Scripts - Episode 4401

THE HUNTER/HOLDEN HOUSE

KIT and KIM are there. KIM is on the phone.

KIM

That’s it, you’re doing good. You’re doing good.

Em, yeah, the waters were clear.

THE HOSPITAL

RACHEL is on a mobile.

RACHEL

That’s good and how about the contractions?

THE HUNTER/HOLDEN HOUSE

KIT and KIM are there. KIM is on the phone.

KIM

Still pretty irregular.

KIT screams.

KIM

But they’re getting stronger.

THE HOSPITAL

RACHEL is on the phone.

RACHEL

OK, you better pack your bags and get down here.

THE HUNTER/HOLDEN HOUSE

KIT and KIM are there. KIM is on the phone.

KIM

OK, but you think this is the real thing. This is the baby coming.

RACHEL

Yeah, this is it.

THE HOSPITAL

RACHEL is on the phone.

RACHEL

But, look, it’s not panic stations, OK.

THE HUNTER/HOLDEN HOUSE

KIT and KIM are there. KIM is on the phone.

RACHEL

But, look, it could be ages yet, so you drive safely.

KIM

Alright, I’ll see you soon.

KIM puts the phone down.

KIM

OK, you’re doing good. Just keep breathing. How are you feeling?

KIT

Oh, god, that was a big one.

KIM

That’s good. OK.

KIT

What did Rachel say?

KIM

She said that we should start heading on over.

KIT

OK, this is really happening.

KIM

OK, but she said don’t panic. It still could be ages yet.

KIT

I’ll keep that in mind.

KIM

I’ll grab your things. Now where’s the birth plan.

KIT

It’s in my bag and can you grab my pillows too and let Matilda know.

MATILDA walks out the bedrooms.

MATILDA

Let me know what?

KIM

We’re heading to the hospital.

MATILDA

So it’s coming?

KIT nods.

MATILDA

Are you serious? What do you want me to do?

KIT

Tell Tony.

MATILDA

Where is he?

KIT

I think he went for a surf.

MATILDA

OK. I can’t believe this is happening and how goods mum’s timing. She might actually make it back from the airport in time.

KIM

Right, I think I’ve got everything. Are you ready?

KIT

As I’ll ever be.

KIM

Right.

MATILDA

I’ll see you at the hospital. Good luck.

KIM and KIT walk out the house.

KIM

Oh, sorry.

THE POLICE STATION

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER is there.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

Have you got enough people out there to handle it?

JACK walks in.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

OK, good. Well, give us a hoy if you need anything else.

JACK

What’s going on?

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER and JACK walk into the office.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

There’s been an MVA out at Yabbie Creek Road. A pretty big one from the sounds of it.

JACK

Do you want me to go out there?

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

Jason’s out there. He’s handling it. Sit down Constable. The sergeant brought me up to date on the Martha McKenzie file from the raid last week.

JACK

Eh, yeah, so?

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

Any idea why the drugs seized at The Rocket Club would be missing from the file?

JACK shakes his head.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

TONY stands at the counter. MATILDA runs in.

MATILDA

Tony, I’ve been looking everywhere for you.

TONY

Why? What’s up?

MATILDA

It’s Kit. She’s having the baby, for real this time.

A ROAD

KIT and KIM are in the car.

KIM

Just breathe through it OK. There’s only about twenty more minutes to go.

KIT

Don’t speed alright, like Rachel said, we’ve got plenty of time.

KIM rounds the corner to find the road blocked.

KIM

What? What’s going on here? This is just what we need.

A POLICEMAN tells them to stop.

KIM

What’s going on?

POLICEMAN

There’s no way through. You’ll need detour via Maribu Road.

KIM

Wait. That will add another 30 minutes onto our trip.

POLICEMAN

Sorry mate. There’s not much we can do. It’s going to take hours to get that truck of the road.

KIM

Listen, I’ve got a pregnant woman here. I’ve got to get her to hospital.

