Scripts - Episode 3544

THE BEACH HOUSE

IRENE and HAYLEY are in the kitchen.

HAYLEY

When did you last see him?

IRENE

Yesterday afternoon. Him and Nick had a barmy. I didn’t think it was serious at the time.

NICK walks in.

IRENE

Well, did you find him?

NICK

I figured he’d be at Seb’s, but he hasn’t seen him since last night.

IRENE

Aw my god.

NICK

If ask me, he’s pulling a stunt.

HAYLEY

Well, what were you two arguing about yesterday?

NICK

None of your business.

HAYLEY

Well, is it anything we should know.

NICK sits on the couch.

HAYLEY

Do we need to go and find him?

IRENE

Aw, love, I don’t know. I promised Pippa that I wouldn’t. Look, I don’t want to ring her and worry her if he’s going to waltz through the door in five minutes.

HAYLEY

Yeah. Well, he might have gone to the drop-in centre. I’ll call Noah.

HAYLEY dials the phone. NICK walks into his room.

THE SAUNDERS HOUSE

SALLY and MIKEY are there. FLYNN is sitting at the table.

MIKEY

Thanks Sally. Yeah. I’ll be home straight after work.

There is a knock on the door. SALLY goes to answer it.

FLYNN

Actually Mikey, this isn’t your home. I mean, we need to talk to you about it.

SEB is at the door.

SALLY

Hey Seb.

MIKEY

Hey Seb. Do you want to see my room?

SEB

Your room.

MIKEY

Yeah. The bed wasn’t facing north, but Sally; she let me turn it around.

FLYNN

Mikey, you’ll be late for work.

MIKEY

Aw. It’s sixteen minutes, fifty-five. I’ve got to show you next time. Bye Sally. Bye Flynn.

SEB

See you later Mikey.

SALLY

See you Mikey.

FLYNN

See you Mikey.

MIKEY walks out.

SALLY

So, what can we do for you?

SEB

Actually, it was Flynn that I wanted to see.

SALLY

Have you got an appointment?

SEB

No.

FLYNN

Ignore her. Come on. Let’s go through to the surgery. How are you?

FLYNN’S SURGERY

SEB and FLYNN are there.

SEB

There is this guy I know and, em, well he’s found himself in a position where he’s attracted to another guy.

FLYNN

And this guys always thought of himself as being straight. Is that it? A bit confused.

SEB

Yeah, I guess.

FLYNN

OK. There’s nothing wrong with that. I mean, nothing to be ashamed off. Most person these days understand about being gay.

SEB

Well, the thing is, I’m the other guy and I think I might have done the wrong thing.

FLYNN

Right, sorry. Hang on. Who’s the guy who didn’t know he was gay?

SEB

I told you. A friend of mine.

FLYNN

Right.

SEB

It’s Chris Fletcher. That’s why I didn’t want to talk to you about it in front of Sally.

FLYNN

OK. I see. Go on.

SEB

Well, the real problem is last night I told him I thought he was gay and I shouldn’t of. It’s definitely not what he wanted to hear. Now he’s disappeared and I, no one knows where he is.

FLYNN

Do you think he might have done something foolish?

SEB

I don’t know. I don’t know.

THE SAUNDERS HOUSE

SEB and FLYNN walk out the surgery.

FLYNN

I’m sure he’ll turn it up, safe and sound. When you see him, tell him if he wants to talk to me at any time he can. No appointment necessary.

SALLY

Yeah, that’s terrific.

SEB

Thanks a lot Flynn. I’ll see you later.

SALLY

I’ll see you there.

SEB walks away. SALLY is on the phone in the living room.

SALLY

OK, bye.

SALLY puts the phone down.

FLYNN

Sally. Have you spoken to Chris today?

SALLY

No, but I’m going to give a call later. I want to invite him over for some dinner. That was Mrs Dunn. I’m going to go and have a coffee with her. I want to sort out these problems with this group house. Why are you asking about Chris?

FLYNN

He’s gone missing Sal?

THE WHARF

MIKEY runs up to the Blaxland.

MIKEY

Scott.

MIKEY looks under the wharf.

THE BEACH HOUSE

NICK is sitting on his bed. HAYLEY walks in.

HAYLEY

Well, he’s not at the drop-in centre and Noah hasn’t seen him? What’s wrong? Come on. Talk to me.

NICK

Yesterday with Chris I said some things that I shouldn’t have.

HAYLEY

What sort of things?

NICK

About him being gay.

HAYLEY

So what if he is? You’ve met gay guys before and that’s never bothered you.

