Scripts - Episode 3139

THE HOSPITAL

JUDE is putting stuff in his bag. CHARLOTTE walks in.

CHARLOTTE

What are you doing?

JUDE

Getting out of here.

CHARLOTTE

Jude, don’t be ridiculous. You’re not fit for discharge.

JUDE

Too bad. I’ve had it.

CHARLOTTE

Dr. Carlingford will need to see you again.

JUDE

At least six doctors have been through here in the last two days and not one of them has bothered to tell me what’s going on.

CHARLOTTE

Well, I’m sorry that happened. It shouldn’t happen.

JUDE

Yes, so where were you?

CHARLOTTE

I’ve been on other wards. Look, Jude, I understand this has all been really hard for you, but you can’t just leave because you’re over it.

JUDE

Actually I can and that’s what I’m doing.

CHARLOTTE

Your injuries were severe Jude. You’re putting yourself at risk if you leave now.

JUDE

I’ve had enough, all right. If I stay here any longer I’m going to go nuts and that’s something that I don’t want to risk.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

ALEX walks up to MILES.

ALEX

Miles, isn’t it? Remember me, Alex? Oldest buddy’s, friends till the end.

MILES

Give it a rest Alex.

ALEX

No, seriously Miles, ever since you arrived I’ve hardly seen you. I feel really neglected.

MILES

I’m sure you’ll live. Look, why have you got all this spare time on your hands? Why don’t you start coming up with some really creative ways of making it up to Nina for being such a jerk the other day?

ALEX

Hey, that hurts man, that really hurts.

MILES

Sit down loser.

GYPSY and HAYLEY are sitting at a table.

GYPSY

So,  have you told Noah about Robbie?

HAYLEY

No.

GYPSY

When are you going to?

HAYLEY

Soon. Really, really soon.

GYPSY

What’s with the stalling Hayley?

HAYLEY

Well it’s just that every time I try telling him something comes up to stop it happening. It’s like it’s a sign?

GYPSY

It’s a sign you’re looking for an excuse.

HAYLEY

You’re one to talk about hiding things.

GYPSY

Yeah, fickle.

HAYLEY

No, no, I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just I’m getting really stressed out about it.

GYPSY

Well it’s not going to go away until you tell him.

THE BUSH

SALLY and FLYNN are going along in FLYNN’S van down a dirt track.

SALLY

I know that there are no restaurants around here.

FLYNN

Oh, well, this isn’t your run of the mill restaurant. Five star service, gourmet cuisine and it’s just a short walk through there.

SALLY

What about my dress?

FLYNN

It’s beautiful, gorgeous, divine. Pity you’re going to have to take it off.

SALLY

What?

FLYNN and SALLY are walking through the bush. SALLY has changed into overalls.

FLYNN

Told you there was a reason I was wearing the boots.

SALLY

Yeah, well I just wish I didn’t have to wear this big ugly thing.

FLYNN

Ah, easy, I think my overalls are exciting.

SALLY

You should have told me to wear something more practical in the first place.

FLYNN

And miss this vision.

SALLY

This better be worth it.

SALLY and FLYNN come to a ledge.

SALLY

Let’s finish, shall we. Lunch is awaiting. Hello.

FLYNN throws a rope down off the ledge.

SALLY

Flynn.

FLYNN

It’s safe. I promise.

SALLY

Yeah, but I, I’ve never done anything like this before.

FLYNN

Stick with me kid. You never know what adventures await you.

THE HOSPITAL

JUDE and CHARLOTTE are there.

CHARLOTTE

Feel like some company while you wait. I’ll take that as a yes because I don’t want to believe you’d be that rude.

JUDE

Suit yourself.

CHARLOTTE

So, you’ve got all the dressings and medication.

JUDE

Oh, yeah, I’ve got a whole bag of fun right there.

CHARLOTTE

Can you just promise me that if you have any trouble with these you’ll come back and see me.

JUDE

I don’t believe in promises, but I’m sure if I’m on my death bed you’ll hear all about it.

CHARLOTTE

Good.

JUDE

Aw, good. You want me on my death bed, do you?

CHARLOTTE

No, I meant good, you’ve finally decided to see some sense. I only wish you had a bit more sense so you’d wait until Dr. Carlingford gives you the all clear.

JUDE

Well you said I could go home. Isn’t that enough?

NOAH walks in.

NOAH

You ready?

JUDE

I’m ready to rock when you are.

