Scripts - Episode 3265

THE HOSPITAL

CHARLOTTE and another NURSE treat NOAH. HAYLEY, IRENE and JUDE stand at the door.

IRENE

What happened?

HAYLEY

One minute he was OK. The next thing I knew. He has passed out.

JUDE

How can you stop breathing too?

CHARLOTTE

Where’s the oxylog? Guys, can you clear the room please.

HAYLEY, JUDE and IRENE walk out the room.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

JOSH and DANI are there.

JOSH

Come on, tell me. What is it?

DANI

You know the ones.

SHELLEY walks through.

DANI

Mum, what’s my favourite flowers? The pink, purpley.

SHELLEY

Lilyanthum.

DANI

Yeah.

JOSH

Trust you to be different. Favourite colour.

DANI

Not unless you tell me why.

JOSH

You’ll find out.

DANI

Purple.

JOSH

Good. See you  at seven.

DANI

Bye.

DANI and JOSH kiss.

JOSH

Aw, hey.

JOSH walks out. SEB and LARA walk in.

SEB

Hi. Can we come in?

DANI

Yeah, sure.

JADE walks out the kitchen.

JADE

Hey. Just as well you guys are here otherwise Nick would have scoffed these all on his own.

SHELLEY walks up to SEB.

SHELLEY

Any news on Noah?

SEB

I talked to Jude a while ago. No change.

SHELLEY

Well, you can use the phone if you need to.

SEB

Thank you.

SEB goes to the phone. JADE, LARA and NICK are sitting on the couch.

JADE

Do you want one?

LARA

Oh, no, I couldn’t. Me and Seb just had about a thousand milkshakes at the diner. I wanted to try and take his mind of things.

JADE

Oh, big ask. Mum was explaining meningococcal to me. Way heavy.

LARA

Yeah, I know. We looked it up on the internet today together.

JADE

Anyone want a drink?

NICK

I’d love one.

JADE and LARA walk away. LARA kisses SEB who is on the phone.

SEB

Aw, yeah. Could I get some information on a patient please?

JADE

Since when?

SEB

What?

NICK

Dude, if that’s the way you act with someone that you’re just hanging with I’m starting to feel very, very nervous.

THE HOSPITAL

CHARLOTTE is treating NOAH. Another DOCTOR comes in.

DOCTOR

I came as fast as I could. You get out of here.

CHARLOTTE

Thank you.

CHARLOTTE walks out the room. JUDE, IRENE and HAYLEY are standing outside the room.

CHARLOTTE

We’ve got him on a ventilator so we can monitor him and control his breathing.

HAYLEY

What made him go unconscious?

CHARLOTTE

The infection caused a swelling around the brain which stopped him from breathing.

JUDE

Well, is he out of danger?

CHARLOTTE

I wish I could say yes, but its too soon. We’ll have to see how he goes overnight and if he starts responding we can take the tubes out.

IRENE

Noah’s young. He’s as fit as a manic bull. He’ll pull through this.

JUDE

Are you sure you weren’t in there too long?

CHARLOTTE

I’ll be fine and so will the baby.

JUDE and CHARLOTTE cuddle.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

DON, FLYNN and SALLY are in the office.

DON

You can’t even give it to me?

FLYNN

If I give personal details out Don I will lose the kids trust completely.

DON

Well, is it possible for you to give Ryan my number.

FLYNN

The whole point of place like this is the kids come here without any pressure Don.

SALLY

Ryan’s already been contacted about the meningococcal outbreak Don. There’s no need for you worries on that score.

DON

I was more worried about what he confided in me. The boy needs help.

FLYNN

Well, if he contacts me and asks for you I will let you know, but I’m afraid that’s best I can do.

DON

All right then. I’ll leave you to it.

DON walks out.

FLYNN

What?

SALLY

I was just wondering why Brett was so keen to find out about Don’s sacking. Asking me and Irene.

FLYNN

Well, I’d say he was making conversation with Irene and covering up with you.

