Scripts - Episode 3802

THE WHARF

TASHA and ROBBIE walk along the wharf.

ROBBIE

I like coming down here. It helps me think.

TASHA

Are you sure you shouldn’t be at home with mum?

ROBBIE

I left a note telling her to call me if she needs me.

TASHA

You better turn your phone on then.

ROBBIE

Besides the twins are getting on my nerves.

TASHA

I guess you’re all suffering. So, have we got the whole boat to ourselves?

ROBBIE

Tash.

TASHA

That’s not what I meant Rob. Look, I’m really, really sorry for the way I’ve been acting, OK, and for talking to other people and making out this is an issue when it’s not. What happened is not a big deal. What matters is that we’re still together.

ROBBIE’S mobile beeps.

ROBBIE

Thirty-six text messages.

TASHA

All saying the same thing. We used to be together all the time without having anything to do with sex and we still can.

ROBBIE

Yeah, guess we can.

THE BEACH HOUSE

MAX is lying on KIRSTY and KANE’S bed. BETH walks in.

BETH

You can tell me to go if you want. Your home is your home, whatever happens.

MAX

It was only my home because Uncle Rhys was there.

BETH

I understand you feeling like that, but you’re wrong. I mean, you know the history of that house. It’s a special place. A lot of kids have been there that didn’t have a mum or dad and they’ve made it their home. Like Sally, you know when Tom and Pippa took her in. You’re part of that tradition.

MAX

You didn’t take me in, he did.

BETH

I guess he took us all in.

MAX

He’s gone. It’s your place now.

BETH

And I love you like one of my own. We’re family Max and it would make me so happy if you’d say you’d come back.

MAX

I’m sorry Auntie Beth, but I can’t. Not now. I don’t know what I’m going to do, but things have changed.

BETH

Max.

MAX

Thank you for coming over.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

HENRY and MATILDA are sitting on the couch. BETH walks in.

HENRY

Where’s Max?

BETH

Ah, Max has decided to stay at Irene’s for a couple of days.

HENRY

He should be here with us. We’re his family.

BETH

Well, he’s a bit confused as to who’s who and what’s what so, I think he needs a bit of space, as does Robbie.

HENRY

Yeah, people can’t get out of this place fast enough.

MATILDA

Henry, we promised.

BETH

Promised what?

BETH sits down between HENRY and MATILDA.

BETH

You promised what.

MATILDA

Not to bother you.

HENRY

Which isn’t fair, because we don’t know why Rhys left you? Well, not really.

BETH

Well things haven’t been right for a long time and em, we tried to work out our problems, but we couldn’t.

MATILDA

You mean Shelley.

HENRY

We’re not stupid kids mum. You can tell us.

BETH

I asked Rhys to leave because I believed that I didn’t deserve to be treated like a second wife again.

MATILDA

Like you were with dad?

BETH

I hung in there and I tried to protect you from that and in the end it was a waste of time and I wasn’t prepared to do that again.

MATILDA

So you told him to leave. Wasn’t that hard?

BETH

I just hope it was the right.

MATILDA

Oh, mum.

BETH

I’m going to be all right as long as I’ve got all of you. I am. It might just take a while, but we’re going to be OK.

BETH and MATILDA start crying.

THE BEACH HOUSE

KANE, KIRSTY and IRENE are at the table eating dinner.

KANE

So, Kirst said you got in touch with Tasha’s cousin thingo.

KIRSTY

Sorry, he asked.

IRENE

Yeah, well that’s all you need to know and a damm sight more than Tasha needs to know.

KANE

Ah, but it’s.

MAX walks out KANE and KIRSTY’S room.

IRENE

Please love. As I said to Kirsty, not another word about it, OK.

KIRSTY

Hey, are you hungry?

MAX

No. Thank you for letting me hang out. I’ll be off now.

IRENE

Where are you going?

MAX

For a walk.

IRENE

Love, it will be dark soon.

MAX

I need to think.

KIRSTY

Well, do you want Kane to come with you?

MAX

I’ll be OK. I’m a man now. I don’t need anyone to look after me.

KIRSTY

Max.

MAX

I’ll be fine, honestly.

MAX walks out.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

COLLEEN and ALF are cleaning table.

COLLEEN

It’s a tragedy. When Rhys and Beth first got together I thought it was a match made in heaven. If I’d known I could have done something.