NOAH

OK. Ah, thanks for everything Charlotte, especially putting up with him. He’s actually a nice guy, you know.

CHARLOTTE

Ah, don’t worry. This tough guy thing doesn’t fool me.

NOAH

So, are you finished for the day?

CHARLOTTE

Yeah, yeah.

NOAH

Do you want a lift?

CHARLOTTE

Ah, thanks. I’ve got my car.

NOAH

Aw. Well I’ll be sure to turn the amp down when I get home.

CHARLOTTE

Thank you. I’m actually looking forward to a good ten hours stretch of sleep.

NOAH

Yeah, you deserve it.

CHARLOTTE

Let me know how he’s doing, OK. I’m only upstairs if you need me.

NOAH

OK.

THE BUSH

SALLY abseils down to FLYNN who is standing at the bottom.

FLYNN

Perfect. Look at that. You’re a natural.

SALLY

Yeah, nice try. I’m exhausted.

FLYNN

Not to exhausted to eat lunch I hope?

SALLY

No. I’m starving. So, how far is this supposed restaurant?

FLYNN

Not too far. Not too far at all.

SALLY and FLYNN walk over a bridge.

SALLY

Hey, there’s a road right there.

FLYNN

How do you think I got our lunch here?

SALLY

I don’t know whether to hit you or kiss you.

FLYNN

Definitely go for the kiss.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

LEAH and ALF stand at the counter. ALEX walks in.

ALEX

Hey Alf.

ALF

G’day mate.

ALF walks into the kitchen.

ALEX

Hey. Hey sis.

LEAH

Hey.

ALEX

What’s wrong?

LEAH

Oh, nothing. I’m just worried about Shauna, that’s all.

ALEX

Why?

LEAH

Because, she’s had a hard time of it lately, that’s why.

ALEX

Well she asked for it, didn’t she?

LEAH

Alexi, you don’t know anything about the situation. You can’t judge.

ALEX

Aw, is that so. It’s exactly the same deal with Miles and Brodie.

LEAH

Excuse me.

ALEX

Leah, Miles is a mate of mine and he moved in on my ex girlfriend. You don’t do that it.

LEAH

Well I thought you were over Brodie.

ALEX

Well I was trying to convince myself, wasn’t I?

LEAH

Look, I know she broke it off with you, but you did ask for space, OK, and besides you’ve already been with a girl or should I say girls since then so you’ve got no reason to be jealous.

ALEX

Leah, I’m not jealous, OK. I just still like her, that’s all.  You should see her. She’s so happy. It just frustrates me. I should be the one making her happy.

LEAH

Alexi, you made her miserable. It was your own fault, so don’t be expecting sympathy here.

ALEX

All right, so what about some support Leah?

LEAH

I’m sorry. You’ve come to the wrong person. We all told you what a good girl Brodie was and you didn’t want to hear it.

THE LAWSON HOUSE

NOAH and JUDE are there. JUDE is walking on crutches.

NOAH

Are you sure you’re OK?

JUDE

How about I tell you when I’m not OK instead of you asking me every five minutes?

NOAH

All right, here. I’m going to head, but if you need anything.

JUDE

I’ll let you know. So, where are you off to anyway?

NOAH

Ah, just some work I have to do.

JUDE

Well, nice to hear you’re still doing your study.

NOAH

Yeah, right.

JUDE

Don’t tell me you’re going to go work?

NOAH

Yeah, well, there’s a shift I put off so I better get to it then.

JUDE

Noah, you should have got someone else to do it. I thought we’d been through all this. You know, school comes first.

NOAH

There wasn’t time to organise.

JUDE

So, you should have made time. Geez Noah, I thought we had a deal.

NOAH

Calm down all right. I’m doing everything I can. We’re all doing everything we can.

JUDE

We. Who’s we?

NOAH

Me, Seb, Charlotte. In case you missed it, she saved your life. All you’re doing is giving her a hard time.

JUDE

Yeah, well, I’ve got my reasons.

NOAH

I know that. It’s a bummer what happened, but there’s no reason to take out on everyone.

NOAH walks out. JUDE turns the volume on the radio up.

THE BUSH

SALLY and FLYNN are having a picnic.

SALLY

I have to say I think it was worth all the hard work to get here.

FLYNN

What? To get here or get here?

SALLY and FLYNN kiss.

FLYNN

I have to say as much as I like that dress you were wearing I kind of like the overalls.

SALLY

You’ve had too much to drink or we’ve got sunstroke.

