Scripts - Episode 3735

A ROAD

DANI and NOAH are on NOAH’S motorbike. NOAH pulls over and they take their helmets off.

NOAH

Dan, Dan, if you’re nervous I can slow down.

DANI

No, I’m just em.

NOAH

You stressed about Felix.

DANI

I am.

NOAH

Well, if I tell you everything’s going to be fine will it make any difference. You lean into the corners, not pull me backwards.

DANI

Yep, lean into the corners. Sorry, I wasn’t thinking.

NOAH

Don’t think about. You know, stay engaged, stay cool and just do it.

DANI

Are we still talking about motorbikes?

NOAH

You know, I handle any chick situation the same way. Good chance you get through in one piece.

DANI

OK, got it. Go.

They put their helmets back on and ride off.

THE BEACH HOUSE

KANE and KIRSTY are on the couch.

KANE

Come on, you’ve got to eat.

KIRSTY

I don’t want any Kane. I don’t feel very well.

KANE

Maybe you should go to bed.

KIRSTY

But em, Flynn might call and say I have to go to hospital for the tests.

KANE

Well, I look after it. OK, come on, I’ll take you.

KANE and KIRSTY walk into their room. IRENE walks out the toilet and into the kitchen. LEAH walks in.

IRENE

Aw. Leah, sweetheart. What is it? You look like you’ve been dragged through a hedge.

LEAH

Aw, I’ve just been in the car. I just didn’t know what else. I dropped VJ off at Colleen’s. I just didn’t want him to see my like this.

IRENE

Hey, hey, hey, hey, come on. Calm down. You tell me exactly what is going on.

LEAH

Jesse, he’s left me. It’s not his fault, it’s fine. He thinks that Flynn and I.

IRENE

But you set him straight, right.

LEAH

Right, but he just wouldn’t believe me.

IRENE

Aw, sweetheart. This surrogacy business isn’t easy. Feelings get confused.

LEAH

I love Jesse. It’s just, carrying Flynn’s baby.

IRENE

No, love, no. Sal and Flynn’s baby. Sal is the kids mum and Flynn is her husband.

LEAH

My friends.

IRENE

Hey, come on. You knew exactly the deal. You love Jesse, right? Both of you just have to keep telling yourself every single chance you get.

THE PALACE

JESSE walks downstairs. He looks around the living room. NOAH and DANI walk in.

JESSE

G’day.

DANI

Hey. Jess, welcome.

JESSE

I hope you don’t mind that I let myself in because Hayley gave me a key.

NOAH

No, no, no problem. Madame here, made me take her to library. Best make yourself at home.

DANI

Smells like you’re having us dinner.

JESSE

Em, yeah. The least I could do. Spag bog.

DANI

Thanks Jess. Really nice of you.

NOAH

I’ll just grab us some beers for entrée.

JESSE

Yeah, thanks mate. That would be good. So, where’s Scott?

DANI

Aw, he’s gone to pick up some clients for a couple of days fishing.

JESSE

Well it’s nice work if you can get it.

DANI

Yeah. He said the other night, he hates being away . Sorry.

JESSE

Em, Dan, it’s fine.

DANI

Jess, I’m really sorry you and Leah are having trouble.

JESSE

Well, that makes two of us.

DANI

It must feel really weird being here?

JESSE

Yeah, bit like my whole worlds been turned upside down. Yeah.

DANI

If you want to talk about it.

JESSE

Probably not, but thank you.

THE BEACH

JESSE and NOAH are stretching. KIM runs up to them.

KIM

Sorry I’m late.

JESSE

It’s all right mate. We just got here too.

KIM

I know why I’m here this early. What are you doing?

NOAH

Well, I woke up and heard this one jumping around so I thought I might just check out what you guys were doing because there’s no surf.

JESSE

So, are you ready to get fit mate?

NOAH

Yeah, mate. Right on.

