Beachside Diner Section?

It would be great to discuss this era with fellow members as it brings back a lot of great memories of the show along with the Early Years of course!

There's nothing stopping you discussing that era now :P The General Discussion forum is for anything from 2001 onwards, and a new Beachside Diner forum would simply be the exact same forum, renamed, with any threads relating to post-2010 and more general stuff moved out and older Aus Discussion threads moved in.

It is obviously something that's crossed my mind, and it is something that staff will have to discuss the pros and cons of to see if it will actually benefit the forum.

Though unlike when we introduced the Bayside Diner forum, I'm not sure whether it will actually encourage any more discussion of the 2001-2010 era than there already is....

I think we're all aware we can discuss it now in the General forum but the question is whether that's still a good idea, since it has been like that the whole time I've been a member and not much has changed in that time. ("If it's not broke don't fix it" v/s "what's wrong with trying something new and fresh?")

When that forum first opened - 2007 - characters and storylines that would have been seen back then as still relatively recent have since become much older and perhaps deserving of their own forum, much like characters and storylines from 2000 would have seemed then.

What I mean is, it appears the Bayside forum was created in 2007, and allowed for discussions up to the year 2000 (and still does) which back then was 7 years ago. At that point, the characters and storylines from 2006 were very recent, but now, in 2014, they are also 7 years ago - the same length of time that 2000 was in 2007.

Personally, I would feel silly going into the general forum and creating a topic about Will and Gypsy or the 2002 ferry disaster alongside people discussing 2014 episodes (even if they are UK pace it's still 2014). I think its off-putting and having a separate forum for people to discuss this era would probably encourage many to do so who otherwise probably wouldn't even think of it.

I know this is off-topic but I've also noticed that on the main website, season finale promos for last year are still listed under latest news. This makes the website look out of date and like it's not updated very often. Is there a way you can replace the "latest news" column with a feed of latest topics from the "News and Articles" section of the forum? It would look a lot more up to date.

The early years weren't airing in 2007 when the Bayside Diner started. It be good to have discussions looking back like my opinions have changed on a lot of the characters and storylines of that time now that I rewatch them on youtube.

Are people discussing 2000-2010? Not much comparing to the discussion between the fans of the early days against the fans of the 2011 and onwards era, in all topics. Sometimes I feel there is a "war" between those fans. And the era of the early days has it's own section. ... I know that 2000-2010 era has been discussed on this forum when the eps aired (at least from 2004), but still...

Sometimes we discuss a bit about this era in some treads, but we don't have a place to discuss these storylines.

I feel that the general attitude is that there are two eras in H&A, the early days and nowadays. Maybe it was like this 15 years ago, but not now. The show is almost 27 years old, and have a lot of history and eras, not only the early days and nowadays. Fans of all eras should be respected. There are a lot of viewers that did not watch of several reason (it wasn't even aired here) the early days, but still have watched H&A for many years. And we are just as devoted fans to the show as fans of the other eras are. I am still watching, but I liked the era of 1998-2005 + 2007-2009 better.

So my conclution is that this era should have it's own section. At least a small one. It doesn't have to mean a lot of work for the moderators. Maybe just a small section where people can discuss topics that was aired between 2000-2010.

I haven't had much time to think about it with doing other things around the site (revamping the old MPC polls at the moment), but it is still being discussed in the staff forum.

The General Discussion is there to cater for all fans wishing to discuss 2001 onwards, and whilst it obviously also caters for current UK/International discussion, that is literally just 1-2 threads. The more 'general' discussion of the show, not focused on one era, seems to be lacking a bit.

With that in mind, one of the main concerns as c120701 points out, is that with that part of the forum not having much traffic as it is, creating another forum to discuss all things 2001-2010 would pretty much leave General Discussion with little active threads.

Ultimately it's down to the members to actually want to discuss anything specifically from that era, and we haven't seen much demand for it at the moment. We're not sure if a new section would actively encourage that any more than the General Discussion forum does now. Yes we did start up the Bayside Diner forum to try and encourage some of the long-term fans to join (and discuss the 90's episodes we were planning on uploading before Seven slapped that down), but it only really took off once the EY eps started showing - out of the 12 pages of threads in there, there's only about 3 pages worth from pre-Nov 2009.

As I say, nothing certain has been decided yet but that's just where we are at the moment