ALF

You can still do something Colleen. The dishes. In the kitchen. Quick smart.

DANI and SCOTT are walking along.

DANI

It is a shame about the timing. You know, I’m sure your mum would want you to be here for the next few weeks, but strong. You know, she’ll cope without you.

SCOTT

She won’t have to. I’ll be here.

SCOTT and DANI sit down at a table.

DANI

Scott, I know you want to be here, but the tickets aren’t changeable.

SCOTT

She’s my mother, OK. I can’t even believe you’d be talking about Paris at a time like this.

DANI

I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you.

MAX walks past them.

SCOTT

Hey Max.

DANI

Hey.

He walks up to ALF.

ALF

G’day mate.

MAX

Is Colleen here?

ALF

Yeah, she’s in the kitchen.

COLLEEN runs out.

COLLEEN

Aw, Maximus.

MAX

Colleen.

COLLEEN

Aw, pet.

MAX

I’ve got a favour to ask. I’ve got nowhere to go.

COLLEEN

Aw Maximus. You know you don’t have to ask.

COLLEEN and MAX cuddle.

THE WHARF

ROBBIE and TASHA lie on the Blaxland.

TASHA

This is beautiful.

ROBBIE

Yeah, just being together.

TASHA

I was beginning to think it wouldn’t happen again.

ROBBIE

I’m sorry. It’s just these last couple of days I’ve been a bit lost, you know.

TASHA

Me too. I mean, I really like you’re funny.

ROBBIE

I guess I can be sometimes.

TASHA

You’re an individual.

ROBBIE

At little bit like yourself.

TASHA

This is so beautiful.

ROBBIE

You’ve said that.

TASHA

Did I?

ROBBIE

Yeah. I love you.

TASHA and ROBBIE kiss. Later, TASHA and ROBBIE kiss. They then get off the Blaxland.

TASHA

I’m so happy.

ROBBIE

Me too. I just wish there was a happy ending at home.

TASHA

You know that I’m here for you no matter what.

ROBBIE

Yeah, I know. Come on. I’ll walk you home.

THE BEACH HOUSE

ROBBIE and TASHA walk in. They kiss.

TASHA

I don’t want you to go yet.

ROBBIE

I don’t want to go.

ROBBIE and TASHA kiss. IRENE walks downstairs. She turns the light on. ROBBIE and TASHA stop kissing.

ROBBIE

Just seeing Tasha home.

TASHA

Yeah, I just wanted to make sure he was OK.

IRENE

He seems to be managing fine.

ROBBIE

I am now. She’s amazing. See you later.

ROBBIE walks away. TASHA walks in.

TASHA

He’s amazing too.

TASHA walks up the stairs.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

BETH is lying on the couch. ROBBIE walks n.

ROBBIE

Hey mum.

BETH

Oh, hi. You’re back.

ROBBIE

Yeah, sorry. I just needed time to get my head around all this.

BETH

Yeah, I know the feeling.

ROBBIE

Twins upstairs?

BETH

Yeah.

ROBBIE

You should go to. Have an early night.

BETH

I don’t feel like sleeping.

ROBBIE

If there’s anything you want or anything I can do for you, all you have to do is ask.

BETH

Seem a lot happier than before. Take it it has something to do with Tasha.

ROBBIE

Ah, yeah. It’s been a weird few days, but everything’s OK now.

BETH

Good.

ROBBIE

I just wish I could make you feel OK.

BETH

You do, every day in every way.

THE PALACE

SCOTT and DANI are there. DANI is on the phone.

DANI

Yeah, but this is compassionate grounds.

Yes, OK. I understand. Thank you.

DANI hangs up.

DANI

The only way we can change our tickets is if there’s a death in the immediate family.

SCOTT

Yeah, well it almost qualifies.

DANI

Signed death certificates or we can miraculously come up with a few more grand and change our status.

SCOTT

Well, we knew there was no room to move when we booked. That’s why they were so cheap.

DANI

Five grand is not cheap. Look, I just don’t think your mum would want you throwing away money like that.

SCOTT

I definitely think we shouldn’t bring this up with her.

DANI

Well, you talk to her. Look, I know how you feel, but this is just an unfortunate situation.

SCOTT

I promised mum I’d stay and I told Rob if they were any problems I’d be here.

DANI

How much good are you going to be? You know, if we go you can write, you can e-mail. You can still be there for them.

