Scripts - Episode 3136

THE BEACH HOUSE

WILL and IRENE stand at the window in the kitchen.

IRENE

Come on love. I’m sure she didn’t mean it.

WILL

You weren’t there Irene. She hates me. She doesn’t want me anywhere near the kid.

WILL and IRENE walk into the living room.

IRENE

She doesn’t hate you at all Will. She’s stressed and she’s worried and she’s trying to cope on her own.

WILL

OK, so, I go over there, offer support and all she tells me is to stick it. Makes a lot of sense Irene.

IRENE

Love, emotions are running high at the moment. Once things have settled down.

WILL

She’s got this idea that I’m not going to be there for the kid. That I’m going to put Dani first. She should know better than that. I know what it’s like not to have a father around and there is no way I’m going to do that to my own kid.

IRENE

Well, you know Will I don’t think you’re going to have much say in it. Not if that’s what Gypsy wants.

WILL

Well, what about what I want? Don’t I have any rights?

IRENE

Darl, you know what she’s like. You get heavy with her, she’ll dig her heels in.

WILL

Look, every kids parents aren’t living together. Most of them don’t, you know what I mean? And it doesn’t mean the kid can’t have a relationship with both of them.

IRENE

I’m sure you guys will work things out given time love.

WILL

Yeah, well, I’m not going to wait around to find out what she decides.

IRENE

What are you doing?

WILL

I’m going to find out what my rights are.

IRENE

Aw, do you think that’s wise Will? Getting yourself involved with lawyers.

WILL

Relax Irene. I only want to find out where I stand.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

SALLY and LEAH are sitting at a table.

LEAH

So, have you heard from Gyps? Is everything all right?

SALLY

Well I think they caught it early enough that the blood pressure thing can be managed.

COLLEEN is standing behind the counter listening to the conversation between SALLY and LEAH.

LEAH

Aw, poor thing. It’s the last thing she needs right now.

COLLEEN

Everything happens for a reason though, doesn’t it. Maybe it’s just what she needs to knock a bit of sense into her.

LEAH stands up and walks over to COLLEEN.

LEAH

Excuse me Colleen, but didn’t Alf tell you to, em, not talk behind Gypsy’s back.

COLLEEN

Well, you were talking about her too.

LEAH

We were worrying about her as friends.

COLLEEN

Well if the truths unpleasant that’s hardly my fault.

LEAH

Colleen, the only thing unpleasant around here is your gossip. Now unless you want to attract bad karma and besides, it’s not like Gypsy got pregnant on her own. She didn’t force Will to be the father of the child.

FLYNN walks in.

FLYNN

Does anyone feel like buying me a coffee?

LEAH

Hey.

SALLY

Hey Flynn, you’re back. How did it go?

FLYNN and SALLY kiss.

FLYNN

Ah, worked me to the bone. Never going to complain about our drop-in centre again. Prepared to the one in the city, it’s a walk in the park. Did I miss you or what?

COLLEEN walks around and grabs FLYNN by the arm. SALLY follows

COLLEEN

Dr. Saunders, how lovely to see you. Come over here and sit down.

COLLEEN makes FLYNN sit down at a table.

COLLEEN

Now what can I get you? A coffee and mud cake with a double dollop of cream or maybe not the cream, you being a doctor and all.

FLYNN

No, no, creams fine.

COLLEEN

Oh, I had a feeling you’d be a cream person.

COLLEEN walks away and ALF walks over to them.

ALF

Well, well, well, look who it is. Put it there mate. I believe it was lucky for young Jude you were on the spot.

FLYNN

Aw, yeah, how is he?

LEAH

Vinnie went round to see him. He’s fine. He’s a bit down, but rest should make it better.

SALLY

The main thing is he’s going to be OK thanks to you.

ALF

Yeah.

LEAH

Anyway, we might leave you to it. Alf.

ALF

Ay.

LEAH

Come on.

ALF

Oh, yeah. All right.

LEAH and ALF walk away.

FLYNN

What was that?

SALLY

I think it was the first meeting of the Flynn Saunders Admiration Society. Didn’t I tell you I’m the president.

FLYNN

Now I like the sounds of that.

SALLY and FLYNN kiss.