FLYNN

Something else completely.

SALLY and FLYNN kiss.

THE LAWSON HOUSE

JUDE is there. The radio is turned up loud. There is a knock on the door. JUDE turns it down and answers the door. CHARLOTTE answers the door.

CHARLOTTE

Good, you turned it down. Can you do that for the next eight hours? That would make me really happy.

JUDE

Ah, sure. Em, do you want to come in?

CHARLOTTE

Is there a problem?

JUDE

Yeah, me.

CHARLOTTE

What’s wrong?

JUDE

I just didn’t have your number.

CHARLOTTE

What?

JUDE

I wanted to apologise.

CHARLOTTE

By waking me up. Well, that’s inventive.

JUDE

Well I couldn’t exactly walk up the stairs.

CHARLOTTE

Fair enough.

JUDE

Look, I wanted to say sorry for the way I’ve been acting. I mean, Noah had a few words to me and made me see sense.  It’s funny. It’s normally the other way around. Me trying to make sense of him.

CHARLOTTE

I’m sure it is.

JUDE

So, do you want a drink of something?

CHARLOTTE

Em.

JUDE

I guess you just want to go straight back to bed.

CHARLOTTE

No, actually. A drink sounds good.

JUDE

Sure.

CHARLOTTE walks in.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

NOAH and BRODIE are there.

NOAH

I wish I knew your secret.

BRODIE

Sorry.

NOAH

You’re so happy. What’s the story?

BRODIE

Oh, I don’t know. Suns out. No school. That sort of thing.

NOAH

Here was me thinking that it could have something to do with some new guy that you are seeing.

BRODIE

Aw, there you go. Could do.

NOAH

Is Alex cool about you two?

BRODIE

What do you mean?

NOAH

The last time I saw him he wasn’t taking it so well.

BRODIE

Did he say something to you?

NOAH

No, not really. It’s just what he wasn’t saying. Playing it a bit too smooth.

BRODIE

Thanks see you later.

BRODIE walks out. HAYLEY walks in.

HAYLEY

Hi.

NOAH

Hey, where were you? Supposed to help me clean earlier.

HAYLEY

Oh, bummer. How’s Jude?

NOAH

Still down in the dumps. Glad to be home, I think.

HAYLEY

And what about you?

NOAH

Soldiering on.

HAYLEY

Would you like a walk when you’re finished your coffee?

NOAH

Yeah, sounds good.

SHAUNA walks in.

NOAH

What’s she doing here?

HAYLEY

Noah, don’t be so angry.

SHAUNA

Noah, I know that you probably don’t want to talk to me.

NOAH

You’re not wrong there.

SHAUNA

But I ,em, just called the hospital and they told me that Jude’s checked himself out.

NOAH

And?

SHAUNA

And he should still be under observation.

NOAH

What does it matter to you?

HAYLEY

Noah.

SHAUNA

Noah, despite what’s happened I still care about Jude, OK.

NOAH

That’s why you stuffed up his life. Because you care so much.

HAYLEY

Noah, just let it go.

NOAH

Tell me she doesn’t deserve him.

SHAUNA

I am worried about him, OK, and I want to go over there and make sure that he is OK. I don’t know. Maybe I can convince him to go back to the hospital.

NOAH

You’re unbelievable. I mean, what could you possibly say that can mean anything to him or to anyone?

SHAUNA

Noah, I’m going over to see him.

NOAH

Don’t you think you’ve already done enough damage. I want you to stay away from him. I mean it.

SHAUNA

That’s not up to you, is it?

SHAUNA walks away.

THE BEACH

MILES and BRODIE walk along the beach.

MILES

How did your assignment go?

BRODIE

Good.

MILES

Don’t sound so convinced. Do you want me to have a look at it for you?

BRODIE

Miles, do you think I’m doing the right thing here?

MILES

I’m confused. Are you talking about the assignment?

BRODIE

No, I’m talking about you and me and Alex.

MILES

And remember what we agreed. There is no Alex between you and me.

BRODIE

Still in denial though for him. You don’t miss Alex even though he is keen about us being together.

MILES

Well, we know that after the Nina debacle.

BRODIE

Maybe we shouldn’t have started this, you know. It’s all so complicated.

MILES

I don’t care about complications. He’s just going to have to learn how to deal with it. We’ve got something special here, don’t you think?

BRODIE

You’re going away and you’re probably going to forget my name in like two weeks or something when you start going off with these backpackers.