POLICEMAN

Listen, do you want me to call over one of the paramedics?

KIT

No, it’s alright. It’s not that desperate.

KIM

Right.

KIM starts reversing.

KIT

What are you doing?

KIM

I know a short cut through the bush to Yabbie Creek.

KIT

What? No, stick to the road.

KIM

No, I don’t want to. Don’t worry. I’ve done this plenty of times. Just keep breathing.

KIT

No.

KIM drives down the dirt track.

THE POLICE STATION

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER and JACK are there.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

And that’s the last you saw of them?

JACK

Yes. The evidence was logged in an evidence bag and it was stapled inside the files.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

And the file?

JACK

It was put straight back into the cabinet.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

So, how was it that Constable Phillips found the file with no drugs in it?

JACK

I don’t know. I’m not the only one with a key. Maybe someone was copying my report. Pursuing enquiries.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

Yeah, or maybe somebody doesn’t want charges pressed against his ex-wife.

JACK

You’re kidding me, right?

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

As far I know, you made it pretty clear last week you thought Martha was innocent.

JACK

Yeah, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to see Cam Reynolds go down. There’s no way I’d do anything to jeopardise that. Come on. You know that.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

You better call him in then and Martha. I’ve got to talk to them both.

JACK

Sure.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

Oh, and Jack, tampering with evidence is a serious offence. A very serious offence.

JACK

Yeah, I know that Senior Constable.

JACK walks out he office.

A DIRT TRACK

KIT and KIM drive along a dirt track.

KIT

I thought you said this was a track, not an obstacle course. Can you slow down please?

KIM

Alright.

KIT whimpers.

KIM

What is it? Are you OK? Is it a migraine?

KIT

Aw, maybe.

KIM

Well don’t worry. It’s not far now.

KIT

Aw, god.

KIM

That’s it. You’re doing good. You’re doing good. You’re doing fine.

KIT

I’m not fine. This road is hell. Can you hurry up please?

KIM

I will, I will, don’t worry.

There’s a bang from the car.

KIT

What was that?

KIM

I don’t know. I think we might have hit a rock or something.

KIT

Well hurry up.

KIM gets out the car.

KIT

Can you see anything?

KIM

I don’t know.

The left rear is punctured.

KIM

Aw, no.

KIT

Kim.

KIM

I think we’ve got a puncture.

KIT

Well, can you fix it?

KIM

I think so. I think I can.

KIT

Well good, because I don’t know how much more of this I think I can take.

KIT screams.

KIM

What’s wrong now? Are you alright? A contraction. Another one. I thought you just had one? Alright, alright, just breathe through it OK. I’ll get us out of here.

THE HUNTER/HOLDEN HOUSE

MATILDA and TONY are there.

MATILDA

Come on. They’ll almost be at the hospital by now.

TONY

I don’t know. She must be out of range.

MATILDA

Just leave her a note. She’s got the hire car. She can meet us there.

TONY

Your mum’s been out of the country for two months. I’m not going to let her come home to an empty house. What kind of a welcome is that?

MATILDA

She’ll understand.

TONY

Look, Tilly, how about I give Sal a call. She takes you and there and when your mum gets here, I’ll take her there myself.

MATILDA

Fine, whatever. Just hurry. I don’t want to miss anything.

TONY

Will you relax. OK, labour can take hours, especially with your first born, trust me.

A DIRT TRACK

KIM takes the spare tyre out the boot. It’s flat too. KIT is in the car.

KIM

OK, I’ve got a better idea. I’m going to call an ambulance and maybe they can send one from up the road, alright.

KIM dials, but he can’t get a signal.

KIM

Oh, come on.

KIT

What’s going on?

KIM

I’ve got no reception.

KIT

We need to get out of here.

KIM

Yeah, well, we’re just going to have to drive like this.

KIT

Aw, Kim.

KIT gets out the car.

KIM

Eh, you alright?

KIT

I need to push.

