Episode 20

May 17, 1985

At school on Friday, Brigitte approaches Leo near the maths block.
Brigitte: Leo?
Leo: What do you want, Brigitte?!
Brigitte: Can we please move on? I’m really upset about the whole situation.
Leo: Too bad!
*Brigitte looks upset*
Brigitte: Leo, I'm sorry.
Leo: You know what, Brigitte? Rack off!
*Brigitte walks off in tears*
(Later that morning though, Leo approaches Brigitte as he is on his way to the canteen)
Leo: Hey.
Brigitte: Hello.
Leo: I've been doing some thinking.
Brigitte: And?
Leo: And I think we should move on.
Brigitte: You mean that?
Leo: Of course I do.
Brigitte: So does this mean that we're friends again?
Leo: It sure does. *smiles*
*Brigitte smiles back*
Brigitte: Then, our friendship has been repaired.
*they hug*

During lunch break, Anahera is hanging out with Michael on the oval.
Anahera: I just wish Shirley and Grace would stop arguing.
Michael: Me too. I thought they were quite civil today.
Anahera: Civil?! Michael, they were bickering over who would use the Bunsen burner first during Science.
Michael: So, they had one argument.
Anahera: Make that two. They had one during roll call this morning.
*Michael sighs*
Anahera: I just wish there was something we could do.
Michael: Such as?
Anahera: We could always sit next to one of them in class. That could stop them from lashing out at each other.
Michael: Sounds good. *smiles*
*Suddenly, Anahera and Michael are hugging each other as they are laying on the grass*
Anahera: You don’t mind?
Michael: Of course not. I could use a snuggle.
*Mrs Crocker, the deputy principal, sees them*
Mrs Crocker: Excuse me!
Anahera: Oh, hello Mrs Crocker.
Mrs Crocker: That is inappropriate!
Michael: We were just…
Mrs Crocker: I KNOW what you two were doing and I DON’T want to see it again! *walks off*
Anahera: Awkward much?
Michael: Tell me about it.
*Anahera and Michael laugh*
(That afternoon, Grace is arriving home from school when she hears her parents arguing.)
Beth: YOU NEVER THINK OF ANYONE BUT YOURSELF, JAKE!
Jake: YOU BLOODY BITCH! YOU DON’T TALK TO ME LIKE THAT!
Beth: F*** OFF, JAKE!
*Punching noises can be heard*
Beth: *crying* COWARD!
*Grace runs away. As she does, an oncoming car knocks her over*
Woman: Oh my god!
*The woman gets out of her car and checks on Grace*
Woman: Are you alright, love?
*Grace starts to cry in pain*
Woman: I’ll phone an ambulance.
*The woman calls 000*
(Meanwhile, Anahera and Michael are happening to be walking home when they see an ambulance on the side of the road.)
Anahera: I wonder what’s going on?
Michael: It looks like an accident.
*Anahera and Michael see the paramedics load Grace inside the van*
Anahera: Oh my god.
Michael: Is that Grace?
Anahera: I’m afraid so.
*Anahera and Michael look worried*

NEXT TIME
- Grace is rushed to hospital in a stable condition
- Anahera goes into big sister mode when she finds out Jordan is being bullied

Episode 21

May 17, 1985

That Friday afternoon, Anahera and Michael are clearly shaken by what they have seen.
Anahera: Poor Grace.
Michael: I hope she’s okay.
Anahera: I just wish there is someway to visit her in hospital.
Michael: I think we should head home first, Ana.
Anahera: Oh crap! I forgot about Jordan.
*Anahera and Michael return to the house to find Jordan sitting on the front steps in tears*
Anahera: Little bro, what’s up?
Jordan: These boys picked on me.
Anahera: WHO?!
*Jordan gives out their names*
Anahera: Where are they?!
Jordan: I think they are coming now. *points at the boys who bullied him*
Anahera: I see! *to Michael* Take Jordan inside. This could get real ugly.
Michael: Come on, man. You’ll be okay. *takes Jordan inside*
*Anahera storms over to the group*
Boy 1: What do you want?!
Anahera: PICK ON MY BROTHER, AYE?!
Boy 2: Hey, calm down. We don’t know what you’re talking about?
Boy 3: Oh, are you the sister of that little twerp we bullied?!
*The boys laugh*
Anahera: I don’t see anything funny about picking on a 7 year-old boy!
Boy 4: Is that how old he is? I bet he’s crying home to Mummy!
*The boys continue to laugh*
Anahera: YOU LOT ARE A BUNCH OF PIGS! YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!
Boy 2: And what exactly are you going to do about it?! You’re just a weak girl!
*Anahera slaps this boy across the face*
Anahera: Wanna test me, you little jerks?!
*Boy 1 goes to punch Anahera, but she punches him in the stomach*
Boy 1: *groaning* You winded me!
*Anahera then pushes Boy 3 off his bike before pulling Boy 4’s hair*
Boy 4: OW! OW! OW! LET GO!
Boy 3: LET’S GET OUT OF HERE!
*As the boys run off, Anahera throws stones at them*
Anahera: IF YOU PICK ON MY LITTLE BROTHER AGAIN, YOU’LL BE SORRY!
*Anahera then returns to the house*
Michael: Nice job, Ana.
Anahera: Thanks.
Jordan: You’re my hero, big sis. I love you.
*Anahera hugs Jordan tight*
Anahera: I love you too, little bro.