MILES

I said, we’ve got something special here, don’t you think?

BRODIE

Yes, I do.

BRODIE and MILES kiss.

BRODIE

But I still think we should talk to Alex.

MILES

OK. I’ll have a word to him later.

HAYLEY and NOAH are walking along the beach.

HAYLEY

I don’t think you need to worry Noah. I really don’t think you need to worry.

NOAH

He’s got a history. I can’t count the number of times he took Holly back.

HAYLEY

He won’t even talk to her and he doesn’t even want her name mentioned when he’s around. There’s no way he’ll take her back.

NOAH

He’s soft. Who knows what he’ll do?

HAYLEY

Just don’t stress about it OK. We’re here for a walk so just enjoy it.

NOAH

Really.

HAYLEY

Yes.

NOAH

I thought you wanted to talk to me about something.

HAYLEY

No. It’s funny, you know. I really loved all the old buildings in England and the history and everything, but I would give up this for anything.

NOAH

Not even Robbie.

HAYLEY

What do you mean?

NOAH

I mean, come on Hayls, I mean, you’ve been pulling this guilt trip thing for days now. It’s pretty obvious that something went on between you two.

HAYLEY

Yeah, well, if you knew why didn’t you say something?

NOAH

I didn’t want to say anything until you were ready to tell me.

HAYLEY

Yeah, but you see, I tried heaps of times, but I just couldn’t seem to find the right moment.

NOAH

Yeah, I know.

HAYLEY

And, what. You’re OK about it?

NOAH

Yeah, I’m OK about it.

THE LAWSON HOUSE

CHARLOTTE and JUDE are there.

CHARLOTTE

The staff think you’re a total legend.

JUDE

Just because I gave that pompous jerk a mouthful. Man, he deserved it big time.

CHARLOTTE

I know. You don’t know what he’s like. No one, I mean no one ever talks back to that guy. He isn’t exactly got a fan club, you know. I remember one day I was in the hospital with Nelson and Carlingford past right. Nelson crawled under the car to hide from him. It was classic.

JUDE

Nelson.

CHARLOTTE

My dog or was my dog until I realised I didn’t have enough time to look after him. No, Steve is my boyfriend. He can’t stand Carlingford either actually. He had him a couple of year back. Apparently Carlingford was even worse then.

JUDE

Aw, well. Sounds like I picked the right guy to chuck a mental at.

CHARLOTTE

You certainly did. Well, I should probably get back to bed. Knowing my luck, he’ll call me in ten minutes time. Not a good look, the walking zombie.

JUDE

Well you can just blame it all on me.

CHARLOTTE

Oh, thanks.

JUDE

It was nice talking to you without getting my blood pressure checked.

CHARLOTTE

Yeah, normal conversations have become a bit of a rareity for me of late. I better get out of that place.

JUDE

Yeah, well you can drop by here anytime. I’m not going anywhere.

There is a knock on the door.

CHARLOTTE

I’ll get it.

CHARLOTTE answers it. SHAUNA is there.

SHAUNA

Hi. I was looking for Jude.

CHARLOTTTE

Aw, Jude.

JUDE

What are you doing here?

SHAUNA

I just wanted to speak to you.

JUDE

We’ve got nothing to talk about.

CHARLOTTE

I’ll see you later Jude. Thanks for the tea.

CHARLOTTE walks out.

SALLY’S HOUSE

FLYNN and SALLY are outside.

FLYNN

So, what’s the verdict?

SALLY

Em, ten out of ten for adventure, ten out of ten for spontaneity, ten out of ten for your wardrobe.

FLYNN

It’s new. I told you that.

SALLY

Yeah, I gathered that, but it’s very different from your normal gear.

FLYNN

I trust you mean that in a good way.

SALLY

Definitely.

FLYNN

So make this ten out of ten. How do I rate?

SALLY

Well it’s a tough question because if I give you ten out of ten then there’s, you know, nowhere to go. No room for improvement.

FLYNN

Well, then lets start low because it’s just going to get better and better. I promise.

FLYNN and SALLY kiss.

SALLY

You think I could deal with that.

FLYNN

I’ll see you tomorrow.

SALLY

OK. Bye.

FLYNN walks away.

THE LAWSON HOUSE

SHAUNA and JUDE are there.

SHAUNA

I just needed to see that you were OK. Noah told me to stay away from you, but I couldn’t not talk to you. It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other.

JUDE

It’s been a while.

