Scripts - Episode 3595

THE BEACH HOUSE

NICK is on the phone. IRENE and HAYLEY are in the kitchen.

NICK

See you in a few days. OK, see you.

NICK hangs up.

NICK

Guess whose flying fist class for Los Angeles.

IRENE

Aw.

NICK and HAYLEY cuddle.

NICK

We start shooting a week and I haven’t even got the script.

IRENE

Oh my god. It’s all happening so fast.

NICK

I’m finally going to get out of this place. I mean, Summer Bay. Not, this place.

IRENE

Aw, sweetheart, you’re allowed to celebrate.

HAYLEY

But you’re not allowed to forget us.

NICK

Never. Maybe I’ll suck at the whole acting thing.

IRENE

Oi, I don’t want to see your ugly mug back here Shortie until you’ve given it a good old Smith bash, do you hear me?

There is a knock at the door.

HAYLEY

Oh, that’ll be the best moment now.

IRENE

Go on. You don’t want to keep him waiting, do you?

NICK opens the door. WILL walks in.

WILL

Hey, I heard a big movie star lives here,

NICK

Will.

WILL

How are you doing mate?

WILL and NICK cuddle.

HAYLEY

Hi.

WILL

How are you going?

HAYLEY cuddles them. WILL and NICK are in NICK’S bedroom.

WILL

Do you remember how dad was going to get you those guitar lessons when you did that contest with the girls?

NICK

Yeah, and I was the loudest most out of tune.

WILL

That’s why you’re an actor. You’re always showing off.

NICK

I was probably just trying to impress you. How’s Gypsy and Lily?

WILL

Yeah, good. How’s you and Jade? Finally work things out.

NICK

No, it’s over.

WILL

Sorry mate.

NICK

Yeah, it sucks, but we just couldn’t get it together.

WILL

Are you nervous little brother?

NICK

Sorry.

WILL

You’ve just packed your maths book.

NICK

Oh, I won’t be needing that.

WILL

Look, it’s going to be pretty full-on over there, right. Try and not let it get to you.

NICK

You remember how boats were your thing. Like, you’d do it for free if you had to.

WILL

If I didn’t have a family to feed, but, yeah, I know what you mean.

NICK

That’s how I feel about acting. If I have to eat baked beans everyday just to survive, I don’t care. I want to do it. I’ve finally found something I’m good at. I’m sorry. I must sound like a complete idiot.

WILL

We know what we want to do. We’re lucky.

NICK

Why am I completely freaked?

WILL

You’ll be all right. You’ve got the Smith spirit inside you. We can survive anything, all right.

HAYLEY and IRENE are in the kitchen.

HAYLEY

I keep thinking of what would have happened if Nick had of got a charge.

IRENE

Well, Paris’ statement seemed to do the trick, darl.

HAYLEY

Have you heard from him?

IRENE

Yeah. He rang earlier. He sounded OK. Of course, the kids are miserable, but you, what would you expect?

IRENE burns her hand on some water.

IRENE

Ahl, oh, shivens.

HAYLEY

Oh, Irene. Put it under some cold water.

IRENE

Look, I have asked Nick time and time again to turn down this blasted hot water system, but does he listen.

HAYLEY

Irene.

IRENE

I’m sorry love.

The phone rings.

IRENE

I really, really want to be happy for him, you know.

HAYLEY answers the phone.

HAYLEY

Hello.

Oh, Sally hi.

What? When did this happen?

Oh.

IRENE

Oh, please, not Tasha.

SUMMER BAY HIGH

MAX and FLYNN are there.

MAX

I tried to keep up with her.

FLYNN

I know you did mate.

MAX

I’m supposed to be looking after her.

FLYNN

Listen, it’s not your fault, OK. Tasha’s got a lot of problems that don’t have anything to do with you.

MAX

Yeah, but, you know, I’ve got to talk to you. I’ve got to make her understand that everyone’s OK.

FLYNN

Well, you did what you could. Sometimes it’s all you can do. She’s probably just hiding somewhere. We’ll find her.

MAX

Yeah, but if she’s hiding from us, we’ll never find her.

FLYNN

Come on mate. We’ve got to keep trying.