SALLY

So, what are you up to for the rest of the afternoon? I don’t suppose you’d like to come over?

FLYNN

You know, I would, but I’ll be like, you know, get home before I fall asleep, just go to bed. But, you know, I’m free tomorrow tonight.

THE HOSPITAL

GYPSY is on the bed. SHAUNA is there. SHAUNA is giving GYPSY a present.

SHAUNA

I thought they might help. There supposed to be good for relaxing.

GYPSY

Thanks, you didn’t have to do that.

SHAUNA

I know. Anyway, em, I wasn’t sure that you’d even want to see me.

GYPSY

Why wouldn’t I want to see you?

SHAUNA

Well, everyone else is avoiding me around here like the plague.

GYPSY

I’m hardly in the position to give anybody a lecture.

SHAUNA

So, em, have you seen Jude? Is he all right?

GYPSY

Physically he’s going to be fine. Emotionally, em, I’d be lying if I said he was anything, but devastated.

SHAUNA

You know, he wouldn’t even see me. It’s nothing I don’t deserve, I suppose.

GYPSY

Shauna, you made a mistake.

SHAUNA

Just as well I guess. I mean, he deserves better than me. You know, I still don’t understand what got into me. I mean, one minute, I am so in love with Jude and then the next minute, Flynn walks into my life and I can’t get him out of my head.

GYPSY

Yeah, I know what it’s like.

SHAUNA

It’s bad enough that I lost Jude and now I’ve lost Sal too. I’d do anything to make it up to them both.

GYPSY

Shauna, you’re going to have to get over it. There are some mistakes, they just can’t be fixed. Trust me, I know. I know you don’t want to hear this right now, but you’re going to have to learn to live with this.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

SIMONE and SHELLEY are dragging a mattress through to the bedroom.

SIMONE

I bet this is the last place you wanted to be tonight. Hanging around with me.

SHELLEY

Huh, not at all. At least I get to have a bed to myself for a night.

SIMONE

Yeah. You must be pretty stoked about that donation, huh. I mean, now you can stay open, right?

SHELLEY

That’s the plan.

SIMONE

You deserve it. You put so much energy into this place it’s amazing.

SHELLEY

Is it just for tonight that you mums out of town?

SIMONE

Yeah. Sorry I’m being so weird about the whole thing. I just couldn’t stand being over at my dads while his girlfriends there.

SHELLEY

I understand.

SIMONE

It’s so gross. He likes twice her age.

SHELLEY

Maybe they have a lot in common.

SIMONE

Aw, I just wish he’d get over it. Stop pretending he’s twenty again.

There’s a knock on the door. SEB is there.

SEB

Hey, too late for a visit?

SHELLEY

Aw, we are closed, but you can stay for a few minutes.

The phone rings. SHELLEY walks through to answer the phone. SEB walks in.

SEB

So, how’s it going?

SIMONE

Pretty good. Mrs Sutherland’s way cool.

SEB

Yeah.

SIMONE

What are you doing here anyway? Checking up on me.

SEB

Well, that’s what friends are for, isn’t it?

SHELLEY

Seb, could you do me a favour?

SEB

Sure.

SHELLEY

Well, actually it’s for Jade.

SHELLEY walks through.

SHELLEY

That’s her on the phone and she desperately needs this disc. Would you be able to drop it over for me?

SEB

Yeah, no worries. I was going to go see Kirsty anyway.

SHELLEY

Great, she owes you.

SHELLEY walks away.

SEB

Are you all right?

SIMONE

Yeah, sure.

SALLY’S HOUSE

SALLY carries a bowl through to the living room. LEAH puts a video on.

SALLY

So, what’s the video?

LEAH

The Mexican. I have no idea what it’s about, but it’s got Brad Pitt in it.

SALLY

Aw, that’s good enough for me. Thanks a lot for coming over tonight.

LEAH

Aw, no worries. So, it must be pretty tense around here, hey. Come on Sal, I know you don’t want to spend time with Shauna.

SALLY

You know, I don’t know. I’ve tried to be understanding about her, I really have, but every time I do I just can’t get past it. She was my friend and she tried to come onto Flynn. She was prepared to do that to me.

SHAUNA walks in.

LEAH

Hey.

