Scripts - Episode 3131

THE BEACH

SALLY and FLYNN walk along just off the beach.

FLYNN

We still haven’t decided where we are going?

SALLY

We’ve already had our first date.

FLYNN

No, no, no, drop-in centre does not count.

SALLY

Oh, and here me thinking it was something special.

FLYNN

You know, but it was, it was, definitely. I’m not getting away with that, am I?

SALLY

Nope.

FLYNN

First dates, you know, they’re supposed to be magic, something you tell your grandkids about.

SALLY

Grandkids.

FLYNN

Theoretically speaking. I’m just going to quit while I’m ahead.

SALLY

Oh, I don’t know.

SHAUNA watches SALLY and FLYNN kiss.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

SHELLEY and is there. GYPSY’S drawer is empty. SALLY and FLYNN walk in.

FLYNN

This slave thing doesn’t last forever, you know that.

SALLY

Yeah, I know. That’s why I making the most of it while it lasts. Hey, Shelley, do you want a cup of tea or coffee? We’ve got a slave in there in the kitchen. We’ve got a slave in their on kitchen duty.

SHELLEY

No thanks Sal, I’ve just had one.

SALLY

You OK?

SHELLEY

Gypsy’s gone.

SALLY

What do you mean, gone?

SHELLEY

She’s packed up her things. We had in for her earlier, a family thing.

FLYNN

Any more takers for coffee?

SHELLEY

No thanks.

SALLY

Hey Flynn, I might renege on that  coffee as well. Looks like you and Shelley might need a little time together.

FLYNN

Yeah.

SALLY

Call me later.

FLYNN

OK.

SALLY leaves.

FLYNN

So what’s going on?

SHELLEY

Gypsy’s resigned, apparently.

THE BEACH HOUSE

HAYLEY, IRENE and NICK are there.

IRENE

Have you had a chance to catch up with Noah since you’ve been back.

HAYLEY

No. Should I have?

IRENE

It’s just that he bought you those beautiful flowers. I thought you might have gone round there and personally thanked him.

HAYLEY

No, I didn’t have to. I ran into him at the beach.

IRENE

And.

HAYLEY

And I thanked him for the flowers.

IRENE

Ah, did you now.

GYPSY walks up to the back door.

GYPSY

Irene, Hi.

IRENE

Gypsy darl. How are you doing?

GYPSY

No accent then.

IRENE

It would take a bit to get rid of this one.

GYPSY

So, was it good?

IRENE

Yeah, it was lovely. A couple of surprise packages along the way, but nothing we couldn’t handle. Will told me.

GYPSY

Oh, em, well it might not be as easy as you think, Dani’s knows.

IRENE

Ah, well, it had to happen sooner or later I suppose. Will should have been the one to tell her though.

HAYLEY

Tell who what?

NICK

What’s going on?

GYPSY

Well, I better tell you guys. I want you to hear it from me.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

FLYNN and SHELLEY are there.

FLYNN

It’s Will’s baby. That puts her in another awkward position doesn’t it.

SHELLEY

Yeah, I’m glad it does.

FLYNN

So she just left, no note, nothing.

SHELLEY

Or assumed she had no choice.

FLYNN

Or did she?

SHELLEY

Aw, I can understand how she feels? It would have been incredibly difficult for both of us trying to maintain a professional relationship as though nothing had happened.

FLYNN

So you’re saying she had no choice.

SHELLEY

No, no, I’m not saying that all. I am capable of keeping my professional and personal life separate. I’m just saying it’s an awful situation for both of us and I can understand why she’d feel uncomfortable.

FLYNN

Wouldn’t we better off to try and persuade her to stay, at least until we can train up somebody else.

SHELLEY

I’m not sure that would work.

FLYNN

Well, how are we going to cope filling in for another person? If you think you’ll have trouble seeing her maybe we could organise a system so that she comes in on my shifts only and surely that’s worth a shot.

SHELLEY

And how do you propose we go about persuading her to do that?

FLYNN

She’s not even going to think about it unless the offer comes from you.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

DANI, JADE and KIRSTY are in the kitchen.

DANI

I can’t believe he knew about it before he went away and he didn’t say anything.