THE SURF CLUB

JESSE and FLYNN stand at a table.

FLYNN

If it was anyone else we wouldn’t be so worried at this stage.

JESSE

Yeah, well you should be mate. What can I do?

FLYNN

Can you check the scrub behind the school?

KANE walks up to FLYNN and JESSE.

KANE

I want to help.

FLYNN

Ah, it’s OK mate. We’ve probably got enough people at the moment.

KANE

Well if she’s lost you’re going to need all the help you can get.

FLYNN

Yeah, eh, OK. Thank you.

KANE walks away.

A PARK

ALF and MAX walk along.

MAX

Tasha.

MAX sees a girl sitting on a bench.

MAX

There she is.

MAX runs over to the girl.

MAX

Tasha. Oh, sorry. I thought you were someone else.

NOAH walks up to ALF.

ALF

You haven’t seen young Tasha this salvo have you?

NOAH

Problems.

ALF

She went missing a couple of hours ago.

MAX

It wasn’t her.

NOAH

I better get changed and give you a hand.

NOAH walks away.

MAX

What happens if we don’t find her? Maybe she went swimming.

ALF

It will be all right mate. We’ll have a look on the rocks. She’s probably hiding in one of those tubby holes.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

DANI, SCOTT and BETH are in the kitchen.

DANI

That is fantastic. Dad must be very, very happy.

BETH

Aw, he has a perpetual grin on his face, but it’s important that you’re all happy about it.

SCOTT

Yeah, well it’s about time.

BETH

I haven’t told the others yet.

SCOTT

You wait till my brother gets home from boarding school.

DANI

Is he like you?

SCOTT

Well, let’s just say he’s one off.

KIRSTY and JADE walk in.

JADE

I just don’t think it’s fair on Nick. I mean, it is his party.

KIRSTY

Coming Jade. End of story. OK.

BETH walks up to JADE and KIRSTY

BETH

Em, where are Kit and Max? I wanted to talk to you all together.

KIRSTY

They’re out looking for Tasha. She’s run away.

JADE

Yeah, half the towns out looking for her.

DANI

What happened?

JADE

Well, Kit scared her or something and she took off, but I wasn’t there when it happened so I don’t know what the rest of it is.

BETH

I guess I’ll have to get Kit to explain.

SCOTT

Well, I’m going to go and help with the search then.

KIRSTY

Em, meet at the surf club.

SCOTT

See you later.

SCOTT walks away.

DANI

You had something to say.

BETH

It’s nothing that can’t wait.

THE SURF CLUB

MAX is asleep at a table. FLYNN is there.

FLYNN

OK, we’ve only enough torches for every second person so partner up.

FLYNN walks up to SCOTT.

SCOTT

Is there anything else I can do?

FLYNN

Em, can you take Max home mate? He’s exhausted.

MAX

I’m not going anywhere until we find Tasha.

SCOTT

We’ll find her mate, but you’re not going to be much help falling asleep.

MAX

I’m fine. You know, I told Miss Fletcher that I was going to look after her.

SCOTT

All right. Well, looks like I need a partner. Do you want to be my torch man?

MAX

Yeah, I’ll be the best torch man there is.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

ALF and IRENE are in the storeroom.

IRENE

Oh, Alf, I shouldn’t have sent her to school. I should have kept her at home and now it’s dark.

ALF

Yeah, it might be dark Irene, but she’s no ordinary kid. From what I’ve seen, she really knows how to look after herself.

IRENE and ALF walk out to the counter. COLLEEN is there.

IRENE

Yeah, but love, she’ll be scared stiff.

COLLEEN

Still no sign of her. Oh, not to worry. I mean, after all she’s more like a wild little animal than anything else.

IRENE

Colleen, put a sock in it, will you? I’m not in the mood.

COLLEEN

I’m sorry. Only meant she might feel safer.

ALF

Maybe we could all do with a coffee, if you wouldn’t mind Colleen?

IRENE

Have you got people out there searching out near Mal Gully?

ALF

Yeah, Rhys, Kit and Kane.

IRENE

Kane. What the hell is he doing out there?

ALF

Irene, we need every person we can get.

IRENE

Love, Tasha is terrified of him.