JESSE

Right, we’ll start with the warm-up. The surf club and back. Soft sand. Shoes off good. We’ll do some stretching, we’ll do some push ups then we’ll hit the pool and we’ll see what you need to work on.

KIM

Good.

JESSE

Come on mate. What are you waiting on? Go.

KIM and JESSE start running.

JESSE

Coming with us?

NOAH

Nah.

JESSE sees LEAH walking along. He stops running. He then continues running.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

MORAG is behind the counter. KIM walks in.

KIM

Are you all right?

MORAG

Oh, I don’t suppose you know how to work one of these infernal machines do you? Leah’s is currently incapacitated so I have to help.

KIM

I was actually wondering if you’ve got a second. I need to ask you something.

MORAG

Oh.

ALF walks over.

ALF

Two black whites. One a skinny late and a weak long black Morag.

MORAG

Why can’t these people drink coffee learn to drink coffee the way god intended?

ALF

I don’t know. I didn’t ask them. Have you got those two cappuccinos for table seven. Well, don’t waste too much time talking, eh.

ALF walks away.

KIM

See, I do know how to work a coffee machine if you want a hand.

MORAG

Oh, thank you. I would appreciate it.

KIM

Did it as a summer job once. Got to get yourself organised.

MORAG

Right, and you wanted to ask me something.

KIM

Yeah, I was just wondering if you’d had a chance to do anything about my son?

MORAG

Well, I’ve set a letter of demand for a DNA test.

KIM

DNA test. Why?

MORAG

Well, to determine paternity. It’s normal procedure and it might scare her off.

KIM

Well, hang on. That’s the last thing I want you to do.

MORAG

You told me that that young woman wanted to prove that you were the father. I mean.

KIM

I’m not trying to deny he’s my baby. I’m trying to be part of his life.

MORAG

Oh, I’m sorry.

KIM

You just stuffed that up.

MORAG

Well, I, em, I’m, you should be more articulate Kim.

KIM

Did he put you up to this?

MORAG

I beg your pardon.

KIM

My dad. Did he pay you money or something to screw everything up?

MORAG

I’m sorry. You’re going to have to explain that. I don’t understand.

KIM

This letter. When did you sent it?

MORAG

Yesterday. I’m sorry. I thought that was what you wanted me to do.

KIM

You never even let me finish. You know, I thought you understood.

MORAG

Em, well I thought I was acting in the best interests of my client.

KIM

The next time why don’t you start by listening to your client, because you’ve just ruined any chance of seeing my son.

KIM walks out.

THE BEACH HOUSE

KIRSTY is lying on the couch. KANE is watching over her. IRENE walks through with the washing.

KANE

She’s done it again.

IRENE

God save us. She only woke up half an hour ago, didn’t she?

KANE

Yeah, I know, she got up, got a cup of tea and passed out.

IRENE

Don’t worry. Flynn’s onto it. I’m sure it’s nothing.

KANE

Well I hope so. If anything happened to her. You know, it’s not just the sleeping. She said she’s dizzy all the time as well.

IRENE

Now you leave the worrying to me mate. You just concentrate on taking good care of your missus.

KANE

I just can’t help it. She’s just so special. Her and the baby, you know, they need me. I don’t think I’ve been needed before.

IRENE

Aw, love, it’s huge responsibility, I know. Don’t let it swamp you, all right.

KANE

Yeah, I just want to do the right thing.

IRENE

Yeah, of course you do. I want you to try and gently wake her up, take her down the beach. You know the fresh air will do her a lot of good.

KIM walks in.

KIM

How can someone with so many degrees be such an idiot?

IRENE

What idiot are we talking about this week?

KIM

Duncan’s stupid aunt.

IRENE

Ah, yes. Can’t say that I’m fan meself. What’s she done?

KIM

She sent off a demand for a paternity test. Brooke’s going to think I’m the jerk who wants it.

IRENE

Well love. You get on the blower and you tell her it’s all a mistake.

KANE

I can’t wake her up Irene?