SALLY

Covering.

FLYNN

Covering. The fact that he still likes you.

SALLY

It really doesn’t bother you, does it?

FLYNN

Why get upset about something I can’t control?

SALLY

Well, thank you Mr. Romance.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

SEB is on the phone. JADE, NICK and LARA are sitting on the couches. RHYS is in the kitchen.

SEB

Aw, no, I’m just a friend.

Yeah. I understand.

Thanks.

SEB puts the phone down.

SEB

He’s in a stable condition, whatever that means. To find out anymore I’ve got to be a relative.

NICK

Seb, you’re so straight man. Why did you not say you were?

LARA

Because he’s honest.

JADE

Nick doesn’t understand the concept. He had his honesty genes removed at birth.

NICK

Aw, ha.

NICK and JADE kiss. DANI walks in. SHELLEY is sitting at the table.

DANI

What do you think?

SHELLEY

Looks nice

DANI

Not too dressy.

SHELLEY

Where are you going?

RHYS sits at the table.

DANI

I told you. Dinner with Josh.

SHELLEY

No. I meant, what sort of restaurant?

DANI

Em, he’s going to cook a special dinner in his van.

SHELLEY

You look beautiful. No need to change.

DANI

Thank you.

DANI walks away.

RHYS

Dinner in his van.

DON’S HOUSE

DON sits at the table. JUNE walks up to him.

JUNE

Why don’t you give it a break. Seb and Lara will be home soon. We’ll have to start on dinner.

DON

Yes, well I might as well. It’s going nowhere fast anyway.

JUNE

Lack of inspiration or are you still worrying about Ryan?

DON

Well, what he wrote at the drop-in centre was very disturbing. I can only hope that it was the product of an overactive imagination.

JUNE

Well, is that how it read?

DON

Well yes. I mean, it was, it was passionate, full of passion and an honesty, an honesty so brutal that, well it made this look very pedestrian. All head and no heart.

JUNE

Ah, there you are. You’re halfway there. All you’ve got to do is put in the heart.

SEB and LARA walk in.

SEB

Hey. Em, can we get pizza tonight instead of steak?

DON

Seb, we’re having steak. Oh no, it’s Alf night.

JUNE

What on earth is Alf night?

DON

Ah, well since Ailsa died we’ve been meeting once a week for dinner. He’s normally here by now. I wonder if he’s decided not to come because you’re here.

JUNE

Well I certainly hope not.

SEB

No, I saw him getting out of his ute as we were coming in?

There is a knock on the door.

DON

Aw, that must be him now. I’d appreciate it if he didn’t know I’d forgotten him. He’d be very hurt I think.

DON answers the door. ALF is there.

LARA

I getting see a whole new side to your granddad. It’s weird.

DON

Alf, come in.

ALF

Thanks mate.

DON

I was starting to think you might be a no show.

ALF

Well, I almost was. They tried to keep me at the diner.

JUNE

Well, we’re very glad they didn’t because we’ve been looking forward to this and I have a confession to make. I was supposed to buy some steaks and I forgot.

SEB

Aw, no. I guess we’re just going to have to have pizza instead.

ALF

Your memory must be going mate. It was my turn to bring the beef.

DON

Aw.

ALF

I’ll take the beef through.

DON

Thanks June.

JUNE

My pleasure.

DON and ALF walk through to the kitchen.

JOSH’S CARAVAN

JOSH is cooking.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

DANI and SHELLEY are in the hall.

SHELLEY

Special night then?

DANI

And you’ve got a look on your face that says you want to give me some special advice.

SHELLEY

Mmm. Don’t let the past dictate what you do. You’ve got nothing to prove darling, least of all yourself. Whatever you do, just make sure it feels right, for you for now.

DANI

You know, I’ve thought about it a lot and em, it does. Better go, so thank you.

DANI walks through to the living room where RHYS is.

DANI

Bye dad.

DANI walks out. SHELLEY and RHYS cuddle.