THE BUSH

TASHA makes a bed out of branches. KANE watches her.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

SCOTT and MAX walk in.

MAX

We should still be out there looking for her.

SCOTT

Yeah, well it’s too dark to see anything, mate, even with torches.

BETH, JADE, DANI and KIRSTY are there.

SCOTT

I had to bring him home. He was asleep on his feet.

BETH

You might want a warm bath. It will make you feel better.

MAX

I’ll feel better when we find Tasha.

BETH

Is Kit still out there?

SCOTT

I guess so.

BETH

I’m worried she started this whole situation.

MAX

It wasn’t Kit’s fault. If Mrs Morris didn’t shout at Kit, Tasha wouldn’t have gone crazy. You know, Kit was really nice to her. She showed her how to open her locker.

BETH

Ah, dinner my man and then straight to bed.

MAX

I’m really glad you’re moving in Beth.

JADE

You’re moving in.

BETH

I wanted it to be a family announcement, but it’s leaked out.

KIRSTY

Aw, congratulations Beth. Welcome to the family.

THE BUSH

TASHA lies on the ground. KANE walks up to her.

KANE

It’s OK.

TASHA wrestles KANE to the ground.

KANE

It’s OK, OK.

TASHA and KANE wrestle on the ground.

KANE

It’s all right, OK. Tasha, I’m not going to hurt you. Don’t worry; I’m not going to you.

TASHA hears voices in her head.

KANE

Don’t worry. I’m not going to hurt you.

TASHA

At the station, the other one, you stopped him.

KANE

OK, you remember.

TASHA

You helped.

KANE

Look, there’s a lot of people out looking for you, OK.

TASHA

Why?

KANE

Well, because there worried about you.

TASHA

I hurt the teacher. Aren’t they mad?

KANE

No, they know that was a mistake. They know you didn’t mean to hurt anyone.

TASHA

Its better I just stay here.

KANE

What about Irene, Sally? There going to miss you.

TASHA

I’ve hurt too many people. I belong here.

KANE

Look, I know what it’s like, trying to fit in. You’re always thinking you’re doing something wrong, but, there’s so many people out there that care for you.

TASHA

Go away. Go away.

KANE

Look, I’m just going to sit here for a minute and I’m going to talk. It’s not like we’re in any hurt is it?

SEB and NICK are walking along.

SEB

There they are.

TASHA runs off and KANE catchers her.

KANE

Hey, hey, don’t run. Tasha. I’ve found Tasha. You’ll scare her. It’s OK. There not going to hurt you.

SEB

Let her go.

KANE

What are you talking about? I’m trying to help her.

NICK

Tasha, are you all right? Did he do anything to hurt you?

KANE

What are you talking about?

TASHA

I want to go home. I want Reneiay.

NICK

Come on Tasha. We’ll take you home.

TASHA

No, I want to go with Kane.

THE BEACH HOUSE

TASHA, IRENE, KANE, SEB, NICK, JESSE and HAYLEY are there.

IRENE

Love, you can’t go running off every time something goes wrong.

TASHA

I’m sorry Reneiay, but the teacher was mean to Kit.

IRENE

Darling, that’s Kit’s problem, OK. It’s not yours. Oh, love; I was worried sick about you.

TASHA

Kane said I should come back because you would miss me.

IRENE

Well, Kane was right darling. We’re very lucky that he was out there looking for you. We should thank him.

KANE

No worries Mrs Roberts.

TASHA

You should come to the party.

HAYLEY

Em, yeah Nick’s having a farewell party tomorrow night if you’d like to come.

NICK

But if you’re busy we’ll understand.

IRENE

Kane, you’re more than welcome.

WILL walks in.

WILL

Hey, I heard they’ve found Tasha. What the hell is he doing here?

IRENE

Will, Kane found Tasha.

WILLI think you should get going mate.

JESSE

Come on mate. I’ll walk you home.

JESSE and KANE walk out.

THE SURF CLUB

KANE and KIRSTY are kissing in the gym.

KIRSTY

So, tonight.

KANE

What about it?

KIRSTY

The party.

KANE

Oh, no way.

KIRSTY

Why? You’ve been invited.