KIM

What you talking about? It’s too soon. Rachel said we had plenty of time.

KIT

I don’t care what Rachel said. I think I need to push.

KIM

Push. What? Kit, out here. Come on.

KIT

This baby is coming.

KIM

Aw, no.

KIT screams.

THE HUNTER/HOLDEN HOUSE

MATILDA, RIC, SALLY and TONY are there.

MATILDA

I wonder whether I’m going to have a nephew or a niece?

RIC

Or if it has two heads, maybe you’ll get both.

MATILDA

Ric.

SALLY

Are you sure you want to wait for Beth?

TONY

Yeah, yeah, she can’t be too far away. Just give me a call if something changes, eh. Actually, if it’s a longer labour, don’t.

RIC

Oh, yes, we wouldn’t want to interrupt anything.

MATILDA

I don’t care how long it’s been since you’ve seen each other, you’re coming to the hospital as soon as she gets here.

TONY

Somehow I don’t think I’ve got a choice in that, all right. Now, get going the lot of you.

SALLY and MATILDA walk out.

RIC

Hey, do you reckon we’ll be able to watch?

MATILDA pulls RIC away.

MATILDA

It’s not a spectator sport.

TONY shuts the door.

TONY

Thanks again.

A DIRT TRACK

KIM makes something to lie on for KIT. KIT leans up against the car.

KIM

Alright, we’ve done the birthing classes. This is just like the classes. You know, birth is the most natural thing in the world. Woman have been doing it forever.

KIT

Kim.

KIM

Yeah.

KIT

Shut up.

KIM

Sure. Do you want to sit down or something? Is that going to make you feel better?

KIT nods.

KIM

Yep.

KIT

No, no, no, I’m going to be sick.

KIM

Aw, you want to be sick. You go right ahead. It’s OK. Come on. Here you go.

KIT

Aw, no, here’s another one. I think I need to push.

KIM

Just go with it. Go with it. That’s good.

KIT

I can’t.

KIM

Kit, Kit, Kit. Listen to me. Look at me, look at me. Each contraction is one step closer to the end. You can do this, alright.

THE POLICE STATION

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER, JACK, MARTHA and CAM are there.

MARTHA

You’ve dropped the charges. Why?

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

I thought you would have been pleased to avoid a criminal record Miss McKenzie.

MARTHA

I am, believe me. It’s just unusual, that’s all.

CAM

Yeah, very unusual, considering you guys were dead cert on going ahead with it last week. Why the sudden change of heart?

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

There was insufficient evidence.

CAM

You had a whole bag of evidence the other day. What happened to that?

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

We reviewed the circumstances.

CAM

We reviewed the circumstances. What’s that supposed to mean?

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

What it means Mr. Reynolds is that there will be no prosecution, nor will you, or The Rocket Club be facing a fine, so if I were you, I’d just be counting my lucky stars.

CAM

You know what I think it means. Something’s happened to the evidence. You guys have either lost it or someone’s gotten rid of it. What do you reckon Constable Holden, which brings me back to my original theory that this whole things been a set-up right from the start.

JACK

Don’t push it Reynolds.

CAM

And it’s my guess that the cop who planted the stuff in the first place is also the one who got rid of it.

JACK

I said shut up.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

That’s enough from both of you. Like I said Mr Reynolds, be grateful you got off at all. Now if you’d both like to see Constable Holden. He’ll take care of your paperwork.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER walks away. CAM stares at JACK.

THE HOSPITAL

RACHEL and HUGH are there.

RACHEL

They’re bringing some of the casualties here so we need to make sure everyone’s ready to go.

HUGH

What’s the ETA?

RACHEL

Ah, don’t know. They’re still trying to free one of the drivers?

MATILDA, SALLY and RIC walk in.

MATILDA

Hey, sorry we took so long. We had to take a detour along Malibu Road.

SALLY

Yeah, there’s been an accident on Yabbie Creek Road.

