Why was the decision made to take the drop-in centre out of the show? I assume that the powers that be felt it had just run it's course. When it was first introduced I felt that the DIC's purpose was to take over the "troubled teens" aspect of the show from where Pippa's foster family left off. Do you know if this was the idea, or am I reading too much into it? Fortunately this aspect of the show still remains, mainly with Irene at the helm.
Asked by JeremaiThe drop-in centre was dropped because everyone felt it'd run it's story course for now. I felt it was fundamentally unreal that a small place like Summer Bay would attract that many disturbed young teenagers. We decided to focus the storytelling back on the family units and the school. I personally think the show is better without it. The location served a good purpose for a while, but I think that purpose had run its course. That's not to say there won't be something like it again in the show, if it keeps going for decades more as we both hope and expect.