JOSH’S CARAVAN

The caravan is filled with purple and candles. There is a knock on the door. DANI walks in. JOSH is there.

DANI

Aw, sweetie. I don’t know what to say.

JOSH

Well sweetie’s fine.

DANI and JOSH kiss.

DON’S HOUSE

ALF, DON and JUNE are there.

JUNE

So, how long have they been going on these little dinners for two?

DON

You make it sound like something.

LARA and SEB are in the kitchen.

LARA

What if we get caught?

SEB

Who cares?

SEB and LARA kiss.

DON

Seb.

SEB walks through.

SEB

Yeah.

DON

Do you need a hand?

SEB

Aw, no, no. We’re fine. We’ll be out in a minute, OK.

SEB walks back into the kitchen.

JUNE

Sweet, isn’t it?

ALF

Not if you’re hungry it’s not.

JUNE

Alf, where’s your sense of romance?

ALF

Oh, I’ve got one. It doesn’t surface very often thinking about how young they start these days compared to our day.

DON

Alf, there’s been a sexual revolution since our day.

ALF

That doesn’t make it wrong Don.

JOSH’S CARAVAN

JOSH and DANI are there.

DANI

I can’t believe how much trouble you’ve gone to.

JOSH

Why wouldn’t I? This is a very special night and I’m a hopeless romantic.

DANI and JOSH kiss.

DANI

Hopeless, but good.

JOSH

But first we have to eat.

DANI

Smells lovely.

JOSH

It’s the garlic and I don’t know about the other stuff. Why don’t you just sit down, admire the whatever you call them and I’ll put the pasta on.

DANI and JOSH kiss.

THE HOSPITAL

JUDE and HAYLEY are at NOAH’S beside. After a while JUDE leaves. HAYLEY holds NOAH’S hand.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

RHYS and SHELLEY sit on the couch.

RHYS

Do you reckon they’re on to sweets yet?

SHELLEY

Stop torturing yourself.

SHELLEY and RHYS look at each other.

JOSH’S CARAVAN

JOSH and DANI are there.

JOSH

Did I tell you how hot you look tonight?

DANI

No. Jus as well you have.

JOSH

You’re beautiful.

DANI

So are you.

JOSH

This is disgusting.

DANI

Disgusting is a bit harsh.

JOSH

Well, how about we get straight on with desert? I have ice cream.

DANI

I think I’ll pass.

DANI and JOSH kiss.

DON’S HOUSE

ALF, JUNE, DON, LARA and SEB are sitting at the table.

ALF

So, how’s the fight going to get your job back Don?

DON

Aw, slowly Alf. Somehow I have to prove that I had a lawful excuse for being on school property after the department had instructed otherwise.

ALF

Well, the legal blokes will sort something out won’t they?

DON

Well they’re trying to.

ALF

Well if you need a character reference at all.

DON

Oh, thanks Alf. That means a lot.

ALF

Had one of your old teachers in the diners yesterday, actually. Brett Egan. He’s just in town for holiday.

DON

Oh, really.

ALF

Yeah.

DON

Well, I’ll keep an eye out for him them.

JUNE

So, Lara, tell me. What do you like to do apart from orienteering and windsurfing?

SEB

Latin American dancing.

LARA

Seb.

JUNE

Latin American . I love it. Are you taking classes?

LARA

Aw, not so much lately, but I’m hoping to get back in to it.

DON

And the classes. Are they popular?

LARA

Too many girls though.

ALF

Well you ought to drag young Seb along.

SEB

Em, everyone finished.

ALF

Yeah. That’s terrific June and the salad was good too love.

DON

Yes, indeed.

SEB and LARA carry the dishes into the kitchen.

DON

I don’t think I’ve ever seen this table cleared so quickly.

ALF

The mention of a dance class will do it every time.

SEB and LARA are in the kitchen.

SEB

That was so embarrassing. I am so sorry.

LARA

That’s OK.