IRENE

Kirsty. Kirsty love, wake up.

KANE

What if she’s unconscious.

IRENE

Oi, Kirsty. Aw, my god. Give me the phone Kim.

KANE

Kirst. Kirsty, wake up.

KIRSTY is lying on her bed. IRENE, FLYNN and KANE are there.

KANE

What’s happening?

FLYNN

Kirsty, who are you feeling now?

KIRSTY

Just a bit tired.

KANE

Does she need to go to hospital?

FLYNN

Well, her tiredness is excessive. I think we should admit you for observation Kirsty.

KIRSTY

No Flynn. Please can I stay here. Kane can look after me.

KANE

Babe, we’ve got to do what Kane thinks is best?

FLYNN

Have you been eating properly?

KIRSTY

Yeah.

KANE

Mainly junk, when I’m out.

FLYNN

OK, we’ll talk about that later. I had had you booked in for tests midweek, but as I said I think we need to see you sooner.

KIRSTY

Flynn. The baby, is it all right?

FLYNN

Well, there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be, but we’ll just look after mum first, eh? All right, I’ll call you later.

IRENE

OK, thanks darl.

FLYNN, KANE and IRENE walk out the room.

KANE

Em, Flynn. Just do what ever you’ve got to do. Don’t worry about money. I’ll find it some ways, even if we’ve got to go to the city.

FLYNN

We’re looking after it right here mate. Stop worrying I’ll call you this afternoon.

KANE

If anything happens to her.

FLYNN

Listen. I know you’re freaked out. I’d feel freaked out if it was my child, but, trust me, if there’s a problem, we’ll find it, we’ll fix it.

FLYNN walks out.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

ALF and MORAG walk out the kitchen. COLLEEN is there.

COLLEEN

Aw, I didn’t realise you were leaving so soon Morag.

MORAG

Time waits for no man Colleen or woman for that matter. I have things to address in the city.

ALF

You know, he’ll be all right. I just want to give him a fair go. I know I haven’t made much of fist of it so far.

MORAG

It will do you good to spend some quality time together, just the two of you.

ALF

I don’t know if he’d agree with you there.

MORAG

Alf, he’s a growing teenager, not some feral beast. He’s not that difficult, you know.

ALF

Aw, might not be for you, but I tell you what, I’ll be on the blower after a few pointers from you.

MORAG

You, asking me for advice? Oh, air traffic control might not know what to do with all those flying pigs.

COLLEEN walks into the kitchen. LEAH is there.

COLLEEN

I’m afraid table six are complaining about their sandwich.

LEAH

It’s bread, it is filling. It is a sandwich.

COLLEEN

Yeah, but, eh, the gentlemen’s a vegetarian and you put salami in his salad.

LEAH

OK, I’ll make him another one.

COLLEEN

Pet, if there’s anything I can do.

LEAH

It’s fine, everything is under control.

COLLEEN

No, I mean with your personal problems.

LEAH

Colleen, it is anything important.

COLLEEN

You and Jesse, you need to be together like me and Norman.

LEAH

I hope so.

COLLEEN

Aw, oh dear, I’m sorry. I’ve made you cry.

LEAH starts crying.

LEAH

No, it’s OK. I just can’t seem to stop.

COLLEEN

Aw, you let it all out love. Better out than in, eh.

THE PALACE

IRENE and JESSE are there.

IRENE

Hayls said I might find you in here.

JESSE

So I guess she fills you in with all the goss.

IRENE

Jess, no one is gossiping. Everyone just wants you two back together again where you belong. You know Leah came to see me last night. She looked very upset.

JESSE

Right.

IRENE

Isn’t there someway you two can work out your problems? Get back together.

JESSE

I just needed some time to myself, all right.

IRENE

Well, as long as Leah understands what’s going on.

JESSE

Do you think I understand what’s going on? Don’t make me out to be the baddie here Irene.

IRENE

Why would I do that?