NICK

I know. I know. I don’t know what’s happening to me lately Hayley. Yesterday Paris caught me for manipulating Irene and he was right. I did. Then I push Chris over the edge for being gay. That’s psycho behaviour. That’s Angie stuff.

HAYLEY

You’re nothing like her Nick.

NICK

Yeah. Why am I doing all this stuff?

THE WHARF

MIKEY is kneeling down on the beach. SCOTT walks along carrying a tool-box.

MIKEY

Hey Scott.

SCOTT

What were you doing under there?

MIKEY

Aw, I was helping somebody.

SCOTT

Look, you’re paid to help me. You can’t just run off without letting me know, you know. I’m responsible for your safety. Mikey, this really isn’t working out, you know. I know you’re trying hard, but you just don’t keep your mind on the job. You accept charters without checking with me first. You run off without letting me know where you are going. Mikey, are you listening?

MIKEY

Yeah, sorry Scott.

SCOTT

Watch out.

MIKEY kicks the toolbox into the water.

MIKEY

How are you going to get that out because it’s quite deep there, isn’t it?

SCOTT

Mikey. I’m going to have to let you go mate. I’ve got no choice.

MIKEY

Let me go. What? You mean you’re giving me; you’re giving me the sack.

SCOTT

I’m sorry mate.

FLYNN’S SURGERY

FLYNN and COLLEEN walk in.

COLLEEN

Just between ourselves. I owe young Maximus a bit of money so I could use the extra income and here you are looking for a receptionist. Fate has brought us together.

FLYNN

Well, actually, I’ve already spoken to some other people Colleen.

COLLEEN

Oh, yes, but you have to ask yourself. Do they have the local knowledge that I have? There’s nothing like local knowledge to instil confidence in your patients.

FLYNN

Yeah.

COLLEEN

And I’ll be saving you money by providing my own uniform. Well, actually, it’s my bowls outfit, but no one will notice.

FLYNN

Well, you don’t need a uniform to be a receptionist.

COLLEEN

Well, I think you do. It assures the public that they’re in the hands of a safe medical professional.

FLYNN

Look Colleen. It’s very kind of you to offer your services, but I’m afraid that these days a receptionist has to be computer literate.

COLLEEN

Aw, I’m very literate. I picked it up from young Maximus when we’re writing together.

FLYNN

OK. Here’s what I’ll do. I’ll give you a short trial period just to see whether you’re happy in the job.

COLLEEN

Aw, I was about to suggest the very same thing. How about in a weeks time?

FLYNN

Starting tomorrow.

COLLEEN

Tomorrow it is then. I’ll be looking forward to it.

FLYNN starts typing quickly on the computer. COLLEEN looks worried.

THE BEACH HOUSE

IRENE and NICK are there.

NICK

Irene, I think I might have something to do with Chris disappearing.

IRENE

Go on.

NICK

He’s gay, you know.

IRENE

Really. So.

NICK

I slagged him off yesterday. I gave him a really hard time.

IRENE

For being gay.

NICK

Yeah.

IRENE

Shortie, what were you thinking?

SEB knocks on the door.

SEB

Hi.

IRENE

Come in darl.

SEB

Any news?

IRENE

No. Not yet.

IRENE

Ah, actually. Em, I might take these out to the car for Jess.

IRENE walks out.

NICK

Yeah, OK, OK. It’s my fault.

SEB

Why do you hate him so much?

NICK

I just hate you and him getting so buddy.

SEB

What? Nick, I’m your best mate. Nothing changes that.

NICK

I know. I’m an idiot, OK.

SEB

It’s not all your fault. What I said to him is what really hurt him.

NICK

Do you think something might have happened to him?

SEB

Let’s start looking.

NICK

Let’s go.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

COLLEEN, KIRSTY and MAX sit at the computer.

MAX

See this little button here. Back Space, press that.

COLLEEN

Oh, my whole names disappeared.

KIRSTY

Colleen, what you’re actually supposed to do is just press it once. Not lean your whole body weight on it.

MAX

OK. Now, imagine this was a very important program and you needed to save it.

COLLEEN

From what?

MAX

So you can keep it.

COLLEEN

I think I better write all this down.

NICK and SEB walk in. KIRSTY stands up.

KIRSTY

Oh hey. How’s it going? Has Christopher turned up yet?

COLLEEN

No, we’re going to go look for him. Do you want to come?

KIRSTY

Aw.

COLLEEN

Press start button. I think I’m getting the hang of it.

