Scripts - Episode 3135

THE HOSPITAL

JUDE is lying on the bed. CHARLOTTE is there.

CHARLOTTE

Well, things are looking good. Looks like we’d be able to remove those drains in the next day or so. I’ll just take a look at your wound.

JUDE

They did that already.

CHARLOTTE

Oh, you know this place. Everything’s got to be checked and double checked. That’s looking great. Don’t blame you. You must be getting sick of corn flakes by now. I think we can start you on something more substantial. We can’t have you starving to death, can we?

JUDE

Well that doesn’t sound like such a bad option.

CHARLOTTE

Jude, I don’t know what’s going on exactly, but surely it can’t be that bad. Then again, you do have me as your doctor. That was meant to be a joke.

JUDE

You don’t know anything about me.

CHARLOTTE

What I do know is that you came very close to not making it and you pulled through. I’d say that’s something to be happy about.

JUDE

Why don’t you just take my temperature or whatever it is you do and then get going? Save your Polly Anna routine for someone who really cares.

CHARLOTTE

Well, you know where the buzzer is if you need anything.

JUDE

Yeah, there is one thing. Can you put a do not disturb sign on the door. I’m not really in the mood for chirpy visitors.

CHARLOTTE

I can see what I can do.

THE BEACH HOUSE

DANI and WILL are there.

WILL

So, what made you change your mind?

DANI

Well, you did. I have been so miserable without you Will and I don’t know if this is the most stupid thing I’ve ever done in my life, but I know that if we don’t at least try I’m going to spend the rest of my life wondering what would happen if we did.

WILL

So, you still want to be with me after everything that’s happened?

DANI

I have missed you so much.

DANI and WILL cuddle.

WILL

Me too.

SALLY’S HOUSE

GYPSY is in the kitchen. There is a knock at the door. It is IRENE.

GYPSY

Irene, hi.

IRENE

G’day Gyps.

GYPSY

Sorry, I wasn’t expecting you. Come in. Sit down.

IRENE

Love, I won’t stay. I just dropped by quickly as a favour.

GYPSY

Favour.

IRENE

Yeah, for Will. He won’t be around for a while. He asked me to let you know.

GYPSY

Why?

IRENE

Eh, well. Dani came by. It was unexpected.

GYPSY

Sounds like they’re sorting stuff out.

IRENE

It’s what he wants love.

GYPSY

Yeah, whatever. You know, he can do what he likes. It’s not like we have anything important to discuss.

IRENE

Love, it’s really awkward for him.

GYPSY

Yeah, I knew it would be like this. He’s not in a position to make his baby his priority. My baby doesn’t need this neither.

THE HOSPITAL

JUDE is on the bed. SEB is there.

SEB

I thought they weren’t going to let me in again. Lucky, Doc Adams was out there. Said you could use a bit of cheering up.

JUDE

Yeah, good on her.

SEB

You know she lives upstairs from us. She’s the old ladies granddaughter. The one who always tells us to turn the music down. I borrowed you a book from the library. It’s famous Australian murder trials or something.

SEB gives JUDE the book.

SEB

I thought it looked interesting. Noah will be in later with Hayley. You know, they’re back on together.

JUDE

Yeah. Well there’s some good news. One brothers relationships hits the dust and the other one rises from the ashes.

SEB

Sorry. Fisher said to say hello. He invited me to stay with him. I told him no.

JUDE

What did you do that for?

SEB

I thought it would be good if I was there when you got home.

JUDE

Seb, in case you hadn’t noticed I’m not taking that crash well. Maybe it’s best if you go stay with Fisher. It’s not going to be a barrel of laughs when I get home.

SEB

I don’t mind. I want to help. I owe you.

JUDE

What for?

SEB

Well, if I didn’t tell Noah about Shauna and Flynn none of this might have happened.

JUDE

Forget it, you did me a favour. Man, I’ve got a shocker of headache. Do you mind?

SEB

No, it’s OK.