JOSH’S CARAVAN

JOSH and DANI are kissing.

DANI

I love you.

JOSH

I love you.

JOSH and DANI start kissing. DANI pushes JOSH away.

JOSH

What?

DANI

I can’t do this.

JOSH

What?

DANI

I thought I could, but I can’t.

DANI walks away. Later JOSH walks over to DANI.

JOSH

Dani, I’m so sorry.

DANI

No, look. You don’t have to be sorry. It’s got nothing to do with you.

JOSH

I shouldn’t have waited. I wanted you so much. I thought that.

DANI

No, it’s got nothing to do with you. It’s me OK.

JOSH

I should have.

DANI

It’s me, don’t you get it?

JOSH

I shouldn’t have pushed you.

DANI

No, look. I wanted tonight to be special and it was, but Kane came back again. I’m so. I’m sorry I ruined it for us.

DANI walks away.

JOSH

Oh, Dani, wait, please.

JOSH

I’m fine. I just.

DANI walks out.

THE HOSPITAL

JUDE sits on a chair yawning. IRENE walks up to him.

IRENE

Hey darl. How’s it going?

JUDE

Yeah, OK. It’s been a pretty long night?

IRENE

So, how is he? Any improvement? They didn’t tell me anything useful on the phone.

JUDE

Why don’t you take a look for yourself?

IRENE walks up to the door. HAYLEY is at NOAH’S bedside.

HAYLEY

OK, what do you want for lunch? You’re choice is beef curry or chicken cacciatore.

NOAH

Which one takes the least time.

HAYLEY

Oh, that’s a hard one.

JUDE walks up to IRENE.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

CHARLOTTE and SALLY are sitting at a table.

SALLY

You can’t keep it up.

CHARLOTTE

I know, I know.

SALLY

Double shifts aren’t something that you want your pilot or your doctor doing?

CHARLOTTE

We’re understaffed.

SALLY

Well complain to management. Go to media.

CHARLOTTE

They’ll drop you.

SALLY

They’re not going to sack you. How’s Jude?

CHARLOTTE

Wish I had a dollar for every time you’ve asked me that.

SALLY

I mean, how is he coping with Noah’s illness? But since you’ve taken it wrong the way you may as well fill me in.

CHARLOTTE

Fill you in on.

SALLY

You are tired, aren’t you? I mean, tell me how things are going on between the two of you.

CHARLOTTE

Oh. I’m not going to give up on him Sal. I’m not going to raise this baby up on my own like my mother did. It’s not fair on the child. The bottom line is I’m absolutely determined to make this work.

COLLEEN walks up to the table.

COLLEEN

Oh, for goodness sake dear. Take yourself home to bed. She looks like death warmed up, doesn’t she Sal?

SALLY

Ah, yes she does look a bit tired.

CHARLOTTE

All right Colleen. I’m going.

COLLEEN

Aw, just as well before you fall over. Ridiculous the way they work you young ones. Exploitation. That’s what it is.

CHARLOTTE walks out. COLLEEN walks behind the counter. DON and JUNE walk in. They bump into BRETT.

DON

Aw, hello Brett.

BRETT

Hi, Don.

DON

I heard you were back in town.

BRETT

Good to see you.

DON

Yeah, good to see you as well. Oh, June Reynolds, this is Brett Egan. Brett used to teach here.

JUNE

Hi.

DON

So what brings you back to Summer Bay then?

BRETT

Oh, the need for a brief, but well earned rest.

DON

Oh, I see. And how’s the new job?

BRETT

Well it’s more of a challenge that I expected to be honest.

DON

Yeah, well I’m not surprised. PR was never the departments forte, was it? Well, good luck anyway.

BRETT

Yeah, yeah. Thanks. Good to see you.

DON

And you.

BRETT

Bye.

BRETT walks out. SALLY walks up to DON and JUNE.

SALLY

Excuse me Don. Is Brett still working for the Education Department?