THE SURF CLUB

KIRSTY, NICK and SEB walk in.

KIRSTY

Em, I’ll check out the gym, OK.

NICK

I’ll do the locker room.

NICK and KIRSTY walk into the gym. SEB walks over to MIKEY who is sitting at the counter.

SEB

Mikey.

MIKEY

Hi.

SEB

Have you seen Christopher?

MIKEY

Hey Seb. I knew you’d come. Yeah, you’re my friend.

SEB

Yeah. I’m looking for Christopher.

MIKEY

Sally, she’s my friend too, but Scott, he’s not. No, see, he won’t let me have his van and he gave me the sack.

SEB

What? What happened?

MIKEY

Nothing. No, I like that boat. It’s got a sixty horsepower diesel engine with a single prop. Why did he give me the sack?

SEB

I’m sorry. I don’t know.

KIRSTY and NICK walk up to SEB and MIKEY.

KIRSTY

He’s not in the gym. We don’t know where he is.

NICK

No, he’s not here.

SEB

I’ve got to go now Mikey, but I’ll be back later, OK.

KIRSTY

Bye Mikey.

NICK

See you.

SEB

Bye.

SEB, NICK and KIRSTY walk out.

MIKEY

I saw Christopher.

SEB

What? Where?

THE WHARF

SEB, KIRSTY, NICK and MIKEY run along. CHRISTOPHER is lying underneath the wharf.

CHRISTOPHER

I guess every bodies been looking for me.

SEB

We were worried.

CHRISTOPHER

I’m sorry.

SEB

No, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did.

CHRISTOPHER gets out from underneath the wharf.

CHRISTOPHER

I just kept walking and walking and thinking. I realised you were right and I’m just got to find about who I am. You know, what I am.

KIRSTY

And you slept here all night.

CHRISTOPHER

And then when I woke up I felt like such an idiot. You know, I knew everybody would be freaking and I just felt so ashamed I couldn’t really face them. I don’t know what I would have done if Mikey hadn’t come along and gave me his sandwiches.

MIKEY

You even had the orange.

NICK

Look, I’m sorry about before. You know, I have this nasty habit of lashing out when I feel threatened.

CHRISTOPHER

Mate, I didn’t threaten you.

NICK

I know. It’s just, you two were hanging out so much.

CHRISTOPHER

Look, I could never take him away from you. You guys are too close. You’re like brothers.

KIRSTY

So I guess you waft some. Up for shower.

NICK

Yeah mate. You stink.

CHRISTOPHER

You leave me on a beach all day man.

THE BEACH HOUSE

CHRISTOPHER sits on the couch. SALLY and IRENE walk through.

IRENE

Aw, Sal. Talk about timing. I mean, there I was in the middle of dialling Pip, when in all they waltzed.

CHRISTOPHER

Look, I’m sorry I put you through that.

IRENE

Aw sweetie. All’s well, that ends well. Anyway, why don’t you have a nat to your big sis?

IRENE walks through to the kitchen.

CHRISTOPHER

I suppose you wondered about me too, like mum and Ian?

SALLY

Well, sometimes.

CHRISTOPHER

It just feels like I’m only the person in the whole world that doesn’t know how I am?

SALLY

That’s part of what makes life so interesting. Discovering yourself.

CHRISTOPHER

Well, I mean, my whole life I’ve just wanted to be like all the other guys. I mean, I don’t even know if I want to be.

SALLY

Chris, there are lots of boys your age that are confused about their sexuality. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. It just means that you need more time.

CHRISTOPHER

Yeah, but what if I am?

SALLY

Go on.

CHRISTOPHER

What if I am gay

SALLY

Well, then you’ll be just fine. Whatever path you find yourself on, we’ll always going to love you, no matter what.

CHRISTOPHER

Yeah, well I’m not really sure of anything right now.

SALLY

Well, don’t beat yourself up about it. You just be true to you and how you feel. However life takes you.

CHRISTOPHER

Do you think I’ll be OK?

SALLY

No doubt in my mind.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

ALF and CHRISTOPHER sit at a table.

ALF

I can see a lot of your dad in you. He would have been real proud of you.

CHRISTOPHER

You think so?

ALF

Aw, yeah. He was a good bloke Tom. He was hard, but he was very fair. He thought you kids were Christmas. He would have defended to the hilt your right to be different.

COLLEEN is standing at the counter reading a book. JESSE walks into the kitchen. LEAH is there. There are cookie boxes everywhere.

JESSE

How are you doing?