SEB walks out the room.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

SHELLEY is sitting at the table. RHYS is also there.

SHELLEY

We’re running out of time. The builders in today. I haven’t got a clue how I’m going to pay him.

RHYS

Ah, well, ask him for a deferred payment. I mean, it happens all the time.

SHELLEY

Yeah, I semi broached it with him already and he didn’t sound keen.

JADE and KIRSTY are sitting on the couch.

JADE

Can we help?

SHELLEY

If you could.

KIRSTY

Well, mum, maybe we can organise like a working bee or something.

JADE

Yeah, we could get everyone to help out.

SHELLEY

Yeah, that’s very thoughtful of you, but it’s going to take a lot more than that to solve this.

RHYS

Now, hang on, don’t go looking a gift horse in the mouth. There must be something they can do.

KIRSTY

Yeah, maybe we could do some painting or something.

JADE

Or we could move stuff.

SHELLEY

Yeah, well I suppose the furniture does have to be moved so the pest control man can dust the corners.

RHYS

See.

JADE

Excellent. We’ll get everything together.

KIRSTY

This so beats doing homework.

JADE and KIRSTY stands up and walk towards the door. DANI and WILL walk in.

KIRSTY

Hi.

JADE

Hi.

KIRSTY & JADE

So this means you two.

DANI

See you guys.

JADE and KIRSTY leave.

DANI

Good, you’re both here.

WILL

Rhys, Shelley, can we talk to you.

SHELLEY

Yeah, course. What’s going on?

RHYS

I think I better sit down for this one.

RHYS sits down.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

VINNIE is sitting at a table laughing. GYPSY stands at the counter.

GYPSY

Hey Vinnie. How did the ultrasound go?

VINNIE

Oh, yeah, sweet as. Ah, not that you could see much. The little boy is too big these days. You only get to see bits of him at once. Mind you, some bits are pretty damm clear. Takes after his old man in that department.

ALF is behind the counter. He laughs.

ALF

Come on Vinnie, it’s probably the umbilical chord.

GYPSY

Too much information.

ALF

So you’re all clear for the run home to the judge, eh?

VINNIE

You better believe it.

GYPSY

Well I’ve got my ultrasound this afternoon so wish me luck.

VINNIE

Hey, you’ll be fine, I’m sure. All I’ll tell you a little trick. Turn up the volume and you listen to the heartbeat. The little babies bass.

VINNIE walks out the diner.

GYPSY

Aw, Leah’s so lucky to have him.

COLLEEN walks up to ALF and GYPSY.

COLLEEN

Lucks got nothing to do with it. You get what you deserve if you ask me.

GYPSY

No, Colleen, tell me what you really think, thanks.

ALF

No worries love.

GYPSY walks out the diner. ALF follows COLLEEN into the kitchen.

ALF

If I ever hear you speak to a customer like that again you’ll be out of here so fast your feet won’t touch the ground, you understand.

COLLEEN

Well what do you expect. She’s a braising hussy. Causing all that trouble for poor Will and Dani.

ALF

Gypsy’s got enough trouble of her own without you adding. Now, not another word to her face or otherwise, you got it.

ALF walks out the kitchen.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

RHYS, SHELLEY, WILL and DANI all sit around the table.

SHELLEY

Nobody doubts your commitment Will, but whatever arrangement you have with Gypsy will affect Dani.

RHYS

What have you and Gypsy arranged?

WILL

Em, I haven’t got that far yet. Look, all I know is that I’m not going to turn my back away from this child. It’s my responsibility and I want this kid to grow up knowing how his father is and I want to stay with Dan as well.

DANI

And I want to be with Will.

WILL

And we think it’s possible to find a way.

SHELLEY

I hope Gypsy feels the same way.

DANI

She’s probably at home now.

WILL

Yeah.

DANI

Em, maybe you should go see her.

WILL stands up.

WILL

And look, you don’t have to worry. I’m going to do the right thing by Dan, I promise.

