Lately there has been quite a lot of discussion related to whether certain topics, mainly related to the Aden/Belle relationship, are being used for what they are intended for. After numerous unofficial warnings about spamming, SPAG and personal attacks, we have now given several members a final warning before we take further action against them (if they cross the line again). These members have been notified, and they have been made aware of why this has been done; on what grounds we've decided to step in; and what will happen if they still fail to follow our rules.

There have been made allegations that people are being punished or favoured because of their personal opinions, and although we feel no need to justify our decisions, as they are made by a whole team consisting of different people with different opinions; we do feel that there's no need to keep quiet to you about the facts.

- There have been many reports about members breaking our rules related to these discussions, and it is based on our perception of each individual case that we have decided to take action and issue warnings.

- The allegations have been made by both fans and those who don't like the Aden/Belle pairing, just like the decisions have been made by a team consisting of staff of equally different opinions.

- The main problem related to these discussions, although we have also noted other offences; is spamming.

- No allegations or complaints have formally been made to us about the number of Aden/Belle fan fics; this is purely a rumour. People are welcome to post as many Aden/Belle fics as they like.

- All members still have a right to express their opinion about Aden/Belle, and all other storylines for that matter. Nobody in the staff thinks any different, and allegations made by members about others' opinions, have like everything else been dealt with individually, and in the cases of the staff finding the allegations unfair, no action has been taken against the reported members. This has gone both ways, as we have had reports we have ruled erroneous from both fans and non-fans.

Like stated earlier, the main problem has been spamming, and in case there is still confusion about this, here's another explanation:

Spamming is when a member repeatedly posts short, useless posts either unrelated to the discussion, or that simply can't be seen as any contribution to an ongoing discussion. This being said, we're not saying that it's not okay to write "I love Aden and Belle!" etc., because that's not spamming. However, if your posts mainly just consists of that same sentence, or just various versions with the same bottom line, it is considered spamming. A short, not very in-depth post every now and then is okay, but many of you have been taking that way too far.

There have also been made allegations that staff are keeping an extra eye on the Aden/Belle fans. This is somewhat correct, but not really the full story. After numerous reports, complaints and disagreements, we have found it necessary to keep an extra eye on certain discussions, which again has lead to us finding it necessary to keep an extra eye on certain members. However, this has nothing to do with the fact that we alledgedly somehow decided to "get" the people discussing Aden/Belle. When the problems seem to be in these threads, we keep an eye on them, regardless of what our personal opinions might be.

Lastly, as much as we hope that this can be over with this, and that we can go back to having good discussions about Aden/Belle, and Home&Away in general, we would like to make it clear that more warnings will be issued unless the situation in these threads improve significanty very soon. We recommend that everyone take a look at our rules. Some of you are still tiptoeing very close to the line, and we will keep monitoring the situation.

If you have any questions or anything else you would like to discuss regarding the situation, please contact a member of staff by PM, rather than carry out this discussion in this thread; and remember that the board rules also applies to PMs, and not just posts.

Thank you.

On behalf of the BttB staff,

Valli (Librarian)

Just a reminder that if you have finished a fic/want a fic moved to the vault, please contact a Librarian at the earliest convenience. Whilst we try our best to monitor progress on all fics between us, some fall through the cracks, and it would be a great help if you remembered to drop an online Librarian a message, or if none are present any of us will be willing enough (I'm sure... I hope... :P) to move it for you.

We are down to three Librarians at the current moment in time. These three are:

Cerise (myself)

Thank you very much for your co-operation,

Cerise

Sneak Peeks/Teasers

Just a reminder on the subject of teasers/sneak peeks that some authors like to give to readers of their Fan Fictions. A sneak peek is essentially given to hint at what is coming up in your story, attract the reader’s attention to your fiction and at the same time make them curious about what may be unfolding next within it. Posting significant chunks of your story tends to give everything away and essentially defeats the purpose of a sneak peek/teaser. Therefore stating a couple of lines in the form of hints, like many of you already do with previews, rather than posting large chunks of the next chapter of your story would be more exciting for the reader. If an author is already partially through writing the next chapter, it would be better for them, and the readers of their fictions, if they were to refrain from posting large sections from it. Rather to wait and simply post the next chapter in its entirety once it is complete.

So to reiterate, teasers/sneak peeks (either a few lines as a preview or a tiny paragraph/ section from the next chapter) given at the end of your last chapter are fine, but new posts only containing sneak peeks/teasers will be deleted. Just wait and post the next chapter in full, once it is finished. If you have any questions or anything else you would like to discuss further regarding this issue, please feel free to contact a Librarian via PM.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Kind regards,

The BttB Staff

It has come to our attention that many authors are starting new fan fictions frequently whilst they still have so many already in progress. We would just like to remind authors that it can be very confusing for readers who are trying to absorb all the characters and plots at once. Even more so when the same authors are starting new fics frequently, and are rarely updating their other fics or abandoning older fics when they haven't even posted that many chapters in them.

It would actually be much better for authors, as well as readers of their fictions, if they were to try and refrain from starting too many new fics at the same time, and rather concentrate on finishing the ones that they have in progress first. This way there would be less chance of fictions being abandoned and the enjoyment of reading one of your fictions would increase greatly.

At present the time frame for moving abandoned fan fictions from the main Fan Fiction forum to the Vault is five months from the date the last chapter was posted. So once a fiction reaches this cut-off point it will be moved to the Vault. If you have any questions or anything else you would like to discuss further regarding this issue, please feel free to contact a Librarian via PM.

Your co-operation on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

The BttB Staff

Additional Fan Fiction Rules

- The maximum length for a Long Fan Fiction is 200 chapters or fictions with parts that equals a total of 200 posts. Fictions beyond 200 chapters/posts in total would need to consider finishing their fiction(s) immediately and to consider writing a sequel instead.

- The maximum number of on-going published fictions, written as part of a group or as a solo effort, in the Fan Fiction forum at any one time is two (2) per forum member. Any new fictions started after 30 March 2015 that don’t abide by these rules will be deleted.

- Current members who have more than 10 vaulted fictions to have restrictions placed upon them when publishing new fictions. They are to be limited to one-shot fictions for a period of time and need to show a concerted effort is being made before restrictions are to be lifted.

- Any more than the specified 10 vaulted fictions will be deleted, according to their placement alphabetically.

- Vaulted fictions to have a time limit of five years before fictions are to be deleted, according to date published.

- Fictions that authors would like to re-post may do so only if their original fiction has been completed, both chapters and comments, and have been moved to the Northern Districts Library. Fictions that don't comply with this rule will be deleted.

Another addition to the Fan Fiction rules

- The deleting of abandoned fictions in the Vault, when requested by an author, will be at the discretion of a Librarian who will take into account the interests of readers and the forum.

Providing Feedback

When providing comments about members fictions, please take the time to post constructive feedback and ensure that they are your own views.

We've been noticing for quite some time that there's a small amount of members who are blatantly copying what others have already said - even going so far as copying and pasting the original text (complete with typos).

Together with only posting generic comments such as "Very good, update soon" repeatedly in several threads, it's quite disrespectful to the author - who may wonder whether the people in question have actually read their fiction or are just trying to boost their post counts.

We don't expect long expert analyses obviously, a couple of lines just saying what you liked/disliked is fine, but please just try and post your honest thoughts on chapters after reading them without being influenced by others.