KIRSTY

Well maybe he just didn’t want you to worry about it while he was away.

DANI

So, what? He was saving it up for a big surprise for me when he got back? At least I now know why he was so distant on the phone.

SEB walks in.

SEB

Hey guys.

KIRSTY

Hey, do you want to come out here for a sec.

SEB and KIRSTY go out on to the veranda.

SEB

What’s going on?

KIRSTY

It’s all right. It’s nothing. So what are you up to?

SEB

Well Jude’s coming back from Melbourne tomorrow and we’re going to have a few people over. You know, a bit of food. Do you want to come?

KIRSTY

I’m sorry. I can’t. There’s to much going on down here at the moment.

SEB

What’s wrong with Dani?

KIRSTY

Aw, it’s cool. I’ll tell you about it some other day. So, are you going to go to the airport when they pick up Jude?

SEB

No, Noah’s taken the van so there’s not enough a room.

KIRSTY

Why doesn’t Shauna just pick him up her car?

SEB

She said she had something else on.

KIRSTY

Are you sure that’s all there is to it?

SEB

What’s that supposed to mean?

KIRSTY

Well the other day, Jade and I were walking through the caravan park and, well we saw Shauna run out of Flynn’s van.

SEB

So.

KIRSTY

So, she looked really upset, you know, as if she’d been crying. It was like they’d had a fight or something.

SEB

So, what are you trying to say?

KIRSTY

Nothing.

SEB

Flynn and Shauna. Aw, you’ve got to be joking?

THE BEACH HOUSE

HAYLEY, NICK, GYPSY and IRENE are all there.

HAYLEY

You and Will, this is so amazing.

NICK

Will’s going to be a dad. That’s so weird.

IRENE

Eh, takes a bit of getting used to, I tell you that much.

HAYLEY

Yeah, but I thought that him and Dani were just so, you know.

GYPSY

Yeah, it was while they broke up.

HAYLEY

Aw.

IRENE

Hayley, Nick.

HAYLEY

I’m going to be an auntie. This is so unreal.

IRENE

Haven’t you got some homework to do?

HAYLEY

Irene, this is way more important than homework.

NICK

Yeah, I want to talk about Uncle Nick.

IRENE

Yeah, and I need to sort things out with Gypsy.

HAYLEY

OK.

NICK

Actually, I’ve got to go out anyway.

HAYLEY  and NICK leave.

GYPSY

So, are you going to tell me what an idiot I am.

IRENE

I think you’ve both done a wonderful job of  making your lives as difficult for yourselves as you possibly could, but what’s done is done.

GYPSY

You’re not going to lecture me how I’ve completely ruined Will’s life.

IRENE

Ah well, he’s a big boy. He’s perfectly capable of getting himself into all sorts of bother without any help from anyone. You’re the one I’m worried about.

GYPSY

Me.

IRENE

Well love it must have been hard work keeping this for everyone. Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but the hard works just started. Gypsy love, you know what this place is like. When word gets out the tongues will be wagging so fast will all get knocked over in the slipstream.

GYPSY

Yeah, I can hardly wait for that.

IRENE

Yeah, well I just want to let you know if they’re going to do that they’re going to have to climb over me first. As far as I’m concerned Will and the other two are my family and child of theirs is my family too and that means you and the baby if you think you can handle it.

GYPSY

I think I can handle it.

HAYLEY comes downstairs.

IRENE

Isn’t that right Hayley.

HAYLEY

Yep, that’s exactly what I was going to say.

IRENE

Come on, you may as well come in. She’s not going to get any study done tonight now.

HAYLEY

I am so glad that Will’s the father.

IRENE

So, have you spoken to him?

GYPSY

Not since Dani found out.

IRENE

Well, don’t you think it’s time.

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

SHELLEY, RHYS, JADE, DANI, BRODIE and KIRSTY are all there.

SHELLEY

Well, it looks like Gypsy’s decided to quit the centre.

KIRSTY

Saves you haven’t to chuck her out.

JADE

Kirsty, she’s going to have a baby. She needs a job.

KIRSTY

She doesn’t deserve a job after what’s she’s did to Dani.

SHELLEY

She didn’t do anything to Dani deliberately. Will does play a role in this to.