WILL and DANI walk outside.

DANI

Tell me how it goes, OK.

WILL

Yeah.

DANI and WILL kiss. WILL walks away. DANI walks back inside.

DANI

I know what I’m doing, OK.

SHELLEY

Do you?

RHYS

Sweetheart, your mums right. I mean things have changed, it’s not just you and Will anymore. You’re going to have share him with a child and to a lesser extent with Gypsy.

DANI

Don’t you think I know that dad.

SHELLEY

You should be enjoying yourself at your age. This is forcing you to grow up way to fast.

DANI

Mum, I’ve already did a lot of growing up and what I know is that I love Will and with deal with whatever it involves because I’m not ready to lose him.

SHELLEY

Oh, Dani, please listen.

RHYS

I reckon Will’s handled this pretty well. I know it takes a lot of guts not to walk away and I don’t think your walking into this with your eyes closed either. If it’s what you really want, I reckon you should give it a go.

DANI

Thanks dad.

THE BEACH

GYPSY is leaning against a fence. ALF walks down towards her.

ALF

Gyps, Gyps.

GYPSY

Sorry, I was a million miles away.

ALF

I just wanted to apologise for what Colleen said before. She was way out of line as usual and I told her, but I want to let you know, if there’s ever anything you want, all you’ve got to do is ask.

GYPSY

Thanks, that’s sweet.

ALF

I know exactly what you’re going through. You see, my daughter Roo was in the same predicament a while back.

GYPSY

Really, I didn’t know that.

ALF

My biggest regret was that I wasn’t there to help her through it all. I didn’t give a damm about the father, but I did want to be there for my grandchild and you know, I bet my last dollar that Natalie and Joel will be exactly the same.

GYPSY

Maybe.

ALF

No, they would for sure. It’s good to be around your father when, well when your lives a bit mixed up. There support can make a world of difference.

GYPSY

And you don’t think Will should be supportive in this.

ALF

No, no, no, that’s not what I’m saying, but he does have other things in his life.

GYPSY

No, you’re right Alf. Why muck up everybody’s future?

GYPSY walks away.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

SHELLEY and a BUILDER are in the kitchen.

SHELLEY

So, what’s the verdict? Is it as bad as I think.

BUILDER

Yes and no. I can do the job and have it finished by your deadline.

SHELLEY

But.

BUILDER

But, there’s no way I can do a deferred payment. You know, I can’t run the risk of you guys not having at the money at the end of the job.

SHELLEY

Yeah, sure.

BUILDER

Look, I’m really sorry. You know, Les had told me what you guys do here. It’s fantastic.

SHELLEY

Well, thanks a lot and I’ll let you know what we decide.

BUILDER

OK,  take care.

The BUILDER walks out. SIMONE walks in.

SIMONE

Hi Mrs Sutherland.

SHELLEY

Hey Simone.

SIMONE

I came to see if I could help.

SHELLEY

Well, you’ll have to ask Kirsty and Jade. There the ones in charge.

SHELLEY walks away. SIMONE walks into the bedroom. JADE and KIRSTY are there.

SIMONE

Hi guys.

KIRSTY

What are you doing here?

SIMONE

I came to see if I could help.

JADE

That’s nice.

KIRSTY

But we don’t need any.

SEB walks in.

SIMONE

There must be something I can do.

KIRSTY

You could try leaving.

SIMONE

What did you say?

SEB

There’s another bunk bed to pull apart. You could give me a hand.

SIMONE

Yeah, sure. Love to.

SEB and SIMONE walk out the room.

KIRSTY

As if she came to help.

JADE

I wouldn’t let her and Seb out of your sight if I was you.

THE BEACH HOUSE

IRENE is hoovering. WILL walks in.

IRENE

Oh, there you are.

IRENE switches the hoover off.

IRENE

I was wondering where you’d got to. Did you get a chance to talk to Gypsy yet?