SCOTT

Yeah, like your dad said he’d be there for them. Well, my family has a completely definition of what that means. I’m sorry, I didn’t want to turn this into Hunters versus Sutherlands.

DANI

Pretty counterproductive.

SCOTT

Look, I’m just as disappointed about Paris as you are, but I can’t go. There’s not a way in the world. You go. Don’t stay because of me.

DANI

No, I’m not going anywhere.

THE BEACH HOUSE

KIRSTY walks out of her room, past IRENE and into the kitchen where KANE is.

KIRSTY

Where’s Tash?

KANE

Asleep I guess.

KIRSTY

Aw, we should wake her. She’ll be late. Tasha.

IRENE

Wait. Wait, wait, wait, wait love. Guys, I need to talk to you about something. I could be wrong, but chances are I’m not seen as I was up all night worrying.

KANE

Yeah, well we’re listening.

IRENE

Guys, do I either of you have any idea whether or not Tash and Robbie, you know, have taken things to the next level? Has she said anything to you?

KIRSTY and KANE look at each other.

IRENE

Aw my god. Aw my god. She has.

KIRSTY

Well, we kind of figured they were heading in that direction, yeah.

IRENE

Aw, love. Why didn’t you say something to me?

KANE

I didn’t think it was our place to get involved.

KIRSTY

Irene, don’t worry. I told her to be sure and about, you know, safe sex and all of that.

KANE

It’s nothing unusual.

IRENE

Aw, Kane. You have no idea how unusual it is. Talk about bad timing.

KIRSTY

Why? What is it? Come on Irene. You’ve been weird ever since you got back from the city. Was it Angie’s cousin?

IRENE

Will you keep your voice down for gods sake. Let’s just say I’ve got more than one reason now to worry about Tasha’s innocence.

KANE

She’s a good kid.

IRENE

Yeah, I know she’s a good kid and she’s got her head screwed on right in a kind of a skewish way. It’s just.

KIRSTY

It’s just what?

IRENE

It’s a really big step in a young girls life. Starting early can lead to all sorts of strife and someone has to make damm sure Tasha knows that.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

BETH is sitting out on the veranda. COLLEEN walks out.

COLLEEN

Morning dear. Young Matilda said you were out here, but if you’d rather be left alone.

BETH

Ah, no. It’s OK.

COLLEEN

I wanted to say how sorry I am and I know what you’re going through. When Norman left me I felt it was the end of the world, but I guess you realised that the way I carried on.

BETH

Well, everyone handles things differently.

COLLEEN

Yeah, that’s what I mean. I know you’re not one for wearing your heart on your sleeve, but it is OK to lean on your friends once in a while.

BETH

Thanks Colleen.

COLLEEN

Now, on that subject. Young Maximus came to see me last night.

BETH

I thought he was with Irene.

COLLEEN

Well, em.

BETH

It’s all right. I mean, it’s good that he’s with you. If you don’t mind.

COLLEEN

Oh, no, of course not. You’ll know that I’ll look after him.

BETH

I do. Aw, thanks Colleen. Good that he’s got a friend like you.

MATILDA walks in. HENRY is in the kitchen.

MATILDA

What are you doing?

HENRY

Making mum breakfast.

MATILDA

She’s upset. She won’t feel like eating.

BETH and COLLEEN walk in.

BETH

Yes, I do. Thanks for dropping by.

COLLEEN

Too roo love, it’s all going to be fine.

COLLEEN walks out. ROBBIE walks in.

ROBBIE

Bathrooms free. Aw, great, I’m starving.

HENRY

What’s with the good mood?

MATILDA

Is it something to do with what happened in the human relations room yesterday?

ROBBIE

Aw, children, children, children. I could try to explain it to you, but you wouldn’t understand.

MATILDA

Do you think they did it?

HENRY

Of course. Get a whiff of the aftershave.

ROBBIE picks up the phone.

ROBBIE

Hey, it’s me. I missed you last night.

THE BEACH HOUSE

TASHA is on the phone.

TASHA

I missed you more.

Yeah, of course everything was OK.

KANE, KIRSTY and IRENE all watch her.

TASHA

Everything’s completely wonderful.

You know Rob, I love you so much. It just feels so right.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

ROBBIE is on the phone.

ROBBIE

So no regrets?

That’s exactly who I feel too and different.