HUGH

Yeah, we heard.

MATILDA

So, how’s Kit doing?

RIC

What? We’ve missed it.

RACHEL

No, she’s not here yet.

MATILDA

She has to be. They left way before us.

RACHEL

What?

A DIRT TRACK

KIM and KIT are there.

KIM

Alright, just keep going. Keep going.

KIT cries.

KIT

I can’t. I can’t do it anymore.

KIM

Yes you can. You’re doing great.

KIT

My head. I’m scared.

KIM

That’s OK. That’s OK. I am too, alright, but you’re so close.

KIT

Kim, help me.

KIM

It’s alright. I’m here.

KIT screams.

KIM

That’s it. Come on. It’s OK.

THE HUNTER/HOLDEN HOUSE

TONY is on the phone.

TONY

No, sorry sweetheart. I haven’t heard from them. Have you tried both their phones?

There is a knock at the door.

ALF

Knock, knock.

TONY

Yeah, come in mate.

ALF walks in.

TONY

Yeah, OK, just.

All right.

Well, if you hear from them or if anything changes, just let me no straight away.

Thanks, bye.

TONY puts the phone down. ALF puts a cake on the table.

TONY

Sorry mate.

ALF

No worries. Em, Colleen asked me to drop this over for Beth. I better warn you though, she cooked it herself.

TONY

She’s a good woman, isn’t she?

ALF

Yeah, she has her good moments. So, what’s happening? What’s going on?

TONY

Ah, well, Kim and Kit haven’t arrived at the hospital yet.

ALF

They probably got caught up in that detour.

TONY

What detour?

ALF

There’s been an accident out on Yabbie Creek Road. The coppers aren’t sending everyone round the long way.

TONY

Right, except Sal and Ric and Matty have already turned up and they left before them.

ALF

Yeah, well, if I know Kim he’ll have taken the shortest possible route. There’s an old rovers track through the bush to Yabbie Creek. I’ll check it out.

TONY

All right, that would be great. I’d come with you mate, but I’m expecting Beth. She should be here any second actually.

ALF

No worries. She’s probably held up the other side of the accident, you know. I’ll see and let you know what’s going on.

TONY

Alright, thanks.

THE POLICE STATION

JACK and CAM are at the desk. SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER sits at a computer. MARTHA sits in the background.

CAM

I suppose you think you’re clever. This little stunt of yours has cost me thousands, not to mention the bad publicity.

JACK

Whatever karma’s coming your way, you’ve earned it, fair and square.

CAM

I wouldn’t gloat too hard Constable. Pocketing and planting drugs, that’s got to come with some pretty heavy karma of it’s own.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

Everything alright, Constable Holden?

JACK

Yeah, we’re all done. You’ll get what’s coming to you. Maybe not this time, but eventually.

CAM

Don’t hold your breath. Let’s go baby. Let’s get out of here.

CAM and MARTHA walk out.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

If I ever find out you had anything to do with that evidence going missing it will be your badge.

THE BUSH

KIT sits up against some rocks, giving birth. KIM is there.

KIM

OK, that’s it Kit. That’s it Kit. I can see the head, OK. You’re doing great. Keep pushing, keep pushing. Keep going. Here it comes Kit. Now, one more push, one more push.

KIT screams.

KIM

That’s it, that’s it. Hey.

KIT gives birth to a baby.

KIM

You’ve done it, you’ve done it.

KIM wraps the baby in a blanket.

KIM

Look at that. It’s a little baby boy.

KIT

He’s beautiful.

KIM

Hey, Kit.

KIT starts fitting.

KIM

Are you OK? Kit, come on. Can you hear me? Stay with me. Kit come on.

KIT continues to fit.

KIM

Come on Kit, you’ll be OK. Kit, Kit, come on. Kit.

An engine can be heard in the background.

KIM

Hang on, someone’s coming.

ALF pulls up in his ute.

KIM

Alf, over here.

ALF gets out the ute and runs over. The baby starts crying.

