Emily Symons Gives Birth

We’d like to extend our congratulations to Home and Away star Emily Symons and her partner Paul Jackson who have announced the arrival of their first child.

A statement released by Emily’s agent confirmed that Emily had today given birth to a baby boy and that both mother and baby were doing well.

On announcing the pregnancy earlier this year Emily said “It has always been my greatest wish to be a mother. We are overjoyed at this chance to be parents together and to introduce a sibling to Paul’s children – Tommy, Georgia and Grace. Conceived through IVF, this news is a dream come true for us.

Emily Symons as Marilyn

Emily, who has played Marilyn Chambers on and off since 1989, has previously spoken of her struggles to conceive a child over the years, with several failed rounds of IVF.

“I thought it would be impossible but it isn’t. I’d given up really, I thought I had tried every avenue that was available to us. My advice is to not give up if you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole process. It is a waiting game and it is very gruelling on your emotions and your relationship. I am so inspired by what women go through to achieve their dream, to become pregnant and have a family, you’ve got to be prepared to do that stuff to get the baby.”

Revealing the sex of her baby to New Idea magazine in June, Emily admitted that she was still pinching herself when she woke up in the morning. “I cry through all the scans, every time I hear that little heartbeat, but they’re obviously tears of happiness. I just can’t believe it! When you see those arms and legs move for the first time, it’s astonishing. I’m weeping away, you know. I’m going to be one of those mothers who’s always sobbing at the school gate!”

Emily, who turns 46 on 10th August, commenced her six-month maternity leave from Home and Away in June, but is expected to appear on screen until around October-November.