SHAUNA

You shouldn’t have discharged yourself like that Jude, but I’m glad the hospital sent someone around to check up on you.

JUDE

She lives upstairs and she wasn’t checking up on me.

SHAUNA

You know, seeing you, it feels strange. It’s been like cold turkey. You know, one minute we’re spending all our time together and then the next minute, nothing.

JUDE

Oh, gee Shauna. How did that happen? You don’t actually believe I’m going to feel sorry for you, do you?

SHAUNA

No, that’s not what I want.

JUDE

Look at me Shauna. You did this to me. Do you think you can come here and say sorry and you’re going to fix all that?

SHAUNA

No.

JUDE

Well what the hell are you doing here?

SHAUNA

I wanted to give you the chance to let me know exactly what you think of me.

JUDE

Get out.

SHAUNA

That’s it.

JUDE

Yeah.

SHAUNA walks out.

THE BEACH HOUSE

NOAH and HAYLEY sit on the couch.

HAYLEY

When you said you were OK about Robbie and everything, did you mean OK we’re not going to talk about it or OK, you’re still trying to figure it out in your head.

NOAH

I guess, eh, OK has many interpretation, doesn’t it?

HAYLEY

Yeah, it does.

NOAH

I’d by lying if I said that you being with Robbie didn’t bother me. I mean I talked to him a couple of times on the phone and he sounded like a pretty nice guy.

HAYLEY

Yeah, he was.

NOAH

So, you had to choose?

HAYLEY

Yeah.

NOAH

And you chose me.

HAYLEY

Yeah.

NOAH

So, OK, I’m cool about it. You are here with me, all right. You didn’t leave anything over there?

HAYLEY

No, I’m right here and it’s the only place I want to be.

NOAH

And one more thing. Next time he calls, can you tell him we’re back together.

HAYLEY

I already did.

THE LAWSON HOUSE

JUDE sits at the table. NOAH walks in. The place has been trashed.

NOAH

Oh, man. She came over, didn’t she?

JUDE

Don’t worry about it. I’m over it. I’ll clear it up.

NOAH

No, it’s all I can do. Nothing like trashing the place to get over a chick.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

BRODIE and MILES are there.

BRODIE

Why are you going to Italy?

MILES

Em, I’m going to Italy so that you’ll have somewhere to stay when you come and visit.

BRODIE

No, you’re going to Italy because you have this amazing ability for languages and that’s your calling.

MILES

Yeah, yeah, that too, but you aren’t going to miss it.

BRODIE

How?

MILES

We’ll make it happen.

BRODIE

Yeah.

MILES

We’ll make it happen. Hey, what’s going on? I had a great time today.

BRODIE

Yeah, so did I.

MILES

Yeah, then how come it’s suddenly all doom and gloom?

BRODIE

Because, because you’re going to Italy and the most beautiful girls in the world come from Italy.

MILES

I’m sitting with the most beautiful girl in the world.

BRODIE

Aw.

MILES

Ah, ah.

MILES and BRODIE cuddle.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

SHAUNA walks in. ALF is there.

ALF

Are you all right love?

SHAUNA

No, not really.

ALF

Why? What’s up?

SHAUNA

I went to see Jude.

ALF

And it didn’t go to well.

SHAUNA

No. You know, I just wanted to talk to him. He could barely even look at me.

ALF

Love, you did the right thing going to see him face to face. If he doesn’t want to know, then there’s nothing much you can do.

SHAUNA

Yeah, I just feel like I’ve made things a thousand times worse, that’s all.

MILES walks in. ALEX is sitting at a table.

ALEX

Hey, I thought you were on a hot date with Brodie?

MILES

Yeah, I was.

ALEX

Well, what happened? Did you have a lovers tiff?

MILES

Drop it Alex. I’m not in the mood.

ALEX

Come on Miles. It’s me. You’re supposed to be a mate. You can tell me. What happened? Did she give you the flick? Maybe she got bored. I mean, you can only deal with so much moon gazing at Stewart’s point, eh.

MILES

Leave it Alex.

ALEX

I knew it wouldn’t last dude. Not your kind of girl.

MILES pushes ALEX.

MILES

Just leave it.

ALEX

Hey, take it easy.

ALF and LEAH walk out the kitchen.

LEAH

Hey.

ALF

Hey.

LEAH

Alexi, Miles. Miles, stop it.

MILES

You’re a loser Alex. If you think this whole jealousy thing’s going to win Brodie back you’ve got no idea. You don’t know Brodie at all. You never did.