KIRSTY

Mum, she was always trying to get her claws into him.

The phone starts to ring.

DANI

Can you guys not.

JADE

Sorry.

RHYS answers the phone.

RHYS

G’day.

DANI

So she’s gone for good.

SHELLEY

Yeah, well, I haven’t spoken to her yet. I suppose she thinks she’s doing the best thing by leaving, but it’s going to make things difficult at the centre.

DANI

Here we go. You still think that she should be working there.

SHELLEY

I think it’s a loss to the centre not having her there, yes.

DANI

Don’t you get what she done to me.

SHELLEY

Dani it would irresponsible of me to let a personal grudge affect my professional judgement.

DANI

It’s the same old stuff, isn’t it?

SHELLEY

Oh, Dani, this is a difficult situation for all of us.

RHYS

Hang on a sec. That was Alf on the phone. He’s taking some blokes out tomorrow morning on a fishing trip. Thought you might be glad for a bit of work.

DANI

With a bunch of yobs on a boat, no thank you.

RHYS

No, he doesn’t want you to go out with them. He just wants you to help him clean it down after they get back.

DANI

No, I don’t want to see anyone.

RHYS

Hiding away in your room isn’t going make this any easier Dan.

DANI

Yeah, I know that dad.

THE LAWSON HOUSE

NOAH plays the guitar. SEB answers the door. FLYNN is there.

FLYNN

Hey. Can I come in?

SEB

Sure.

FLYNN

When’s Jude due back from Melbourne?

SEB

Tomorrow night.

FLYNN

Hey, no more takeaway for you boys.

SEB

Whatever.

NOAH

Here, take a seat. Do you want a drink?

FLYNN

A beer thanks.

SEB and NOAH are in the kitchen.

NOAH

What’s with the attitude?

SEB

Kirsty saw Shauna coming out of Flynn’s van the other day. She was crying.

NOAH

And.

SEB

It’s pretty obvious, isn’t it.

NOAH

Well they could be thousand of reasons why she was there, OK.

SEB

Like?

NOAH

I don’t know, stuff.

SEB

I just told you, she was crying.

NOAH

Yeah, listen mate. Make sure you get your facts straight before you start jumping to conclusions, OK.

NOAH goes through to the living room.

NOAH

Here.

FLYNN

Oh, thanks. What’s with Seb?

NOAH

Ah, I don’t know. Hey, look at this. It’s a song I wrote for Hayley.

SALLY’S HOUSE

GYPSY, SHAUNA and SALLY are outside.

GYPSY

So you don’t think I should have stuck around?

They walk inside.

SALLY

No, I think you did exactly what you had to do to get out of an uncomfortable situation.

GYPSY

I just didn’t have the energy to fight.

SHAUNA

So, em, did you go over and see Irene.

GYPSY

Yeah, she already knew. Will had told her. Hayley was so excited about being an auntie.

SHAUNA

Oh, so when’s Will coming back?

GYPSY

I don’t know. Irene’s going to ring him tonight.

SHELLEY is at the door.

SALLY

Oh, hey Shelley.

SHELLEY

Hi, Sal. Is Gypsy in?

THE BEACH HOUSE

IRENE is on the phone. HAYLEY is there.

IRENE

Yes love, look I understand.

Will, you’re not listening to me.

HAYLEY

Let me talk to him.

IRENE

Look love I’m so sorry that Edward is sick, but really, it’s a matter of priorities, now isn’t it?

Will, I really think that you should get yourself back home. It’s not all going to all miraculously sort itself you know. You’ve got to get your but back here, you’ve got to face the music mate. All right.

OK then, good.

HAYLEY

Well?

IRENE

He’s going to try an rearrange his flights.

SALLY’S HOUSE

SHELLEY and GYPSY are there.

SHELLEY

I admit I didn’t handle it very well when I found out, but you could have at least discussed it with me before you left Gypsy.

GYPSY

I just. I thought it would be easier if I wasn’t there.

SHELLEY

Do you honestly believe that. How do you think I’m going to get to replace you? I’m not going to kid you I’m here to smooth things over. I’m here because I’m in a spot.