DON

Yes he is. Yeah. I thought you knew.

SALLY

Aw, no, no, no, no. Excuse me.

SALLY walks out.

THE BEACH

BRETT is walking along. SALLY runs after him.

SALLY

Hey Brett. Why didn’t you tell me you worked for the education department?

BRETT

I assumed you knew. I only took holiday leave.

SALLY

Now in PR?

BRETT

Yeah, yeah, change of direction.

SALLY

And you still say that you’re here on a holiday.

BRETT

Is that so strange? I mean, take a look at that beach.

SALLY

Then why all the questions about Don Fisher and why were you asking Irene about the school grade average?

BRETT

Just making polite conversation.

SALLY

And with me?

BRETT

Well, I had to talk to you about something after you made it absolutely clear there was no hope for us, didn’t I?

SALLY

Yeah, sorry about that.

BRETT

It’s OK. You’ve moved on Sal. It’s cool. Flynn seems like a great guy. I hope you guys will be happy.

SALLY

Thanks.

BRETT

I want you to know though I haven’t forgotten how good you were for me last time I was here and I handled that whole Woody situation really badly and I just hope there’s some way I can put that right. Anyway I’ve got a couple things I’ve got to do on the way out of town. I’m expected back in the city this afternoon, so, I’ll see you Sal. Thank you.

SALLY

Yeah, you too.

BRETT walks away.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

LARA and SEB walk out the kitchen.

LARA

She’s nice, isn’t she?

SEB

Yeah, June, she is.

LARA

She got me all inspired. I asked mum and I’m starting Latin American dance classes again next week.

SEB

Awesome.

LARA

Hey, why don’t you come along? You can join in if you want.

SEB

Oh, no. I don’t think so.

LARA

Come on. It will be fun.

SEB

I’d feel like a dork.

LARA

I guess that makes me a dork then.

SEB

No, no, of course not. It’s just not my thing.

LARA

How do you know? Look Seb, I was only asking you to come along and watch and if it’s going to ruin your image or something, then I completely understand.

LARA walks away.

SEB

Lara.

DON’S HOUSE

DON and JUNE are sitting outside. SALLY walks up to them.

DON

Aw, Sally. Em, good morning again. What can we do for you?

SALLY

Well I was just checking my e-mails and I received something that I thought you might find interesting. I came straight over. Two reports. Two internal education department reports.

DON

Em, well, what are they about?

SALLY

Well, the first shows that the valuation of the Summer Bay High site was done before the decision to close the school.

JUNE

So it could have been made on financial considerations.

SALLY

Oh, almost certainly was. The seconds reports just blatantly incorrect. It gives the schools grade averages much lower than it actually is.

DON

Well, this is incredible. Who sent this?

SALLY

I strongly suspect it was Brett Egan. I don’t think it’s just a coincidence that he was here, especially after he was asking me all those questions. I mean, the thing is this might not help you get your job back Don, but it’s going to go a long way to keeping the school open.

DON

Yes, yes it is. Well, Brett or someone has just levelled the playing field.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

JOSH and SHELLEY are in the kitchen.

JOSH

Well, if you could just tell her I came past.

DANI walks in.

SHELLEY

Why don’t you tell her yourself? I just back to.

SHELLEY walks away.

JOSH

I didn’t whether to come past. I didn’t want to upset you. I was worried about you and I just wanted to make sure that you were OK.

DANI

I am. I’m fine.

JOSH

Good. I just want to say one thing. Last night didn’t change anything. Not for me. I still feel exactly the same way about you as I did before. It wasn’t important. It didn’t matter. Baby, the only thing that mattered was that you were upset and I couldn’t do anything to help.

DANI

Thank you for, em, being so.

JOSH

I’ll see you later then. Are you feeling OK?

JOSH walks out. SHELLEY walks over to DANI.

SHELLEY

Dani.

DANI

It just won’t go away mum. Kane just won’t go away.

DANI starts crying. SHELLEY and DANI cuddle.