WILL

Yeah, I went round to the house, but no one was there. How about you? Did you have any luck?

IRENE

So to speak.

WILL

Oh, thanks for that.

IRENE

Well don’t get too excited mate. I wouldn’t expect a particularly warm hello when you do finally catch up with her.

WILL

How come?

IRENE

Well, she wasn’t too impressed to find out why you’d stood her up.

WILL

You told her about me and Dani getting back together again.

IRENE

I didn’t have to Will. She worked it out for herself.

WILL

Perfect. Well, I suppose now she thinks I’m trying to avoid her.

IRENE

Well, I don’t know about that, but there is the very small issue of the baby to discuss.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

SIMONE, JADE and KIRSTY are in the kitchen.

SIMONE

Aw, gross, this looks like it’s been in there for years.

KIRSTY

Do you mind? Jade’s really sensitive.

SEB walks in.

KIRSTY

One whiff of that could trigger her asthma.

SIMONE

Aw, sorry. So, what are you going to do with this stuff anyway? Won’t it go off?

SEB

What’s going on?

SIMONE

Aw, I’m getting the kitchen ready for the arsenal dusting. You have to clear the cupboards and fridge and stuff.

SEB

No, you don’t. Anyway, Shelley said there not doing it in here.

SIMONE

What? But I’ve just cleared everything.

KIRSTY

Oh, oops.

JADE

Our mistake.

KIRSTY

But you did a really good job though.

JADE

Yeah.

JADE and KIRSTY leave the room.

SIMONE

So much for making an effort.

SEB

They’re just dumb.

SIMONE

Aw, yeah, really funny. Look, there just a bunch of stuck up cows.

SIMONE and SEB leave the kitchen.

SEB

Don’t let them get to you like that. It’s exactly what they want.

SIMONE

Look, I tried, I really did, but it doesn’t matter what I do. They’re never going to like me.

SEB

Why don’t you just go home? I’ll finish here.

SIMONE

I can’t go home.

SEB

Why not?

SIMONE

Dad’s bringing another girlfriend around. He says he wants some space not that I want to be there anyway. All they do is get drunk and carry on. It’s embarrassing.

SEB

That sucks, but I reckon I know a place where you can hang.

A ROAD

GYPSY is walking alongside the road. VINNIE is in the Camara.

VINNIE

Hey. Babe, you going my way.

GYPSY

Depends which way you’re going.

VINNIE

Hop in. I’ll give you a lift to the hospital.

GYPSY

No, it’s cool. I’m going to catch a bus.

VINNIE

Hey, Gypsy. Wait right there.

VINNIE gets out the car.

VINNIE

I’m not having a princess like you catch a rusty old bus all the way to Yabbie Creek. It’s not good for the bub and it’s not good for the mumma.

GYPSY

Are you sure you want to be seen with the scarlet woman of Summer Bay.

VINNIE

It would be my absolute pleasure.

GYPSY gets in the car.

VINNIE

Besides Leah would kill me if I didn’t. This whole thing. It was her idea.

VINNIE gets in the car.

VINNIE

Solidarity of the, ah, the belly brigade.

GYPSY laughs. VINNIE then drives away. WILL comes up a path and just misses them.

THE HOSPITAL

GYPSY and CHARLOTTE are in a room.

GYPSY

Dr. Wilson says I normally show traces of protein, but he said that’s normal.

CHARLOTTE

If you could just sit down.

GYPSY

Sure.

CHARLOTTE

He’s right, it is, but it looks like it’s actually a little more than usual. I’ll just take your blood pressure before I’ll do a feel for the baby, OK.

GYPSY

OK.

GYPSY’S baby kicks.

GYPSY

Aw. I swear sometimes I reckon this little one’s got a soccer ball in there in there with in side me. Is it normal for a baby to kick so much. What’s wrong? What’s the reading.

CHARLOTTE

It’s one sixty over a hundred and five which is way up from last time. How have you been feeling?