GYPSY

Well I’ve said I’m sorry. I don’t know what else I can do.

SHELLEY

You could stay on at the centre.

GYPSY

Are you serious? You want me to work with somebody who hates me.

SHELLEY

Aw, Gypsy, I don’t hate you. I’m very disappointed in you. I don’t think you’ll ever understand how much you’ve hurt Dani.

GYPSY

And how can you stand working with me?

SHELLEY

I don’t think I can to be perfectly honest with you. Flynn has suggested there might be a way to work out our shifts so we don’t get in each others hair.

GYPSY

What? So it’s business then.

SHELLEY

Well that’s the only way it can be. I need you, the jobs there, take it or leave it.

GYPSY

Shelley, is Dani OK?

SHELLEY

She’s coping. Well, you let me know as soon as you’ve decided because I’ll need to find a replacement

if you’re not staying.

GYPSY

Sure.

THE LAWSON HOUSE

NOAH plays the guitar. SEB and FLYNN are there. There is a knock at the door. NOAH goes to answer it. It’s someone called CHARLOTTE.

CHARLOTTE

Hi. Can you turn the volume down a little. I can think of someone who really needs some sleep. Me.

NOAH

Yeah, sorry, I’ll turn the amp off. It’s all right, we got a bit carried away.

CHARLOTTE

No, no, no, that’s fine. I’ve just been doing double shifts lately. That small sleep is very precious to me. My granny seems to like it though, so you’ve got one fan.

NOAH

Thanks.

CHARLOTTE

That’s OK. OK, well I better go before delirium starts to kick in.

NOAH

Bye.

CHARLOTTE leaves.

FLYNN

Who was that?

NOAH

Ah, just some chick from upstairs. Doesn’t recognise music genius when she hears it. It wasn’t that loud.

There is a knock at the door. SEB answers it. SHAUNA is there.

SEB

Hi.

SHAUNA

Hi. Em, hi guys. Em, I was just wondering if you knew exactly what time Jude was getting in?

NOAH

Ah, he gets in about ten past eight. We’re all going to have a welcome home thingy for him, if you want to come. Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you.

FLYNN

Yeah, I might catch up another time. I’m going to have to.

NOAH

Yeah.

FLYNN

See you.

NOAH

See you.

FLYNN leaves.

THE WHARF

ALF is there. DANI walks towards them.

ALF

G’day young Dani. I thought you weren’t going to help me out this morning.

DANI had nothing better to do.

ALF

Well, you won’t need my help finding the buckets in the lockers, will you?

DANI

I think I can handle it.

GYPSY starts to walk down the dwarf.

ALF

See you later. I’ve just got to get some detergent from the shops. G’day Gyps.

GYPSY

Morning.

DANI

Oh no.

DANI unties the boat and begins to drive it again.

ALF

What the? Hey, what in blue blazers do you think you’re doing?

ALF runs down the wharf.

THE CARAVAN PARK

NOAH is sweeping. JADE is there.

NOAH

And what would madam like me to do now?

JADE

Take the composts around the back. Can you put them in there please?

NOAH

Anything madam desires.

FLYNN run along.

FLYNN

What’s going on here?

NOAH

Somebody bought me in a slave auction, remember.

FLYNN

Of course.

JADE

I couldn’t think of anything better for him to do, so.

FLYNN

Hey, get him to do your raking up is as good a start as any.

FLYNN continues to jog and jogs into Shauna.

SHAUNA

We need to talk Flynn.

FLYNN

Uh. We’ve been through this.

SHAUNA

Look, no more hysterics, OK. I just want to talk to you. I promise. It will be the last time, OK.

FLYNN

Let’s grab a bench.

NOAH sees SHAUNA and FLYNN walk away.

THE BLAXLAND

DANI is aboard. ALF is alongside in a rowing boat.

ALF

Stop the flamin’ boat. I coming aboard. Have you fallen completely off your flamin’ pogo stick, ay. I told you to clean the boat, not to take it for a flamin’ joyride.

DANI

I’m sorry.

ALF climbs aboard.