KANE

Only because I found Tasha.

KIRSTY

So.

KANE

So, in a couple of weeks they’ll forget all about it and go back to treating me like dirt.

KIRSTY

But, come on. Things get better. They just take time.

KANE

Babe, I can’t even go to your house. I know you want this perfect world where I go to family barbecues and talk footy with your dad, but it’s just not going to happen. People are not going to accept us in this town. It’s just you and me, nothing new.

KIRSTY

Of course, I’ve got to go.

KANE

Babe, are you OK?

KIRST

Yeah, yeah. See you later.

KIRSTY walks out the gym and stands against a will. NICK, WILL and HAYLEY are walking along outside.

WILL

What’s that?

NICK

What?

WILL

That. You still can’t shave. I can remember the first time you tried to shave. Looked like you head under the lawn mower.

HAYLEY

Yeah, and I was just putting some of your stuff into storage last night and I found your old doll.

NICK

That wasn’t a doll. It was a master of the universe.

WILL

Yeah, a right. A big tough guy like you wouldn’t have a doll, would he mate?

HAYLEY

Yeah, Nick, that’s kind of different because kids that grow up without a teddy becomes emotionally stunted.

NICK

I didn’t have a teddy.

WILL

He’s angry.

WILL

I’m going to get a drink. Are you guys right?

HAYLEY

Yeah, we’re right.

WILL walks into the diner. HAYLEY and NICK walk away. DANI is in the surf club. WILL walks up to her.

WILL

Dani.

DANI

Will, what are you doing here?

WILL and DANI cuddle.

WILL

I thought I’d say goodbye to my big shot brother.

DANI

How are you?

WILL

Great, now that I’ve seen you.

DANI

How’s Gypsy and Lily?

WILL

Yeah, they’re good.

DANI

We should catch up at the party tonight.

WILL

They’re not here. Hey, I saw Kane last night? Is everything OK?

DANI

Long story.

WILL

So, what about Lily? Is she talking yet?

DANI

Yeah, her first proper word was more.

WILL

She takes after her father.

THE BEACH HOUSE

IRENE is putting make-up on TASHA.

IRENE

You know, one time at Uni I got so lost I ended up in an engineering lecture. Aw, god, I felt like such dill. Felt like such bored dill.

TASHA

Did it get easier?

IRENE

Sweetheart, of course it did. Everyting gets easier after a while. Do you know what the most important thing is? That you always give it your best shot and it’s OK to make mistakes. There you go. You look a treat. All set for your first big party.

TASHA

I really do want to go school. I will try.

IRENE

We know you will love.

HAYLEY and JESSE are standing in the kitchen. WILL walks out of NICK’S bedroom.

WILL

And now, ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to present to you Australia’s biggest star as seen on performances as getting lost in London and giving us all a heart attack and also the controversial work on The Dorm.

NICK sticks his head out his room.

NICK

Hurry up.

WILL

And already he’s chucking his tantrums. Ladies and gentlemen, will you please put your hands together for the next Heath Ledger, Nick Smith.

NICK walks out his room.

IRENE

Yeah, modest as always. Aw, sweetheart, have I told you how very proud I am of you?

NICK

Yeah, once or twice.

IRENE

Oh boy. You are going to break some hearts over there.

THE SURF CLUB

NICK makes handprints. HAYLEY is taking a photograph. WILL is also there.

HAYLEY

Smile. Hey.

WILL

Hey.

FLYNN, IRENE and BETH are talking.

FLYNN

I’ve given him the number for the girl I went to Uni with so she said she would keep an eye on him.

IRENE

Aw, thanks a lot love. I really appreciate it. Look, I know I shouldn’t worry, but.

FLYNN

You’ve done your job with him Irene and you’ve done it well.

BETH

I was the same when Scott and Robbie left home for boarding school. It took days to sink in. I kept wondering why I had so little washing.

IRENE

Yes, I must admit, I never thought I’d see the day when I’d miss Nick’s stiny socks.

WILL and SCOTT are talking.

WILL

Shoosh, she’s coming.

DANI

Don’t let me interrupt.

WILL

No, I was just talking about that time you and me worked on the boat.

