40-50

We’re now at the point where everyone in this update must have had at least two people voting for them, maybe more, so they can be guaranteed at least some semblance of popularity.

40. Angel Brooks/Parrish (9 points) ▲4

Played by Melissa George
Recently arrived on 7Two screens, one half of ShaneandAngel managed to achieve iconic status despite having an ever-changing back story and family members who appeared and disappeared as the plot demanded. After being a young mother, young bride and young widow, Angel headed off to live happily ever after with an English millionaire.

40= Bianca Scott (9 points) ▼14

Played by Lisa Gormley
Bianca was always a bit too much of an ice princess for me to warm to, if you excuse the pun, but she was married to two men that I liked so she had that going in her favour. She actually didn’t do too bad a job as principal when she actually bothered to turn up and gave Heath a happy ending, playing mother to two children that weren’t hers.

40= Chloe Richards (9 points) ▼12

Played by Kristy Wright
The late arrival to the mid-90s teen group, Chloe fitted an awful lot into her time on the show: drug addiction, parental abuse, rape, a boyfriend who turned out to be both her rapist and a stalker, teen pregnancy, the love of her life dying of a brain haemorrhage while she married his brother…But she’s probably still best remembered for coming back for the 4000th episode and then dying.

40= Hayley Smith/Lawson (9 points) ▲19

Played by Rebecca Cartwright & Ella Scott Lynch
Hayley was on the show for a whopping seven years, which is the equivalent of Geoff and Annie still being on the show now, so it’s a surprise that she hasn’t really achieved iconic status. She formed a close bond with Irene, had a on/off romance with Noah that ended in a tragically short marriage, and was the focus of the infamous Paternitygate before deciding to leave with Scott.

40= Miles Copeland (9 points) ▼3

Played by Josh Quong Tart
Miles appeared in the 2007 finale as part of a ridiculous-on-paper-but-quite-good-in-execution storyline where he turned out to be Milco, Sally’s imaginary friend from the pilot who was really her twin brother. He quickly slotted in as Sally’s replacement, establishing himself as a caring parental figure to the caravan park crowd. Unfortunately, someone seemed to forget that and turned him into Leah’s boyfriend. He didn’t last long after that.

40= Roman Harris (9 points) ▼2

Played by Conrad Coleby
Roman proves surprisingly more popular than his screen daughter and on a par with his best mate, despite being on the show less than two years. He was a good father figure to Aden and Nicole but somehow ended up being packed off to prison for murder even though the guy he shot was about to kill someone. You get the feeling that these days he’d have been released after a couple of weeks.

46. Edward Dunglass (8 points) ▲8

Played by Stephen James King
Edward lasted less than a year on the show but his Goth looks, refusal to indulge in traditional teen activities and struggle with the likelihood than he had Huntingdon’s Disease meant he stayed in people’s minds. He was given five to twelve years to live fourteen years ago, so we probably won’t be seeing him again.

46= Peta Janossi (8 points) ▲11

Played by Aleetza Wood
Peta married Edward in an unofficial ceremony. Really, does anyone remember anything else about her? Can you recall what exactly her debut storyline was? Any member of her family? Any other storyline? But the poignancy of her committing herself to someone who was going to die young obviously struck home, so it’s perhaps right they’re on the same number of points.

46= Tamara Kingsley (8 points) ►NEW

Played by Kelly Paterniti
For those of us who’d seen her alongside Kate Ritchie as a trainee police officer in another series, the appearance of Kelly Paterniti on the show got a good reaction. A shame then that, after a promising debut, Tamara turned into an annoying shrew stalking Casey into going out with her. After bouncing between him and Kyle a bit, she finally seemed to be coming into her own when she got hit by a car and left.

49. Jett James (7 points) ►NEW

Played by Will McDonald
One point and one place higher than his one-time foster mother, Jett makes his debut in the poll, having only been around for a couple of months last time round. Since then, he’s developed from a mouthy juvenile delinquent into a mature if still mischievous young teenager and become part of a great comedy double act with John.

49= Kirsty Sutherland/Phillips (7 points) ▼24

Played by Christie Hayes
The longest-serving Sutherland, as Kirsty just about made it into 2005 and then came back for a year towards the end of the decade when she achieved the status of caravan park mum at an even younger age than Sally. She dated most of her contemporaries and Miles, had good sisterly relationships with Dani and Jade, and produced a cute little kid named Ollie. And yes, she married her sister’s rapist.