GYPSY

Em, a couple of headaches.

CHARLOTTE

Any dizziness?

GYPSY

Well, yeah, but that kind of goes with it, doesn’t it?

CHARLOTTE

Anything in particular stressing you at the moment?

GYPSY

Em, sort of. Why? Is there something wrong?

CHARLOTTE

You’re blood pressure is way too high. You’re not going to like this, but I want to keep you in overnight for observation and do a few tests.

GYPSY

It’s that serious. Can this affect my baby at all?

CHARLOTTE

High blood pressure can be a problem. The main thing is get you some bed rest and reduce those stress levels. Is that OK?

GYPSY

Sure.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

DANI is painting a wall. WILL walks in.

DANI

How did you go?

WILL

I just missed her. Do you mind if I hang out with you for a little bit?

DANI

I think that would be OK. Grab a brush. You’re not looking forward to talking to her, are you?

WILL

I just want to sort things out.

WILL and DANI cuddle.

WILL

You’re amazing, you know that.

SEB and SIMONE walk into the office where SHELLEY is.

SEB

Hey Shelley. I was wondering. Well, actually Simone was wondering if she could stay tonight. It’s important, honest. We wouldn’t ask otherwise.

SHELLEY

This place is a bit of a shambles.

SIMONE

Oh, that’s OK. I just need somewhere to sleep.

SHELLEY

OK. I suppose we could throw a mattress on the floor.

SIMONE

Cool, thanks.

SHELLEY

And maybe you and I could have a bit more of a chat later on.

The phone rings. SHELLEY answers it.

SHELLEY

Sarah McKay Drop-In Centre.

SEB and SIMONE walk out the office.

SEB

See, told you.

SIMONE

Yeah, thanks.

SEB

Problem solved now. Do you want to me get you a drink.

SHELLEY

Yeah, I think he might be. I’ll just have to check for you.

SHELLEY walks out the office.

SHELLEY

Oh, I see. Yes, sure.

SHELLEY walks into the hall where DANI and WILL are.

SHELLEY

Oh, Will.

WILL

What’s wrong?

SHELLEY

Ah, Gypsy’s in hospital. She’s OK. It’s only high blood pressure. I just thought you’d show know.

WILL

Em, I should probably go see if she’s all right. Are you OK?

DANI

Yeah, go.

WILL leaves. DANI continues painting the wall.

THE HOSPITAL

WILL knocks on the door.

WILL

Gypsy.

GYPSY is lying on the bed reading a magazine.

WILL

Gyps, can I come in.

GYPSY

Go away Will.

WILL

Are you all right? How’s the baby?

GYPSY

Like you care. It’s half your fault I’m in here in the first place.

WILL opens the door and walks in.

WILL

How do you figure that?

GYPSY

Well I have high blood pressure which is related to stress which is related to a certain fact that a person broke a promise to me.

WILL

I’m sorry I bailed on you, but there’s a reason.

GYPSY

Of course there is. Let me guess. Em, a small, attractive, high maintenance girlfriend type of reason.

WILL

Yeah, but it’s not like that.

GYPSY

Yeah, no, whatever it is. Look, I don’t need you Will, I didn’t need you before and I don’t need you now.

WILL

Yeah, well, I concede that.

GYPSY

Excuse me, when was the last time you had anything to do with this baby.

WILL

Well I would have had you told me about it.

GYPSY

Yeah, if today’s anything to go by I seriously doubt that.

WILL

Gypsy, you’re not even giving me a chance.

GYPSY

You had your chance today. Where were you? Look, I am not having my child running around going my daddy can’t see me today because his girlfriend won’t let him and don’t say it’s not going to happen because it’s already started.

WILL

Gypsy, Dani is not doing that.

GYPSY

Aw, I couldn’t give a stuff about Dani, OK. I just want to get through my pregnancy, have my baby and get on with my life like I planned. I don’t need anything from anyone especially you. See, I knew this was going to happen.

WILL

You finished?