ALF

Strewth.

KIM

She’s had some kind of stroke or fit or something. I don’t know.

ALF

How’s the bub?

KIM

He’s good, he’s good.

ALF

Well let’s get these two sorted, eh.

THE HOSPITAL

MATILDA paces around the hospital corridor. SALLY and RIC sits on the seats nearby.

MATILDA

This is bad.

RACHEL and HUGH stand at the desk.

RACHEL

I think we should call the police.

SALLY stands up.

SALLY

They’re here.

KIM runs in carrying KIT.

RACHEL

I’d like a trolley. Take her to the obstetrician.

ALF walks in carrying the baby.

RACHEL

What happened?

KIM

There was an accident.

KIM puts KIT on a trolley.

KIM

On the road, and then, eh, we had to take a shortcut and the car got stuck and the baby started coming so I had to deliver him and then Kit started fitting.

RACHEL

OK, Kit, can you hear me? Kit.

KIT

The baby.

ALF

He’s right here love.

KIM

Listen, we had to cut the chord as well. We didn’t know what else to do.

RACHEL

Take the baby to a nursery. It needs to be checked by a paediatrician.

HUGH

OK, the bub’s nice and pink, responding well and it looks good.

HUGH hands the baby to a nurse.

RACHEL

OK, room one.

RACHEL and HUGH wheel KIT into a room.

MATILDA

What’s wrong with her? Is she going to be OK?

RACHEL

We’ll let you know as soon as we can?

RACHEL and HUGH wheel KIT into another room.

RACHEL

OK, let’s hook her up to a monitor and take some blood. How’s she doing?

HUGH

Her pulse is strong.

RACHEL

That’s something anyway.

HUGH

Diazepam.

RACHEL

O-deomectrine.

HUGH

OMG’s too.

KIM, SALLY, ALF, RIC and MATILDA wait outside. SALLY is on the phone to TONY.

SALLY

Well, I’m not exactly sure how she’s doing. She’s in with Rachel and Hugh now.

TONY

And the baby. How’s he?

SALLY

He’s being checked out too, but I think he’s OK. Better than mum and dad anyway.

THE HUNTER/HOLDEN HOUSE

TONY is on the phone.

TONY

Aw, OK. Just tell her I’m on my way then Sal. Em, I’ve got no idea where Beth is so I’ll get Irene to come and wait for her.

SALLY

Well I’ll let her know.

TONY

Alright. Thanks, bye.

TONY puts the phone down.

THE HOSPITAL

KIM, SALLY, ALF, RIC and MATILDA are there.

SALLY

Tony’s on his way here. I think he’s going to get Irene to wait for your mum.

ALF

Hey, look who’s here?

A NURSE wheels the baby through.

NURSE

I think someone’s looking for his dad.

KIM

Hey, how is he? Is he OK?

NURSE

Yeah, you and mum did a great job.

KIM

Remember me little fellow. I’m your dad.

MATILDA

I think he remembers.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

JACK stands at the counter. MARTHA and CAM walk out of the kitchen.

CAM

That was quick work. Harper’s already demoted you to coffee boy, has he?

JACK

Yeah, keep it up and I’ll make sure.

CAM

Or you’ll what? Got some other trumped up charge to slap me with?

MARTHA

Cam, come on. That’s enough. I’ll meet you at the car, OK. Please.

CAM

Won’t be long.

CAM walks out.

JACK

I can’t believe you’re still hanging out with him. Can’t you see that he’s dodgy?

MARTHA

Careful who you call dodgy Jack. Cam seems to think you have something to do with the evidence going missing.

JACK

Listen.

MARTHA

Jack, I don’t want to know whether you did it or not. I just want to say, if you did, thank you. I’ll never forget it.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER comes over JACK’S radio.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

Car eighty-four. Come in please. Over.

JACK

Constable Holden, over.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

Jack, I need you back at the station immediately.