JESSE

Well, it’s the fact that I’ve left Leah, pregnant and with VJ.

IRENE

Well, I’m assuming it’s because you’ve got a good dammed reason.

JESSE

Yes I do.

IRENE

Aw love, I know you must be hurting just as much as she is.

JESSE

Can we talk about something else please? Because I’ve had it. I don’t want to talk about it anymore and I don’t want to think about it anymore, all right. I really did love Leah. She is all I’ve ever dreamed of. You know that.

IRENE

Well, then, what the hell are you doing here? Love, she needs you.

JESSE

She needs me, but does she love me?

THE HOSPITAL

LEAH and FLYNN are there.

LEAH

Hi. Where’s Sal?

FLYNN

Ah, staff meeting. Couldn’t get out of it.

LEAH

All right.

FLYNN

Where’s Jess?

LEAH

New job at the supermarket for some extra cash.

FLYNN

Listen, Sal told me about moving out. I’m really sorry.

LEAH

Yeah. I’d probably prefer not to talk about it if that’s all right. You being nice to me. I don’t think I can handle it.

FLYNN

OK.

They walk up to JOAN.

JOAN

Oh, hi guys. Where are you other halves?

FLYNN

Ah, just the two of us tonight.

THE PALACE

JESSE is eating a pizza. HAYLEY walks in.

JESSE

Hi.

HAYLEY

Yuck. That’s at least two days old.

JESSE

Tastes like it too.

HAYLEY

OK. So I’ve got one question for you. why?

JESSE

I couldn’t be bothered fixing anything.

HAYLEY

OK, well sit down and I’ll make us a proper meal.

JESSE

No it’s fine babe. I’ll pick something up on the way to work.

HAYLEY

Jess, you can’t keep doing this.

JESSE

Doing what?

HAYLEY

Working two jobs on top of everything else you’re going through. Do you need the money that badly?

JESSE

Yep.

HAYLEY

You’ll be exhausted all the time.

JESSE

Well, it might stop me thinking about stuff Hayls.

HAYLEY

Jess.

JESSE

Poor me, eh.

HAYLEY

Yeah, poor you. Would a hug help at all?

JESSE

It could do.

JESSE and HAYLEY hug.

THE BEACH HOUSE

IRENE and KIRSTY are there.

KIRSTY

Irene, I’m OK.

IRENE

I know you’re not sweetie, but you know what Flynn said. You’ve got to take it easy.

KIRSTY

I’m so tired.

IRENE

All right. Well you have a little kip OK. I’ll leave you to it.

KIRSTY

No, it’s OK. Kane will freak out if he sees me sleeping.

IRENE

You ate them biccies?

KIRSTY

I only had like three.

IRENE

Oh really, that’s very clever of you seeing as I only put four on the plate and there’s still four there.

KIRSTY

I had some chocolate before. I’m just full.

IRENE

All right. How about I make you a nice herbal tea, eh? That’s really good for your tum.

KIRSTY

Em.

IRENE

Love, Flynn says you’ve got to have something.

KIRSTY

I know, but.

IRENE

But what?

KIRSTY

I don’t think this pregnancy is going to work out or anything. I don’t think we’re going to make it.

IRENE

Sweetheart, that’s why it’s so important that you take proper care of yourself.

KIRSTY

Maybe it doesn’t make the difference whether do everything right or not.

IRENE

What is all this about?

KIRSTY

I don’t deserve to have this baby Irene.

IRENE

I have never heard such piffle in all my life.

KIRSTY

It’s true. I lied about being pregnant and now I’m being punished and that’s probably why I’m so sick.

IRENE

Now you listen to me Mrs Phillips and you listen good. You are crook because you’re crook, there’s no other reason. Sweetheart, it’s just nerves. Believe me. There isn’t a mum around who hasn’t been worried that there’s something wrong with their baby. It’s only natural. OK, now Flynn is going to make sure that everything is OK and if there’s a problem fix it and you and junior will be just fine. End of story. Now you eat up.