LEAH

Aw, Colleen and Irene are done. I’m just checking the last of Dani’s and I popped home earlier and Hayley’s done too, so you can pick them up whenever you like. So, we’re nearly finished.

JESSE

And you have done brilliantly.

LEAH

Aw.

JESSE

Shall I start taking these out?

LEAH

Aw, yeah, thanks. Hey, em, Jess. Thanks. What would I do without you?

JESSE

Yeah.

LEAH

After you.

LEAH and JESSE walk out carrying the boxes of cookies.

LEAH

Colleen, how did your computer lesson go?

COLLEEN

Oh. Oh, it was very enlightening. We did click and drag, toolbars, file menus, fonts and windows. I don’t know how to make any of them work, but at least I know they are there.

LEAH

Well, it’s a start anyway. What are you reading?

COLLEEN

Oh, it’s a medical encyclopaedia. I bought it so I could familiarise myself with medical talk.

LEAH

Right. Good idea.

COLLEEN

Aw, no. It’s terrible. I’ve found out I’ve got the symptoms of fifteen different diseases and I’m only halfway through the A’s.

LEAH

Aw.

THE SAUNDERS HOUSE

SALLY and FLYNN are there. MRS DUNN walks in.

FLYNN

Mikey, your mums here.

FLYNN walks into the bedrooms.

SALLY

Did you get the group house sorted out?

MRS DUNN

Yes. Lynn said he’s usually so little trouble they tend to take him for granted. They’ll pay more attention in future.

MIKEY and FLYNN walk out the bedrooms.

MRS DUNN

Hello darling. Are you all right now?

MIKEY

I’m still sad. Yeah, I mean, usually I don’t mean being different, but today I wish I was normal.

SALLY

Well, I’m sure things will be a lot brighter tomorrow.

MRS DUNN

Yes, we’ve arranged an interview for a new job tomorrow and Scott’s given you a lovely reference.

MIKEY

Will it be boats?

MRS DUNN

I don’t know love.

MIKEY

I hope so.

MRS DUNN

Say goodbye.

MIKEY

Aw, my manners. Goodbye Sally. Thank you for having me. Goodbye Flynn. Yeah. I’ll be back soon to make sure Sally’s OK.

FLYNN

I’ll be looking forward to it.

SALLY

You take care of yourself.

SALLY and MIKEY cuddle.

MIKEY

I will. I’ll take care of myself. Come on mum.

MRS DUNN

Thanks Sal.

MIKEY and MRS DUNN walk out.

FLYNN

Don’t worry. He’ll be back.

SALLY

Yeah, I know. My own personal bodyguard.

FLYNN

Well, it’s a body well worth protecting.

THE PATTERSON HOUSE

HAYLEY and LEAH are in the kitchen.

HAYLEY

Aw, just in time for some camomile tea.

LEAH

Sounds wonderful.

JESSE walks in.

JESSE

Hey. I just popped my head in to see VJ. He is sound asleep.

HAYLEY

Aw. Well, I’m making some camomile tea. Do you want some or a coffee or a beer?

JESSE

Ah, thank you, but I won’t. I’ve got an early start tomorrow. I’ve got to get all these cookies safely delivered by eight.

JESSE picks up a box full of cookies.

LEAH

OK.

JESSE

So I’ll see you then.

LEAH

Yep.

JESSE

Bye.

LEAH

Hey, Jess. I owe you big time.

JESSE

It’s my pleasure.

LEAH

Night.

JESSE walks out.

HAYLEY

So, it’s just us girls then.

LEAH

Aw, I’m so sorry it’s been a bit hectic since you’ve been here, but I promise things will settle down.

LEAH and HAYLEY walk through to the living room.

HAYLEY

Yeah, we might even have time for our men, huh.

LEAH

Our men.

HAYLEY

Aw, well, Alex and Jesse.

LEAH

Hayley, let’s just get something straight. Jesse’s a nice guy, a really nice guy, but it’s only been the last few weeks that I’ve been able to close the books on Vinnie. If Jesse wants to see me, I mean, that’s great. I love his company, but.

HAYLEY

Well, just tell him that.

LEAH

I can’t. Don’t you see? He has to make the first move. I mean, I just. I can’t do it. You know, anyway, here’s to the success of the cookie queens.

HAYLEY

To the cookie queens.

LEAH

Ah.

FLYNN’S SURGERY

FLYNN walks into the surgery. He picks up the phone and walks to the door.

THE SAUNDERS HOUSE

The phone rings. SALLY walks over and answers the phone. FLYNN can be seen standing at the surgery door.