SHAUNA

Hey. Em, sorry, I’ll just be in my room.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

JADE is sitting on the couch. SEB comes to the door.

SEB

Special delivery.

JADE gets up and runs toward SEB.

JADE

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. You totally saved my life.

JADE runs over to the computer which KIRSTY is on.

JADE

Get off, get off.

KIRSTY

OK, chill.

KIRSTY gets off the computer and lets JADE on.

SEB

How’s it going?

KIRSTY

Good. How are you?

SEB

I’m in OK. I’m still having a bit of trouble facing Flynn.

KIRSTY

Why?

KIRSTY and SEB sit down.

SEB

Are you serious? After what I said about him and Shauna.

KIRSTY

Yeah, but you didn’t know.

SEB

I still can’t believe she could be so two faced. I hope she gets everything she deserves.

KIRSTY

That’s a bit full-on.

SEB

You reckon? After what she did to Jude?

KIRSTY

Seb, she fell in love with someone else. It happens.

SEB

She was engaged to Jude. There’s no excuse for what she did.

SALLY’S HOUSE

LEAH and SALLY walk through to the kitchen. SHAUNA is already in the kitchen.

LEAH

Aw, my god, I love him.

SALLY

Excuse me, Mrs Patterson. I don’t think that’s appropriate talk for a married woman, do you?

LEAH

No, no, I guess not, but it’s true.

SALLY

Yeah, well at least you know the difference between reality and fantasy.

SALLY walks out the kitchen.

LEAH

You all right?

SHAUNA

Yeah, yep, apart from the fact my whole life has fallen apart and everyone that I care about hates me, yeah, I’m fine.

LEAH

Aw, come here.

SHAUNA and LEAH cuddle.

LEAH

I won’t pretend to understand why you did it, but I definitely do not hate you.

SALLY walks through.

LEAH

Well, I guess I should get going before Vinnie worries.

SALLY

Thanks for the video.

LEAH

That’s all right.

SALLY and LEAH cuddle.

SALLY

See you.

LEAH

I’ll see you tomorrow, OK.

SALLY

OK.

LEAH

Bye.

SHAUNA

Bye.

LEAH leaves.

SHAUNA

You know, you could at least acknowledge that I’m here.

SALLY

So you’re here.

SHAUNA

Sal, I know things will never be the same between us, but.

SALLY

That’s putting it mildly.

SHAUNA

If you would just let me say.

SALLY

Apart from the fact that Jude’s my friend, you tried to sabotage the one thing that was making me happy.

SHAUNA

I didn’t do it to hurt you.

SALLY

Really. You knew what a mess I was over Kieran and you were asking Flynn to cheat on me just like he did. Sorry Shauna, nothing will ever make up for what you’ve done for me.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

JADE is sitting at the computer. KIRSTY walks up to her.

KIRSTY

Have you seen my ruler? Hello, anyone home?

JADE

What do you think I should say to Nick tomorrow?

KIRSTY

Aw, my god. Jade, how many times have I told you this? Why don’t you just say to him thank you for the postcard?

KIRSTY walks away. DANI is sitting at the table on the veranda. There is a candle burning on the table. RHYS walks through from the kitchen carrying two cups. He sits down at the table

RHYS

I thought you might like one of these.

DANI

Thanks.

RHYS

Don’t tell the others. I’ll be accused of favouritism. So, eh, how did Will and Gypsy go to today?

DANI

Not good. She told him she doesn’t want him in the babies life.

RHYS

That’s big. Did you talk about you guys? Sweetheart, don’t you think that you should tell him that you’re having doubts?

DANI

I can’t dad. I said I’d give us a go and I haven’t done that yet. I can’t say one thing one minute and then go back on it the next.

RHYS

Darling, at your age you shouldn’t be worrying about making a relationship work. Relationships at your age should be fun.

DANI

I know dad, but we’ve been through too much.

RHYS

But if it’s such hard work, maybe then that’s a sign that you should let go.

DANI

I don’t know. It’s what I’ve got to figure out.

RHYS

Dan, you’ve got your whole life ahead of you and that’s a very long time to spend in a relationship that’s a compromise. Now, I know, it might sound like I’m telling you to be selfish. Well right now I’m not going to apologise for that, but at the moment the only person that you need to worry about is.