THE HOSPITAL

FLYNN and LEAH are at the birthing class.

LEAH

How am I doing?

FLYNN

Great, how am I doing?

LEAH

Spectacular, but I never quite understood why the father needed help to breathe.

FLYNN

Well I think these classes are more for our benefit so we feel useful.

JOAN walks up to them.

JOAN

Anti-natal classes are for mothers and fathers. You know that doctor.

FLYNN

Yeah, well I’m just saying that these classes are more for Sally and I.

JOAN

Sally and Jess. Lovely couple, there not here tonight.

FLYNN

No, Joan, Sally’s my partner.

JILLY

Joan, get with the programme. Leah’s having the baby for them remember.

JOAN

Sally and Jess, yeah, I’m remember.

LEAH

No, Sally and Flynn. This is Flynn.

JOAN

Oh, I’m sorry. Oh, I do so many of these classes and you two look so perfect together.

JILLY

Well, we all say that, don’t we David, but Leah’s with Jesse, right?

LEAH

Yeah, that’s right.

THE BEACH HOUSE

KANE and IRENE are there.

KANE

Is she sleeping again?

IRENE

Yeah love. Well she dozed off on the sofa. I just told her to hop into bed.

KANE

Should I wake her? See if she’s all right.

IRENE

No, but you should stop worrying and try get some sleep yourself.

KANE

Maybe I’ll sit up and watch her for a bit. See if she’s OK.

IRENE

Kane, love, don’t you think she would rather have her husband in bed next to her. Love, she’s pretty scared you know. These tests coming up. You’re going to have to be real solid for her.

KANE

Yeah, I will.

IRENE

I supposed you must be pretty scared, not that you’ve any reason to be.

KANE

I don’t know, sometimes I want to know what’s going on and sometimes I don’t. I just can’t handle it.

IRENE

Love, you’ve just got to stay focused. I’m sure it will be fine.

KANE

Yeah, I hope so. See you in the morning.

IRENE

See you.

KIM puts the phone down.

IRENE

Still no luck?

KIM

No, she’s either taken the phone off the hook or gone away, which means she’s already got the letter.

IRENE

Love, one way or another, we will let you know it wasn’t your idea.

KIM

It’s weird seeing Kirsty go through this. I actually wish I could have been there for Brooke.

IRENE

Love, you wouldn’t want to go through what Kane’s going through right now for all the tea in China.

KIM

It’s not normal her sleeping this much.

IRENE

Apparently it is the first three months, but not like this. Something is up.

KIM

You’re worried, aren’t you?

IRENE

Between you, me and the gate post I’m as worried as hell.

THE HOSPITAL

JOAN, FLYNN and LEAH are there.

JOAN

OK, guys, this birth is going to be as much a roller coaster ride for you as for her. For example, you might start to hear some very colourful language. Just remember, she will love you again, just as soon as its over. Hold her if she’ll let you and just keep reassuring her. Flynn, let Leah lie back against you. Lean back. How does that feel?

FLYNN

Fine.

JOAN

Leah?

LEAH

Yeah, fine.

JOAN

OK, guys. You can help by massaging her lower back or her shoulders. Helping her in the shower. If she wants some space give it to her. Basically this is about whatever she needs to get through this. Yeah.

THE PALACE

There is a knock on the door. JESSE answers it.

JESSE

Yeah all right, all right, coming.

There is a POLICEWOMAN there. NOAH walks into the kitchen.

POLICEWOMAN

I’m sorry to bother you so late. Is this the residence of Scott Hunter?

DANI and HAYLEY walk into the kitchen.

DANI

What’s wrong? Has something happened to him?

POLICEWOMAN

I’m sorry, but there’s been an accident at sea.

DANI

Not the boat.

POLICEWOMAN

It appears to have sunk. The coastguard has recovered the body of Mr. Hunter. I’m so sorry. There was nothing they could do.

DANI begins to cry.
