Most Popular Character 2012: 11-20

Things are getting serious, after this update we’ll have just ten characters left.

Chambers, Marilyn

11. Marilyn Chambers (46 points)

Marilyn has been home and away from the Bay (groan!) more times than you can shake a stick at. Currently back in the bay, doing very little of what made her so popular in the nineties and instead stealing babies and... actually that was probably her last storyline.
Buckton, Ruby

11= Ruby Buckton (46 points)

Ruby joins Marilyn in eleventh place after obsessing her way through the male population of Summer Bay. Still it can’t have been easy with the death of your granddad (who you thought was your dad), your dad and your mum (who had you believed was your sister) in such quick succession.
Franklin, Nicole

13. Nicole Franklin (42 points)

You may notice that the first half of this update feels very late noughties girl heavy and whilst the male of that era, with one exception, are disappearing far over the horizon of the lowly placing and the eternal darkness of not actually scoring at all, the females of that era appear to have been very equally liked.
Patterson, Vincent

13= Vinnie Patterson (42 points)

Arriving as a comedy character, but one who was ultimately aimless in life, Vinnie grew into a character who found a purpose and a family to call his own. Unfortunately, his father scammed him and he went into prison, where he started the process of dying and being brought back to life, before dying again. It was often said Ryan Kwanten was willing to return to see Vinnie and Leah reunited as they left the show, but it appears he wasn’t expecting Ada to stay around for 12 years and counting.
Hunter, Matilda

15. Matilda Hunter (41 points)

J’adore Matilda Hunter. J’ai un chou sur la tete. Matilda arrived speaking French, which was annoying, a bit like her at the time and also impressive, because youngsters these days usually aren’t that good at speaking something pertaining to be English, but sort of isn’t, like. Matured through the years and left a much stronger character than when she had come.
Stewart, Ailsa

16. Ailsa Stewart (36 points)

I think this is by far Ailsa’s best performance and one that can be put down to the repeats again. Though for some reason she did seem to have a very prominent role in the Five stunt of the summer, though the majority of episodes appeared to have her completely mentally unhinged at something.
Simpson, Bobby

16= Bobby Simpson/Marshall (36 points)

You remember in a previous update where I talked about characters that were intrinsically linked on the show scoring very similiarily on the poll. Well, Greg and Sam are in that boat, however Bobby and Ailsa are also there, with a joint sixteenth place, which has seen before have impressive showings after the repeats. Scarily we’re over halfway through Bobby’s stint on the 7Two repeats.
Reed, Shannon

18. Shannon Reed (33 points)

Shannon was, like Celia, a character that came out the box like she was on fire. So much so that I thought she was going to third position degree burns. Unfortunately someone threw a bucket of water over and she slipped slowly, but surely down the rankings. At least she did better than her best friend. Only just though. Isla Fisher is currently married to the terminally unfunny Sacha Baron Cohen. Well we didn’t expect to manage to score an interview with her anyway.
Cook, Selina (Roberts)

19. Selina Cook/Roberts (31 points)

In 1994, when she arrived the age of Selina was 16. In 1997, it was nineteen, n-n-n-nineteen. All those who remember Selina, won’t forget what they’ve seen, of a character who left the show, when they were just nineteen. In one memorable storyline she was stung by a wasp and started hallucinating. She didn’t really know what was going on.
Lawson, Noah

20. Noah Lawson (30 points)

The votes didn’t quite flood in for him and the poll didn’t last for 40 days and 40 nights, but Noah still manages to make it into our list. OK, that’s enough of those religious jokes. Noah manages to do well in these polls and usually always does better than Hayley.

And a special word for Joey Collins, who finished 11th in 2010, but didn’t score a single point this time. Dan was very pleased.