THE HOSPITAL

FLYNN walks in. JUDE is lying on the bed.

FLYNN

You’re looking a little bit better than the last time I saw you.

JUDE

Yeah. Aw, I guess I should thank you.

FLYNN

By the way, Charlotte did all the hard work. You can thank her. Was a little bit touch and go there for a while, mate.

JUDE

Yeah, so they tell me. Look, I wanted to apologise about that other stuff too.

FLYNN

Forget about it.

JUDE

I just didn’t want to believe Shauna would do that to me.

FLYNN

You needed someone to blame. I understand that. I don’t suppose you’ve talked to her about it?

JUDE

Ah, no, no. it’s better this way.

There is a knock at the door. SEB walks in.

JUDE

Seb. What are you doing here?

SEB

I’m just checking up on you. Flynn.

JUDE

Grab a seat. Pull it up.

FLYNN

I might leave you guys to it then.

JUDE

Yeah, thanks for coming in it mate.

FLYNN

Yeah, no worries.

FLYNN leaves and CHARLOTTE walks in.

CHARLOTTE

Oh, it’s like Central Station in here. Visiting hours don’t actually start for another hour.

JUDE

Yeah, well he’s got to go school later. Can’t you just bend the rules a little bit?

CHARLOTTE

Wasn’t going to kick him out Jude.

JUDE

Aw, that’s very big of you.

CHARLOTTE

How’s your leg?

JUDE

Sore.

CHARLOTTE

Wiggle your toes for me.

CHARLOTTE touches JUDE’S toes.

JUDE

Ahl. How are things with you guys at home? Are you all right?

SEB

Yeah, sure.

JUDE

What did you have for dinner last night?

SEB

Take out.

CHARLOTTE

Breathe for me please. Nice and slowly. In. That’s sounding much better.

JUDE

Maybe you guys should, em,  go shopping. I mean, you can’t have takeaway every night. We can’t afford it.

SEB

Why not? Don’t worry, it’s under control.

CHARLOTTE

OK, I think that tube can come out tomorrow.

JUDE

Ah, is that really necessary.

CHARLOTTE

How about I come back?

JUDE

Yeah, good idea.

CHARLOTTE walks out the room.

JUDE

Sorry mate.

SEB

No, it’s all right.

THE BEACH HOUSE

WILL is sitting on a chair putting his shoes on. IRENE walks through from the kitchen and sits at the table.

IRENE

So, have you had a rethink about going to see this lawyer.

WILL

Nut, I’m still going to find out what my rights are.

NICK walks through to the living room.

NICK

Rights for what?

IRENE

Mind your own beeswax. Oh, please tell me you’re going to iron that.

NICK

What for?

WILL

Right, I’m off to Yabbie Creek. Do you want anything?

IRENE

What are you going there for?

WILL

I want to buy something for Dani.

NICK

Do some serious sucking, eh.

WILL

Well, do you blame me after what’s happened lately.

NICK

No, I just think it’s a miracle that she took it back.

WILL

For once in your life Nicholas, I think you’re right.

WILL walks away. NICK sits at the table.

THE HOSPITAL

GYPSY is lying on the bed. CHARLOTTTE is there.

CHARLOTTE

Bed rest has helped. Your blood pressure much better.

GYPSY

Does that mean I can go home?

CHARLOTTE

I think so provided that you keep up the resting.

GYPSY

Excellent, I’ve been bored out my brain here.

GYPSY gets out the bed. CHARLOTTE yawns.

CHARLOTTE

Ah, double shift. I’ve been covering for Dr. Wilson.

COLLEEN walks in.

COLLEEN

Yoo hoo. Only me.

CHARLOTTE

Oh, lucky you, a visitor.

GYPSY

I wouldn’t be so sure of that.

COLLEEN

Hello love. How are you feeling?

GYPSY

What do you want Colleen?

COLLEEN

Oh, well, I just thought I’d bring you a little something to let you know we’re all thinking of you.

GYPSY

You can drop the nice as pie act. What do you really want? More gossip to spread around.

COLLEEN

Ah, well, I suppose I really deserve that, but that’s also why I am here. I’ve come to apologise.

GYPSY

Is that right?