SCOTT

No, we were just talking football.

DANI

Yeah, funny.

WILL

Em, do you guys like a drink?

DANI

Yeah, fine.

SCOTT

Fine.

COLLEEN walks up to NICK.

COLLEEN

Sorry I can’t stay, but I have another engagement.

NICK

A hot date, Mrs Smart?

COLLEEN

I’m dining with my beau, Mr. Norman Shadbolt.

NICK

Oh.

COLLEEN

This is for you. I rubbed it the day I met Norman.

NICK

Oh. It looks a bit mangled.

COLLEEN

Yeah, well not a lot was left after Josh West left my place. Now, remember, if it doesn’t work out in

Hollywood you’re always welcome back in Summer Bay.

NICK

Thanks Colleen.

COLLEEN and NICK cuddle. COLLEEN then walks away. JADE walks up to NICK.

NICK

You look fantastic.

JADE

Thank you. It’s a great party.

NICK

Didn’t know I had this many friends.

JADE

Em, I got you something. It isn’t much, but.

NICK

Colleen got me a rabbit’s foot. It’s got to be much better than that.

NICK opens the box. There is picture of JADE and NICK at the school dance in Episode 3419.

JADE

So you don’t forget us.

NICK

That’s never going to happen.

SEB walks up to them.

SEB

Sorry, I can come back.

JADE

No, it’s all right.

NICK

We should have a toast to the four of us.

JADE

Yeah, I’ll go and get Kirsty.

JADE walks away.

SEB

I’m going to miss you mate.

NICK

Yeah, I know. There’s phone and e-mail.
SEB

You have to promise me one thing.

NICK

Depends on what it is.

SEB

No. Don’t go all Hollywood on me. All right, there’s no partying with Brad and Jen, because I’m going to get jealous. Yeah, laugh it off now, but I’m serious. You remember what we’ve got.

KIRSTY and JADE walk across.

SEB

I thought you were bringing your other half.

KIRSTY

We do have different lives Seb.

JADE

Can you guys be quiet and pretend to be friends for a minute, please?

NICK

A toast. Best friends forever.

SEB

Friends forever.

They have a toast. MAX and TASHA walk together.

MAX

Are you OK now Tash?

TASHA

I want to find Kane. He was good to me.

MAX

You shouldn’t have run away. I could have helped you.

TASHA

I’ll look after myself.

MAX

You know what, we’re friends. Well I want to be if you want.

TASHA

OK, maybe.

MAX

Do you want to dance? I can show you the moonwalk.

MAX moonwalks. TASHA laughs. NOAH, WILL and SEB are talking.

WILL

So, em, I heard something went down between you and Kane Phillips.

SEB

He’s a creep.

NOAH

Hey man, I’m looking forward to this film I keep hearing about.

HAYLEY

Excuse me everyone. Can I please have your attention? I’ve just put together something special for Nick so if you could please all gather round.

NICK

Round of applause for Hayley, for putting on the best farewell ever and paying you all to come.

WILL

It wasn’t enough, mate.

SEB puts a video on. It says “Lives of the Rich and famous. Nicholas Kenneth Ignatious Victor Smith.”.

NICK

Thanks Seb. Wahl.

There is a still of HAYLEY, WILL, GYPSY, LILY and NICK at WILL and GYPSY’S wedding. There is then a still of HAYLEY, IRENE, KEN and NICK. There is then a still of NICK and KEN.

IRENE

Aw, there’s your dad.

There is then a still of NICK kissing JADE.

MAX

Woah, lovers.

There is then a clip of KEN playing with a young HAYLEY, NICK and WILL. There is then a sign saying good luck Nick.

ALF

Speech, come on mate. Speech.

NICK

Thanks for everything. You all know what I think of you all.

IRENE and NICK cuddle.

IRENE

I love you Shortie.

The crowd claps.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

KANE is on the phone.

KANE

Have you talked to your friends about it?

Sorry, can you just hang on for one second. I’ve just got to check something out. Sorry.

KANE walks out the office. SCOTT PHILLIPS is there.

SCOTT

G’day bro.

KANE

Scott. What are you doing here?

SCOTT

You know that money I gave you, I want it back.
