The summer has begun in Australia, which means 2004's official Ratings Period is over. As such, since Monday many shows (including Home and Away) have been replaced with repeats or summer fillers until the new year.

Summerland, the US import featuring Home and Away's very own Ryan Kwanten, was the second watched show last night. It was beaten only by Seven's The Great Outdoors. Home and Away's replacement, That 70's show, was Australia's fifth most watched programme.

Here's the top five shows from last night, Monday 29th November:

1. The Great Outdoors, Seven, 1.14 (1.60 nationally)
2. Summerland, Ten, 1.12 (1.57 nationally)
3. King of Queens, Nine, 1.02 (1.43 nationally)
4. The 7.30 Report, ABC, 1.01 (1.42 nationally)
5. Law & Order, Ten, 992k (1.39 nationally)

Five edits Home and Away

One of the many reasons fans have praised five's treatment of Home and Away is because, unlike ITV, they never made any cuts to the show. All that changed last week, as five made a number of cuts to Jade and Duncan's 'drug-taking' scenes.

A scene at the Diner featuring Jade and Duncan taking Laughing Gas or 'Bulbs' and then spinning around was cut from Thursday's episode. Only the end of the scene - Alf and Seb walking in on them - was shown.

Another set of similar scenes were cut from Friday's episode. At the Surf Club, Duncan hands Jade a balloon and tells her to "Have a 99". Unbeknown to them, Kim watches on as the two begin to appear very giggly and light-headed.

You can find out exactly what was cut from the scene - including detailed quotes - in the Jade and Duncan thread on our Forum.

Bec wins Dancing with the Stars

Home and Away star Bec Cartwright became the winner of Seven's Dancing with the Stars last night, after beating Pauline Hanson in the nail biting finale of the highly-rated show.

In the show, 8 Australian celebrities teamed up with a professional dancer and each week they danced off under different themed nights. The judges gave each contestants a score each week, which was combined with viewers votes to give the total.

Rebecca, along with dancing partner Michael Miziner, scored a total of 110 points in Tuesday's finale, and received the most amount of votes from home voters.

"At first I was so uncoordinated and very, very shy so as the competition progressed I think, like everybody, my confidence built ... to get out there and really give it a go instead of holding back." Bec told AAP.

The 8 contestants competing in the show were Gabrielle Richens, John Wood, Justin Melvey, James Tomkins, Matt Shirvington, Katrina Warren, Pauline Hanson and of course Bec Cartwright.

Finale Week Spoilers

We've even more Finale Week spoilers for you, this time from TV WEEK:

Baby Joy!

After a tough year, Kirsty and Kane finally receive good news

Finally, something to celebrate! Expect to hear the pitter-patter of tiny feet in Summer Bay in 2005!

After a year that has been marked by tragedy and sorrow, Home & Away’s Kirsty (Christie Hayes) has a truly joyous surprise for her husband, Kane (Sam Atwell), in this week’s heart-stopping season finale – she’s pregnant!

For Kane, who has been waging a brave battle against testicular cancer, this is undoubtedly the best Christmas gift he could possibly receive.

“He’s amazed and very excited,” Sam says. “This is a new beginning. This is a way for Kane and Kirsty to get their lives back on track as a family.”

As fans of the hit weeknight series will recall, Kirsty suffered a tragic miscarriage earlier this year at the same time that she discovered she has to undergo an urgent kidney transplant operation. While she regained her health, she and Kane were naturally devastated by the loss of their much-longed-for baby.

Further heartache for the young married couple followed when Kane was diagnosed with cancer. While he initially kept the news from his wife – as he didn’t want her to be distracted from her final-year exams – she eventually discovered the truth and has been a tower of strength ever since.

Now, in the last week of Home & Away for 2004 (with the finale airing Friday, November 26), Kirsty tells Kane they have been given another chance at parenthood.

What’s more, Kirsty believes their baby was conceived the night before Kane underwent surgery to remove his cancer.

For Kane, this is a sign that he will make a full recovery from his illness. He’s more determined then ever to get better and not allows anything to stand in the way of his family’s happiness.

“It’s been pretty tough for both Kane and Kirsty,” Sam says. “It’s really good for them to have something to share, something which will be such a big part of their lives for the rest of their lives.

“I think Kane will be a great dad,” he adds. “He’s learnt a lot from the mistakes his own father made and he really wants to give being a dad the best shot he can.

“Kane’s grown up a lot recently and he’s learnt a lot of lessons the tough way.”

Nevertheless, it’s clear that Kane still has many hurdles to clear on the road to recovery.

“It’s difficult because Kane is still going through the chemotherapy,” says Sam, adding, “but certainly this gives him and Kirsty a new lease on life. It gives them a reason to have hope and keep going.”

Adds Christie: “There’s a really nice line where Kane says, ‘I feel like I have something to live for even more so than us.’ The cancer is not going to get in the way of that. It’s wonderful for Kane.

“And Kirsty has been amazing in the way she’s dealt with Kane’s illness. When she first found out about the cancer she was a bit of a wreck, but then she realised she wasn’t the victim here. She thinks, ‘Kane needs me right now to be strong and I have to put my selfishness away for his happiness’.”

Christie admits she was pleased when she learnt of this latest development in the storylines.

“It’s lovely,” she says. “It comes at the most perfect time, actually. Kirsty has wanted to be a mum for ages and it’s nice that she’s getting her wish.

“I really like the fact that something beautiful is happening to Kirsty and Kane now,” she says. “It’s the perfect balance.