COLLEEN

Yes, yes and while I, em, never meant to unduly upset you by anything that I might have said I’d be sorry to think that I’ve contributed to your ill health in any way.

GYPSY

Leah had a work to you.

COLLEEN

Oh, no, no, no. I’m here off my own bat. Oh, well she might have had a quick word, but apart from that it’s all my own idea.

GYPSY

Colleen, that’s really sweet. Anyone would think you actually meant it. Can you please go away? Look, I don’t need you, I don’t need your cake and I don’t need your two-faced apology and don’t flatter yourself by thinking you put me in here. I’ve got far more important things to worry about than you.

COLLEEN leaves.

SUMMER BAY HIGH

NICK walks into a classroom in his gym kit. JADE and KIRSTY are there.

KIRSTY

Why don’t you say something to him?

JADE

I can’t.

KIRSTY

Jade, you are so hopeless.

SHAUNA walks in.

SHAUNA

OK, pay attention, please, everyone. Before we go outside I just wanted to mention that tomorrow’s mufti day so that mean you come dressed for comfort, OK.

SEB walks into the classroom.

SEB

Sorry I’m late. I’ve got a friend in hospital. He’s in real bad way. I couldn’t leave him on his own. You know how it is.

SHAUNA

Yeah, of course. It’s fine.

SEB walks over to JADE, KIRSTY and SIMONE.

SEB

Hey guys. Hey Simone, how did you sleep?

SIMONE

Yeah good.

The class begins to walk out the room.

SHAUNA

Quietly please.

NICK walks over to KIRSTY.

NICK

Since when did they become buddies?

NICK walks out the room.

THE HOSPITAL

JUDE is sitting on a chair. There is a NURSE there.

NURSE

I’ll fix up these pillows and will be as bright as rain.

DR CARLINGFORD walks in with several trainee doctors.

DR CARLINGFORD

Ah, this patient. Motor cycle accident victim. Attended to emergency with severe soft tissue damage to the right, a left sided neumothorax and a ruptured spleen. You are the doctor on call. What’s the first thing you’d do?

DOCTOR

I’d check the fractures.

DR CARLINGFORD

I see, so now he has a nice splint on. Meanwhile unfortunately he’s bled to death.

CHARLOTTE walks in.

DR CARLINGFORD

You.

CHARLOTTE

Yes sir.

DR CARLINGFORD

Well, quickly, he’s turning blue. His life’s is ebbing away with only seconds to live. What would you do?

CHARLOTTE

Oh, um.

DR CARLINGFORD

Oh, um. Have you been listening to a word I’ve said?

CHARLOTTE

I’m sorry.

DR CARLINGFORD

Yes. Well I’m sure his relatives will be glad to hear that when you tell them that he didn’t make it.

CHARLOTTE

I’m very sorry Dr. Carlingford. I’ve been covering Dr. Wilson and I lost track off time.

DR CARLINGFORD

I don’t think you quite get the point doctor. There are no excuses when you’re dealing with life and death.

JUDE

Excuse me, Dr. Carlingford.

DR CARLINGFORD

Yes, what is it?

JUDE

I know you’re very important and everything, but you realise you’re not actually god.

DR CALINGFORD walks out the room.

SUMMER BAY HIGH

NICK ties his shoelace in the school fields. JADE and KIRSTY are walking along. JADE walks over to NICK.

JADE

I got your postcard. Thanks.

NICK

Pity you needed the proof before you believed me.

NICK walks away from JADE. SIMONE and SEB are standing together. SHAUNA is also out with them.

SHAUNA

OK, first we need to split up in to two team. Seb, when you’re ready.

SEB

Actually I’m not, but I’ll let you know when I am.

SHAUNA

Very funny. Right, we need to pick two captains. Seb, if you’re not interested could  you at least keep it down.

SIMONE

Might be if we didn’t have this looser as a teacher.

SHAUNA

Right, that’s it. Go inside and wait for Mr. Fisher, now.

SEB and SIMONE walk away.

SHAUNA

Right, does anybody else have anything to say before we start.

DON, SIMONE and SEB stand outside.

DON

So I expect to see you both in detention.

SIMONE

Can I go now?

DON

Yes, Simone you can.

SIMONE walks away.

DON

And as for you. Need I remind you, that the school is not the proper place to air your personal grievances.