SALLY

Hello.

FLYNN

Hi Sal. Just wanted to let you know that I made it to work safely.

SALLY

You are a lunatic.

FLYNN

See you at lunchtime.

SALLY

Mmm.

FLYNN’S SURGERY

FLYNN walks back in to the surgery. COLLEEN walks in carrying flowers.

COLLEEN

Morning doctor.

FLYNN

Hi Colleen.

FLYNN turns the computer.

COLLEEN

See, I told you I was computer literate.

LOTTY and JASON walk in.

COLLEEN

Oh, morning Lotty. Morning Jason. Dr. Saunders will be with you in a minute.

FLYNN

Right. OK.

FLYNN walks in to his room.

COLLEEN

Right, you wouldn’t mind just filling in your personal detail please and Lotty, don’t you dare lie about your birth date. You know perfectly well you were two classes ahead of me. I was speaking to your mum the other day Jason. Are you here about that nasty attack of tinuin in the groin area, is it?

FLYNN

Colleen.

COLLEEN

Oh, thank you Lotty. Dr.’s ready for you now.

LOTTY walks into FLYNN’S room. COLLEEN goes back over to her desk and put up a photo.

THE SURF CLUB

CHRISTOPHER and SALLY are walking along.

SALLY

Are you sure I can’t drive you?

CHRISTOPHER

No, the bus is fine. I mean, you’ve already been so good to me, you know. I’m going to miss you.

SALLY

I hope that means you’ll be back to visit.

CHRISTOPHER

Yeah, you bet.

SALLY

Come here.

SALLY and CHRISTOPHER cuddle.

SALLY

Now, you keep in touch, OK.

CHRISTOPHER

I will. Thank you so much for everything.

SALLY

See you.

CHRISTOPHER

Bye.

SALLY walks away. SEB and NICK are playing air football.

NICK

He beats one and goes around another.

SEB

Passes to Miller at the far post.

NICK

Smith with a pass.

SEB

Miller strikes. Thank you.

NICK

And Fletcher makes a perfect save.

SEB

What? Off are you Christopher?

CHRISTOPHER

Yeah. The bus is due in like ten minutes.

NICK

Right, ten minutes, OK. You’re on my side. Seb’s the opposition.

CHRISTOPHER

All right.

SEB, CHRISTOPHER and NICK all play air football.

NICK

Kick off Smith taps the ball to Fletcher and Miller, but he zips around him like he wasn’t there. Passes back to Smith.

CHRISTOPHER

Passes back to Smith.

SEB

On the inside.

CHRISTOPHER

Fletcher who passes back to Smith.

NICK

Who goes for a tap-in. Goal.

NICK takes his shirt off.

NICK

Yeah, yeah.

He jumps into CHRISTOPHER’S arms.

NICK

Yeah. Woah.

NICK

Watch it. No kissing.

CHRISTOPHER

As if I’d kiss you mate.

CHRISTOPHER puts NICK down.

SEB

You take care.

CHRISTOPHER

Yeah, I will. I guess I’ll see you again when I’m back in the bay, eh.

NICK

You better mate.

CHRISTOPHER

See you later.

NICK

Yeah.

FLYNN’S SURGERY

COLLEEN is sitting at the desk reading a medical book. FLYNN and PATRICK walk out FLYNN’S room.

FLYNN

Give me a call next week. Here’s your prescription. Thanks Patrick.

PATRICK

Thank you.

PATRICK walks out.

FLYNN

I’m just going pop in next-door and make a sandwich. Would you like one?

COLLEEN

Aw, no thank you doctor. I’ve brought my own.

FLYNN

OK. Won’t be long.

COLLEEN

Doctor. I think I’ve got something wrong with me.

FLYNN

What makes you think that? You really shouldn’t be reading that, you know. The same thing happens at university with the first year med students. As soon as they discover a disease, they’re convinced they’ve got it.

COLLEEN

No. It’s something I’ve been worrying about for a couple of weeks now. It’s a pain in my armpit.

FLYNN

Are you sure? Do you want me to check it out?

COLLEEN

Oh, if it’s no trouble.

FLYNN

You go in there and get undressed.

COLLEEN

Aw, no. On second thoughts, I’m probably just imagining things.

FLYNN

Put on one of the gowns if you like. Give me a call when you’re ready.

COLLEEN is lying on a bed. FLYNN is feeling around her shoulder.

FLYNN

If you just place your arm above your head. How long have you had that lump on your breast Colleen?