Sins of the Father

Tasha’s dad asks her to make a decision that could change her life

Tasha has never been more certain about anything. She is determined to meet the man who kept her under surveillance for weeks on end – her father, Ian Osbourne.

While Irene (Lynne McGranger) does everything she can to change Tasha’s mind, the teenager won’t be dissuaded.

As a result, Irene calls Josie (Laurie Foell) to tell her about Tasha’s plan. Josie is mortified and unsuccessfully tries to talk Tasha (Isabel Lucas) out of it.

Later, Josie begs Osbourne (Andrew McFarlane) not to do anything that could harm the close relationship she has with Tasha.

“Josie knows Osbourne very well and she doesn’t like him at all,” Laurie says. “Josie is really concerned that Tasha will have her heart broken and she tries desperately to avoid it. She really wants to protect Tasha.”

For his part, Osbourne says he won’t agree to anything except that he will meet Tasha and Irene. He then calls Irene and tells her that he has a secret plan, which he asks her to go along with. After all, he says, it’s the best thing for his daughter.

When Irene and Tasha arrive at Osbourne’s house, they receive anything but a warm welcome. Tasha is put through a series of rigorous tests to confirm she is indeed Osbourne’s daughter, before being presented with an ultimatum by her father: if she truly wants to get to know him, she must leave Summer Bay and cut all ties with every person she cares about in the seaside town!

Will Tasha leave the Bay forever?

In A Tangle

Can life for Summer Bay single mum Leah possibly get any more complicated? Of course it can!

In this week’s season finale, Leah (Ada Nicodemu) discovers that Peter Baker (Nicholas Bishop), the detective who recently emerged from a coma, refuses to back down on his love for her. This is despite the fact that Leah has tried her utmost to set him straight, explaining to him that she is now in love with his brother, Dan (Tim Campbell).

Finally out of hospital, Peter accepts an offer from Leah to recuperate at her house. Dan isn’t pleased, but Leah thinks Peter will snap out of his delusion after spending time around her and Dan.

But Leah is shocked when Peter, unable to keep denying his feelings, tells her he can’t change the way he feels.

What will Leah do now, and what will she say to Dan that will take him completely by surprise?

TV WEEK Spoilers

Prepare for a bumper week, next week in Australia’s number one soap-opera, Home & Away. From long-lost children, to matters of the heart and a sad farewell, it’s all happening in Summer Bay this week. Not only do we farewell one of the Bay’s favourite residents, but a mystery death is set to rock the Bay! TV WEEK dishes all the dirt.

Why Wait?

Dan doesn’t want to waste any time in making Leah his bride!

They’re madly in love. But – let’s face it – they’ve both only known each other for a very short time.

So imagine Leah’s surprise when Dan (Tim Campbell) tells her he has every intention of asking for her hand in marriage – as soon as his divorce comes through, that is!

Leah (Ada Nicodemou), who is blissfully happy in the relationship, is ecstatic. She says she would love to marry him and the pair declare that they’re engaged – to be engaged.

“The conversation takes place in the Diner when Leah is cleaning up at the end of the day,” Ada says. “Dan’s annoying her by juggling oranges when she’s trying to get home and then he blurts out that he’s got a secret. She just wants to know there and then. All the lights are off, so it’s very sweet.

“Leah knows straightaway that she does want to marry Dan. Whether they’d been together for a day or five years, it wouldn’t have mattered.”

As Ada reminds us, though, Leah found herself doubting Dan when she heard his wife’s accusations that he’d been violent towards her. But when he assured Leah this certainly wasn’t the case, she quickly put her trust in him.

“Leah felt really bad that she didn’t trust him from the start and speak to him about it straightaway,” Ada says. “Ever since then, everything has been smooth sailing. They’re very comfortable together and he’s always treated Leah with love, affection and honesty.”

Ada firmly believes that Dan and Leah truly are soul mates.

“These two are meant to be together,” she says. “This is it!”

Or is it? Stay tuned!

Family Reunion

Alf Stewart is on a mission this week – to discover the identity of the son he never knew existed until recently.

And you simply won’t believe who that person is – none other than the father of school bully, Dalby (Mark Furze), which makes him Alf’s grandson!

But Alf (Ray Meagher) and the rest of Summer Bay are in for an even bigger shock. Dalby arrives on the doorstep of Beth’s (Clarissa House) home, beaten and bloody.

Flynn (Joel McIlroy) rushes over to treat the teenager and it’s then that Dalby makes a horrifying confession – he think he killed his father in self-defence!

Suddenly, Dalby begins to fit uncontrollably and is rushed to hospital. Later, the police arrive to question him.

Also This Week in Home & Away:

  • Jesse (Ben Unwin) is extremely upset and frustrated about his break-up with Josie (Laurie Foell). He has fallen deeply for her, but she seems determined to shut him out of her life. As a result, Jesse decides it's all or nothing for him - if they can't be a couple, then it will be strictly business between them.
  • Kane (Sam Atwell) is convinced his illness is punishment for all the wrong he has committed.
  • Could Hyde (Ivar Kants) be falling for Beth, much to the horror of Beth's children?
  • Alf may have found the lead to his long-lost son.
  • Kim (Chris Hemsworth) takes a stand over a nude centrefold.
  • A mysterious death rocks Summer Bay.
  • Alf gets some shocking news.

  • Alf makes a difficult decision about Dalby.
  • Is Beth sleeping with the enemy?
  • Dan pops an incredible proposal to Leah.
  • Scott (Kip Gamblin) and Dani (Tammin Sursok) are at breaking point.
  • Tasha (Isabel Lucas) tries to play matchmaker.
  • Say goodbye to a Summer Bay favourite.