SEB

I was only stirring.

DON

Oh, really. Well whatever you might feel about Miss Bradley in private when you’re at school she’s your teacher and she’s entitled to be treated accordingly. You broke that rule and I’m obliged now to treat you as I would any other student here. I hope you understand that.

SEB

Yes Sir.

DON

So, for your outburst this morning I’m giving you one weeks detention.

SEB

Fair enough.

DON

And if it happens again I’ll have to consider a more serious course of action. Is that clear?

SEB

Totally.

DON

Right, well you can go now.

SEB walks away.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

SHAUNA sits at a table. KIRSTY walks in.

KIRSTY

Hi.

SHAUNA

Hi.

KIRSTY

Em, I just want to say I think today, what Seb and Simone did was really immature.

SHAUNA

Yes, it was.

KIRSTY

Not everyone’s out to give you a hard time.

SHAUNA

Thanks.

KIRSTY

And I also want to say, I know about the accident and I know it wasn’t your fault and I still think you’re ace.

KIRSTY walks out. ALF walks over to the table where SHAUNA is sitting.

ALF

There you go love. Get that into you.

SHAUNA

Aw, thanks. I’m not really that hungry.

ALF

Aw, you look like you could use a good feed.

SHAUNA

So, em, I suppose you’ve heard about everything then.

ALF

Uh, you don’t have to explain yourself to me. I’m just here for you.

ALF sits down next to SHAUNA.

ALF

That’s what families are for, isn’t it? And if you need somewhere to sleep for a while you’re very welcome here.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

WILL puts a jewellery box on the table on the veranda. DANI is also sitting there.

WILL

I got you a present.

DANI

A present. What for.

WILL

I don’t know. I just felt like it.

DANI opens the jewellery box. It is a necklace.

DANI

Will, that would have cost you.

WILL

Don’t worry. Just put it on, OK.

WILL puts the necklace on DANI.

WILL

Can you move your hair.

DANI

Yeah.

KIRSTY walks in and through to the kitchen. JADE and SEB are sitting at the table.

SEB

What happened to you? I thought we were going to have lunch.

KIRSTY

I had something to do.

SEB stands up and walks through to the kitchen.

SEB

What’s with the attitude?

KIRSTY

What?

SEB

As if you don’t know.

KIRSTY

Well in case you hadn’t noticed, Shauna is my friend.

SEB

And Jude’s my mate.

KIRSTY

Aw, what? You think you’re doing him a favour acting like a ten year old, do you?

SEB

If someone treats my mate like dirt I treat them the same way.

KIRSTY

So what about your little sidekick, uh. What’s her excuse?

SEB

So that’s what this is really about.

KIRSTY

Aw, please.

SEB

You’ve got nothing to be jealous about.

KIRSTY

I am not jealous of that little loser, OK.

SEB

Simone is not a loser.

KIRSTY

Aw my gosh. I don’t even know why you hang out with her for. Simone is such a total non event.

JADE

She’s not that bad.

SEB

Forget it. I’m out of here.

KIRSTY

Typical.

SEB

Actually, I just don’t like being told who I can and can’t hang out with and at the moment I’m exercising my right to choose.

SEB walks out.

SALLY’S HOUSE

LEAH walks through to the living room carrying a bowl. SALLY and GYPSY are sitting on the couch.

LEAH

Well, here’s my special pumpkin soup with a bit of coriander and a touch of yoghurt.

LEAH hands the bowl to GYPSY.

GYPSY

Thank you.

SALLY

Do you want us to move the tele into your room and then you can relax in there?

GYPSY

Enough of the fussing. I could start getting used to it.

SHAUNA walks in.

GYPSY

Oh, hey, you must be here for my foot massage?

SHAUNA

Eh, no actually. I came to talk to Sally.

LEAH

Oh, yeah, well we’re go then.

SHAUNA

No, no, no, it’s OK. I know things have been really tense around here and I know there is nothing I can say to make up for what happened so I just wanted to let you know I’m moving out.

SALLY

OK. What? Are you waiting for a thank you?

SHAUNA

No, I just.

SALLY

If you think this is going to get you a sympathy vote Shauna, then forget it. As far as I’m concerned, this is the best idea you’ve had yet.
