Characters that could return ?

Who would fit back into the bay today, and most importantly what sort of creative addition could they be to the show! Personally I think Martha needs to return whilst Roo is still on the show!!! Theres so much scope there to explore their relationship....Martha was arguably one of the biggest characters from the mid noughties, and was a pretty dominant character onscreen during her 5 years on the show. I always really enjoyed her relationships with Alf and auntie Morag aswell.

Will Home & Away ever do anymore reunion storylines like Alfs 60th birthday again, I think storylines like these where old faces return together and mix with the current characters are so beautiful!!!

I did hear that Rob Storey carried on living in Summer Bay for years after he last appeared in 1995 so he could still be around but I suppose he is not a very memorable character and was only around in the show for 10 months.

Talking of Roo and her family, we know her mothers maiden name was Baldivis and in 1988 there was a minor character called Mervin Baldivis but it was never confirmed if he was Roo's grandfather but as Baldivis is a rare surname Roo must be related to Merv somehow.

I would easily welcome a return for Flathead even for 1 or 2 episodes, but they did ruin Don and Sally when they returned in 2007 and 2013 respectively.

To be honest, why should the writers and producers try to make actors/charachters return? All people are saying is that characters who has returned have been destroyed...

Sometimes it has happened (Will Smith, Kane) and they deserve some criticism for doing that, but it hasn't happened as often as people say. All the complaints doesn't make the producers/writers want to bring the characters back... I think people has too high expatations when a character returns... It's almost like people want old characters to come and "save" the show from the current state.. And that will not happen.

I like returns, it is nice to see a familiar face, but I don't think they are going to "save" the show.

How about Sam, Sandy and Bella?

Age Bella a couple of years (so that she's still a year or two older than VJ) and she'd fit perfectly in a group with Maddy, Evie and them lot. Maybe she'd make a good match for Oscar. *Shrugs* You'll never know.

Sam would probably be roughly the same age as Brax (or a couple of years younger, but that seems to make no difference with the adults), they both surf, and Sam has had issues before, so he might suit Brax a little bit as someone to talk to. We saw Ryan Clark in New Idea a few weeks ago with Norman Coburn, Nicolle Dickson and Ross Newton, but would he be happy to return as an actual cast member?

I don't know how they'd be a creative addition to the show though.

I would have liked to see Martha and Roo together. A lot too explore there, as you say. I was never a fan of Martha but did accept her by the end of 2008.

But I felt a bit cheated when Roo appeared just months after Martha's departure. I think that Roo should have returned earlier, while Martha was still on the show.

But I don't think Martha should, or will return. Her departure was far too extreme, running away with a people smuggler is a serious thing. I actually think it destroyed her character. There is no way that Martha can return.

And Jodi Gordon had some very troubled last months on the show (private life). I don't think that either she or the producers want her to return. If they want Martha back on the show, I think they will make a recast on the role. And I am not so sure that a recast will work on Martha, Jodi was far too popular.

I actually enjoyed Sally's return last year, it had its flaws but she was the same character she'd been in the past.I think the worst returns are when you bring in a character for a short stint who had a positive exit and have them leave in a negative way and/or with everyone hating them, which is pretty much what happened in Don's stint although that's not the worst by any means, he did leave on good terms with the likes of Alf, Morag and Sally. The flipside of course is when you have a character come back and just stand around in the Diner for a couple of weeks(eg Pippa in 2009 or Grant in 1991), there needs to be a reason for them to be there.

I think you could bring just about anyone back who isn't dead.It might seem odd to have an obscure character with no real connection to any of the current cast come back but if done well it could work. Characters with a connection to Alf or Irene are the best bet if you're going for older characters, Irene's children are long overdue a return although how feasible that is in real world terms I don't know. Jodi Gordon's still acting and I'm not sure if there's that many behind the scenes people left from 2010, so it's probably long enough for any personal tensions to have disappeared. The way she left means they'd have to do a lot of narrative juggling to bring her back but they've had characters return in similar circumstances in the past, Jesse in 2002 for example or Kirsty in 2008.

As we all know, Dannii Minogue has been very vocal about her wish to appear again, I'm not quite sure why they haven't seemed to take her up on it - after all, Emma is still Alf's niece. I guess there is the disadvantage that any quick appearance in a couple of eps (presuming she'd be too busy for a few weeks stint) would just be seen as an attempt for a ratings grabber with no real substance, but it is the sort of thing that happens in real life, people just nipping in if they're in the area.

Irene's children, though particularly her 2 grandchildren which would be more feasible, are something that Lynne McGranger has been hoping for for a long time - when I mentioned that Paul & Mark would be 16 last year, she was quick to point it out to Louise Bowes. (though I don't say that to start up an anti-producer discussion, let's just keep it as who we'd like to see and how it could happen)
