Channel 5 up for sale

According to news articles such as this one http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/richard-desmond-considering-sale-of-channel-5-for-1bn-9033220.html the owners of Channel5 are looking to sell.

Question is, hypothetically if this was to happen, what would it mean to Home and Away, if anything at all? And what would you like to see if there was a new owner? Later showings? Less breaks? Specials in prime time?

One of the rumoured bidders is said to be ITV. The previous broadcaster of the show. Could it move channel completely? And would you like that to happen?

I personally would prefer it to stay as it is now. Which is probably the most likely outcome. Afternoon showing aside, Home and away has been on 5 at 6 now longer than in the first times lot on Itv and it's now where you'd expect to find it. I don't want to be having to go to itv2 and beyond. That would be awful

Remember it's hypothetical, I'm jot saying this would/ could happen

Great, so assuming they're bought again, the rights/ deal go with them

Sindikatas I'm sure channel5 now have access to pre 2000 episodes or at least they showed some a short while ago in one of the summer/ winter breaks

Discovery Communications and BSkyB are poised to announce a £350m deal to acquire Channel 5 from Richard Desmond’s Northern & Shell, Broadcast understands.

Full details are not known, but Discovery is thought to have a 70% share of the deal with BSkyB taking the remaining 30% share, allowing it to add C5’s advertising inventory to its own sales operation.

The deal will mark a significant step for US media giant Discovery, which has been keen to ramp up both its international portfolio and its exposure to free-to-air broadcasting in key markets.

“We have a number of bids as expected, which we will evaluate with our advisors over the next few days,” said a C5 spokesperson. “Certainly no deal has been done.”

The joint Discovery and BSkyB bid has been the favourite since Broadcast revealed that around 20 parties were interested in submitting bids in March.

MTV-owner Viacom and Scandinavian media firm Modern Times Group were the dark horses, and there was also talk that Desmond could pull the sale process or look to float C5 if a deal was not agreed.

Desmond bought C5 from RTL in 2010 for £104m. While he was reportedly hoping to attract bids of closer to £600m, he will be happy to have tripled his money in less than four years.

The acquisition would be the most significant deal in the UK free-to-air market since the launch of C5 in 1997.

The deal, which will still be subject to regulatory sign-off, will likely have a massive impact on the channel’s programming budget, with some sources suggesting that it will be more than doubled.

Discovery declined to comment.

Edit: Scrap that, they've dropped the bid. There's talk of Viacom (owners of MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon etc.) having made an offer too.

Industry reports at the moment suggest that Viacom are going to be sharing shows amongst their owned channels, and that there's plans for the H&A and Neighbours omnibuses to be shown on the music & entertainment channel Viva - it doesn't mention if that's instead of or in addition to the existing omnibus on 5*.