GYPSY

Look, just go back to Dani, Will. Have a happy little life.

WILL

I did try come around this afternoon.

GYPSY

Obviously not hard enough.

WILL leaves the room.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

RHYS walks into the living room. DANI walks into the kitchen and opens the fridge.

RHYS

Hey. How’s things going down the centre. They getting much done.

DANI

I guess.

RHYS

Hey, I’m heading back that way in a tick if you want a lift.

DANI

No, dad. I just came from there. Why would I want to go back?

RHYS

Well, you and Will are hanging out this afternoon.

DANI

No, we’re not. You happy.

RHYS

OK, do you want to talk about it?

DANI sits on the couch.

DANI

You know, I think mum is so right. It’s going to be too hard with Gypsy and the baby.

RHYS

You guys were so keen. What’s happened?

DANI

Well Gypsy’s got high blood pressure and they’ve taken her to the hospital and the minute Will finds out he goes racing after.

RHYS

Yeah, well high blood pressure can be pretty scary especially at that stage of the pregnancy.

DANI

I know that, but this exactly what it’s going to be like every single time.

DANI stands up.

DANI

Every time there’s something wrong with Gypsy and the baby, he’ll just be gone.

RHYS

Yeah, well, you know, maybe after a while it won’t bother you so much.

DANI

What? You think I’m going to get used to being second? That’s something to look forward to do.

DANI walks away.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

SHELLEY, KIRSTY and JADE are all standing in the hall. SIMONE walks past them.

SHELLEY

I have a chat to her and there’s more to it.

KIRSTY

Like what?

SHELLEY

You know I can’t tell you that. Just trust me all right.

KIRSTY

Well don’t say we didn’t warn you. See you.

RHYS walks in.

RHYS

All right you lot, I’m all yours.

KIRSTY

Good one dad, you’re a bit late.

JADE

Yeah.

KIRSTY

See you.

JADE and KIRSTY leave.

RHYS

What’s up with them?

SHELLEY

Simone.

RHYS and SHELLEY walk into the main area of the drop-in centre.

RHYS

Problem?

SHELLLEY

Well, Simone wants to stay here tonight, but they think she’s making up a story.

RHYS

And you don’t think so?

SHELLEY

Not at this stage anyway.

RHYS

So, how are things going here?

A man called MR MCKAY walks in.

SHELLEY

Oh, hi, can I help you?

MR MCKAY

Shelley, how are you?

SHELLEY

Oh, hi, Mr McKay. Em, good to see you. You remember Rhys.

RHYS

G’day.

MR MCKAY

G’day.

SHELLEY

So what brings you here?

MR MCKAY

Em, my wife and I were reading about the centres financial problems.

SHELLEY

Yeah, we were just talking about how desperate it’s getting.

MR MCKAY

Yeah, it would be criminal to see it closed down.

SHELLEY

Yeah, thanks.

MR MCKAY

Look, em, would twelve thousand dollars help you out?

THE HOSPITAL

JUDE lies on the bed. GYPSY walks in.

GYPSY

The question is, if we’re both in here who’s going to be taking notes at TAFE. How are handling it?

GYPSY kisses JUDE.

JUDE

OK. You?

GYPSY

Eh, you know. The usual tragedy that is my life.

JUDE

Yeah, well, I know what that feels like. I heard about you and Will. You kept that under wraps for a while.

GYPSY

Yeah, well, I just had a visit from him. Went really, really well. You know, I thought I was on top off all of this. I’ve had months to prepare myself and I thought I was going to be totally cool with it. I said if he wanted to be part of this babies life I wouldn’t push him away. Guess what I just did?

JUDE

Told him to get lost.

GYPSY

It’s just, you know, I’m so angry with him. Just running back to Dani again. I just wanted hurt to him like he hurt me, you know. Oh, Jude sorry, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean it, hey.

JUDE starts crying. GYPSY cuddles him.

JUDE

How could she do this to me?