THE BEACH HOUSE

TASHA is on the phone.

TASHA

And special. Do you think anyone else has ever felt like this?

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

ROBBIE is on the phone.

ROBBIE

Aw, no way. Not possible. So I’ll see you at school.

THE BEACH HOUSE

TASHA is on the phone.

TASHA

See you.

TASHA hangs up and walk up the stairs. IRENE goes to chase after her. KANE stops.

KANE

Hey, hey, hey, hey. Let’s just think this through.

IRENE

What is to think Kane? You just heard her. It’s not like she’s keeping it a secret.

KANE

Yeah, my point exactly. Reverse your own psychology. If you tell her she’s too young for it, what’s that going to do?

IRENE

Well, I’m a little bit late for starters.

KANE

OK, OK. She’s already done it. Chances are she’s going to want to do it again and isn’t it better that she feels open and honest about it?

IRENE

What do you suggest I do then? Give Robbie the keys to the damm house.

KANE

I suggest that you weigh up the odds. If you come down too hard on her, she’s still going to do it, but she’ll do it behind your back. Anywhere, anytime and what sort of strife do you think that’s going to get her into, but if you encourage her to talk about it, then she’s probably going to listen to you about being responsible.

IRENE

Iron fist in a velvet glove you reckon.

KANE

Yeah, something like that.

KANE and KIRSTY walk into their bedroom.

IRENE

How did he get so smart?

Later, TASHA walks down the stairs. IRENE is there.

IRENE

Made your lunch darl.

TASHA

Aw, cool. Thank you. I slept right through my alarm.

IRENE

Little bit exhausted, were you?

TASHA

Yeah, I didn’t want to wake up. I was having the best dreams.

IRENE

Dreams about Robbie?

TASHA

Yeah, they were about him actually.

IRENE

And, em, what happened yesterday?

TASHA

How did you know?

IRENE

Aw, you know, I just pick up a few things around the place and I overheard you on the phone before.

TASHA

Really. Aw, that’s OK, I don’t mind you knowing. I mean, Robbie might be a little bit embarrassed though.

IRENE

Well, love, you shouldn’t be. You know, nothing to be ashamed of.

TASHA

I agree, and you know once we got past it, it was like we’d suddenly grown up.

IRENE

Aw god.

TASHA

Like I was worried what he thought and he was worried what I thought.

IRENE

Well I suppose it’s only natural, isn’t it?

TASHA

Yeah.

KANE walks out his room.

TASHA

But when we were on the deck of the boat.

IRENE

The boat.

TASHA

Yeah. I have never felt so connected to anyone ever. Like, I didn’t want the feeling to end. I think it’s really important that we take time out everyday.

IRENE

Love.

TASHA

To make sure that we really understand each other.

IRENE

You know, I think that’s great.

TASHA

Because there’s no shame in waiting till we have sex.

IRENE

Waiting.

TASHA

Yeah, just because it’s expected of to kids to be all in to it, you know, doesn’t mean that we have to be and that’s what we realised on the boat. That, you know, there is no rush. You know, it will happen when it happens and when we stopped worrying about it, it was like everything felt all good again.

IRENE

So, you didn’t.

TASHA

Didn’t what?

IRENE laughs.

TASHA

What’s so funny?

IRENE

Aw, nothing sweetheart. Nothing. Give me a kiss. I love you.

IRENE cuddles TASHA.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

ALF serves two customers.

ALF

There you go guys. Two muffins. Enjoy them, eh.

COLLEEN runs along a path.

COLLEEN

Aw, you would never believe.

ALF

Woah, woah, woah. Calm down woman. What’s going on.

COLLEEN

Aw. You’ll never believe who I just saw.

THE BEACH HOUSE

KANE and KIRSTY walk out there bedroom. IRENE is standing at the table.

IRENE

God save. Talk about getting your wires crossed.

KANE

Yeah, I didn’t think anyone waited these days.

KIRSTY

Of course they do, it’s romantic.

KIRSTY and KANE walk out.

IRENE

I’m just glad everything can get back to normal again.

KIRSTY

See ya.

KANE

See ya.

IRENE

See ya.

There is a knock on the door. TASHA runs out the bathroom.

TASHA

It will be Robbie.

TASHA opens the door. JOSIE is there.

JOSIE

Hello Tasha.  My names Josie.

IRENE looks at JOSIE.