THE HOSPITAL

ALF, MATILDA, RIC, SALLY, KIM and the baby are there.

ALF

You could have knocked me down with a feather when I saw the three of them all laid out there on that picnic track and then this one starts up. Nothing wrong with his lungs, that’s for sure.

MATILDA

What do you think is taking them so long?

SALLY

Oh, you can ask them yourself.

RACHEL and HUGH walk through.

KIM

How is she? Is she alright?

MATILDA

Why did she have a fight?

HUGH

Well, we’re not absolutely sure at this stage. We think a combination of the stressful birth and Kit predisposition for migraines is the likely cause. We have to run a few more tests, but at this stage everything seems to have settled down.

RACHEL

The main thing now is she just gets some rest and enjoys the baby.

MATILDA

OK, thank you.

RACHEL

So, this is your little boy, hey?

KIM

Yeah, this is him.

RACHEL

Kim, congratulations. He’s so beautiful.

HUGH

Yeah, congratulations mate.

KIM

Thanks. Is it OK if I take him into to see Kit now?

RACHEL

Yeah, I think that would definitely be OK. She’s in room four.

KIM

Yeah, thanks.

KIM wheels the baby and into the room KIT is lying on the bed.

KIM

Would you like some visitors?

KIM hands KIT the baby.

KIM

Say hello to your mum mate.

KIT

Hey sweetie. You’re so beautiful. He’s perfect.

KIM

He’s your son.

KIT

He’s our son.

THE POLICE STATION

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER sits in the office. JACK walks in.

JACK

You wanted to see me Senior.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

Yes. Come in and shut the door.

JACK shuts the door.

JACK

If this is about the missing drugs, I can assure you.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

It’s not about that.

JACK

Right, so, what’s going on?

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

They need some more back up at that MVA on Yabbie Creek Road.

JACK

OK, sure.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

But I need to talk to you about something else first. You better sit down Jack.

THE HOSPITAL

KIM, KIT, MATILDA, RIC, SALLY, HUGH and RACHEL are in the hospital room.

MATILDA

Just think of the story you’ll have to tell him when he gets older.

RIC

Yeah, born on a blanket down a bush track after his dad’s stupid shortcut.

KIM

It was not a stupid shortcut. It was not my fault we got a puncture.

MATILDA

That’s right. Blame the puncture.

KIM

That’s right. I will blame the puncture.

RIC

Kim, I believe you.

KIT

I don’t know what would have happened if Kim hadn’t have been there, so, as far as I’m concerned his daddy is a hero.

RIC

Aw.

KIM

Thank you.

KIT

Hey, has anyone heard from mum?

MATILDA

Aw, how bad is that? I almost forgot about her. I’ll just call Tony.

MATILDA walks out the room.

A ROAD

TONY is driving along using his headset.

TONY

Yeah, look, I’m sorry sweetheart. Look, I can’t get through to her. Her phone must be out of batteries or something.

TONY comes upon the accident scene.

TONY

Aw, damm. I thought they would have cleared this by now. I’ll have to call you back love.

The police and the fire service work on the car. A body lies covered on a stretcher. TONY gets out his car. JACK and SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER are there.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

I’ll go.

JACK

No, no, no.

JACK walks over to TONY.

TONY

Hi mate, have you heard? Kit’s had a baby. A little boy.

JACK

Dad.

TONY

You are not going to believe what happened.

JACK

Dad, just listen to me, OK.

TONY

Mate, re you alright mate, what’s wrong?

JACK looks around at the accident scene. TONY sees BETH’S arms hanging down from the stretcher.

JACK

Dad, there’s something I need to tell you OK.

TONY

No way.

JACK

Dad.

TONY tries to break past JACK and SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

Tony, take it easy mate.

TONY

Get out of my way.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER

Take it easy.

TONY

Get out of my way.

JACK

Dad.

SENIOR CONSTABLE HARPER and JACK hold TONY back.

TONY

Jack, Jack, Jack.