May 18, 1985

On Saturday morning, Anahera and Michael decide to visit Grace at the Northern Districts Hospital, where she is recovering from her injuries.
Anahera: Excuse me?
Receptionist: Yes?
Anahera: What room is Grace Heke in?
Receptionist: 3rd ward, room 11.
Michael: Thanks.
*Anahera and Michael walk towards the corridor where they can hear loud screaming*
Beth: IT’S YOUR FAULT GRACE GOT HIT BY THAT CAR!
Jake: ARE YOU OFF YOUR TROLLEY, WOMAN?!
Beth: NO, JAKE HEKE! YOU CHASED HER OFF!
*A nurse approaches them*
Nurse: Can you two stop arguing, please? Otherwise, I’ll have to ask you both to leave.
Jake: I’m bloody going! *storms off*
*Beth notices Anahera and Michael standing there*
Beth: I’m sorry you had to witness that.
Anahera: We were on our way to see our friend, Grace.
Beth: My Grace?
Michael: Your last name is Heke, isn’t it?
Beth: Go in.
*Anahera and Michael enter the room and see Grace lying in the hospital bed*
Anahera: Hey girl.
Grace: Hey guys.
Michael: So, what’s happened to you?
Grace: I’ve got fractured ribs and a fractured elbow.
Anahera: You’re lucky that your injuries weren’t more severe. It could’ve been a lot worse.
Grace: You’re right.
Michael: So, when do you get out of hospital?
Grace: I’m being discharged on Wednesday.
Michael: Just remember to take it easy.
Grace: Can I let you both in on something?
Anahera: What’s that, girl?
Grace: I hate my father for what he does to my mother.
Michael: Does he beat her up?
*Grace nods*
Anahera: My mother’s the same. I hate her.
(Speaking of Moana, she arrives at Michael’s house that afternoon.)
Moana: ANAHERA! JORDAN!
*Michael’s mother, Elaine comes out*
Elaine: What do you want?!
Moana: I WANT MY KIDS TO COME HOME WITH ME, THAT’S WHAT!
Elaine: They don’t want to see you!
Moana: You think you’re so bloody smart, don’t you?!
Elaine: Do I have to phone the police and have you removed from MY property?!
*Anahera and Michael arrive back from the hospital at this point*
Anahera: What the hell are you doing back here, Mum?! Jordan and I want NOTHING to do with you!
Moana: COME BACK HOME! YOU AND YOUR BROTHER BELONG TO ME, NOT THIS BITCH STANDING HERE!
*Michael gets in Moana’s face*
Michael: DON’T YOU EVER TALK ABOUT MY MOTHER LIKE THAT AGAIN, YOU DISGRACEFUL PIECE OF S***!
Elaine: Michael, in the house! *points inside*
Anahera: Just leave, Mum!
Moana: I WILL GET YOU BOTH TO RETURN HOME! YOU JUST WAIT! *storms off*
Elaine: Are you okay, Anahera?
Anahera: Yeah. I’m just a bit shaken that’s all.
*Michael and Anahera hug*

May 20, 1985

At school on Monday morning, Anahera is approaching her locker when she sees a short blonde haired girl near her locker.
Anahera: Hi.
*The girl, Jennifer Gibson, looks at her*
Jennifer: Hi.
Anahera: You new here?
Jennifer: Yes, I am. Jennifer Gibson.
Anahera: Anahera Brown. Nice to meet you.
*they shake hands*
Jennifer: I'm in Year 7.
Anahera: So am I. What school did you come from?
Jennifer: Wynara. My family and I recently moved to Yabbie Creek.
Anahera: I see.
Jennifer: I hope we can become friends.
Anahera: We already are. *smiles*
*Jennifer smiles back*
(Meanwhile, Shirley is talking to Brigitte near one of the Maths classrooms.)
Shirley: I hope Grace is okay.
Brigitte: I thought you hated her.
Shirley: I don't. She hates me.
Brigitte: I hope you're not making a mistake.
Shirley: What do you mean, Brigitte?
Brigitte: I mean by you visiting Grace in the hospital.
Shirley: I just want to see if she's okay.
Brigitte: Fair enough.
Shirley: So, how's things with Leo?
Brigitte: We're back to being friends.
Shirley: What a relief.
Brigitte: I know. I thought he'd never talk to me again!
*Shirley laughs lightly. Brigitte soon does as well*

During lunch, Anahera finds Jennifer sitting near the basketball courts eating some crackers.
Anahera: How are you settling in?
Jennifer: Okay, I guess. It sucks that we're not in the same class. *looks sad*
Anahera: Hey, come on. Don't be sad. *puts her arm around Jennifer*
Jennifer: I'm in the worst class ever. The kids in there are troublemakers.
Anahera: What class are you in?
Jennifer: 7 Orange.
Anahera: All the d***heads are in that class!
Jennifer: I know. I just want to change classes.
Anahera: Try and stay for the rest of the week and if you don't like it, try and get transferred to a different class.
Jennifer: Thanks for the advice, Anahera. You are really sweet.
Anahera: Anything for a friend. *smiles*
*Jennifer smiles back*
(That afternoon after school, Shirley arrives at the Northern Districts Hospital to visit Grace.)
Shirley: Grace?
Grace: Oh what do you want, blondie?! *looks angry*
Shirley: I came to visit you. How are you feeling?
*Grace's face softens*
Grace: Getting there. I'm out of here on Wednesday.
Shirley: I'm just glad you weren't killed.
Grace: You know, blondie? I actually thought you were a real bitch. But I now realise that you're not so bad after all.
Shirley: You're not so bad yourself, Grace.
*Grace and Shirley high-five*
Grace: We friends now?
Shirley: Yes.
*Shirley and Grace smile at each other*

NEXT TIME
- Anahera decides to introduce Jennifer to her friends
- Grace returns home from the hospital a day early and refuses to talk to her parents