ALF

Sorry. Oh, sorry, you think that does it, do you. This is not a toy. It’s the way I make my flamin’ living. I trusted you girl and what do you do? Your hooning around like some yahoo. A galah’s got more brains than you have. Aw, don’t be daft. Just stop it all right. Look it’s not the end of the world, OK.

THE BEACH

SHAUNA and FLYNN walk along.

SHAUNA

I wanted to talk to you before Jude got back. I don’t want you telling him about what happened.

FLYNN

Oh, I would have left it up to you to tell him anyway.

SHAUNA

I know and I will. I need more time.

FLYNN

Time.

SHAUNA

Yeah, I mean, put yourself in my shoes. None of this is easy.

FLYNN

I think I know. Think about the compromising position you’ve put me in. Jude is a friend of mine to remember.

SHAUNA

I know that and I am really sorry.

FLYNN

Save it.

NOAH watches them talk.

FLYNN

Just go and tell him the whole story. Stop lying to him. Stop lying to yourself that you care about him because all I’ve seen of your behaviour lately, the only person you care about is yourself.

FLYNN walks away.

THE LAWSON HOUSE

SEB and NOAH walk in.

NOAH

We still don’t know for sure yet.

SEB

Aw, give me a break, you told me you saw it with your own eyes.

NOAH

They could have been talking about anything.

SEB

Come on. What more proof do you want? You’re cheating on your own brother.

NOAH

Don’t you say a word of this to Jude, OK.

SEB

So you’re just going to let them get away with it.

NOAH

No, it would kill him if he thought Shauna was cheating on him OK.

SEB

Well, he’s going to find out sooner or later. Either we tell him or he finds out himself. How are you protecting here? Flynn or your brother.

THE BLAXLAND

ALF and DANI are aboard.

DANI

When I saw her on the wharf I knew that she wanted to talk to me.

ALF

So you decided to head for the mulga.

DANI

I just couldn’t talk to her.

ALF

Well, I guess I can understand that.

DANI

I just want to tear her eyes out.

ALF

Not a very good idea love. If you did something like that you’d end up in  a real mess. Look, I’m not going to pretend that it’s not going to be hard for you.

DANI

What am I supposed to do? You know, every time I go down the street I’m worried about seeing her and then when the baby comes, it’s just going to be this mess and every time I see them.

ALF

You just put one foot in front of the other, one step at a time. The hurt will gradually get less day by day and then one day you’ll wake up and you’ll realise you haven’t thought about them for a whole day. Works for me sometimes.

DANI

Thanks Mr. Stewart.

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

SALLY and FLYNN walk in.

SALLY

The whole things has just been so messy. You don’t know what it’s been like knowing what’s going on and not being able to tell Shelley about it.

FLYNN

Yeah, you’ve been a really good friend to Gyps. She’s really lucky she had you there to lead her. Two coffees please. I tell you though, it seems like it would have been a hell of a lot easier just to tell them once she found out. Trying to keep something like this a secret, it’s not healthy for anyone. Someone always gets hurt in the end.

SALLY

You know, I just wish I could have done something to make it easier for everyone.

FLYNN

You can’t. Don’t beat yourself up over it. You know, you sworn to secrecy. What could you do? You couldn’t go blabbing to the world about it.

SALLY

Anyway, I’m glad you sorted things out so at least she can still work at the drop-in centre.

FLYNN

Half that credit goes to Shelley. You know if she wasn’t capable of putting her personal feelings aside this wouldn’t be happening.

CHARLOTTE is walking out.

FLYNN

Hey, excuse me. Keeping awake I see.

CHARLOTE

Sorry.

FLYNN

Aw, I was downstairs jamming with Noah last night. You came down to have a word with him about the noise.

CHARLOTTE

Oh, yeah, yeah, that was me. I’m not usually such a party pooper. I’ve just got a lot of work on at the moment. Anyway I’m late again. See you.

FLYNN

Flynn and this is my friend Sally.

CHARLOTTE

Charlotte Adams.

SALLY

Hey.

CHARLOTTE walks out.

THE WHARF

ALF and DANI are on the Blaxland. GYPSY is on the wharf.

ALF

Looks like you’ve got a welcoming committee.

DANI

Oh no.

ALF

Give us that rope would you Gyps.

GYPSY

Dani, look I know you don’t want to hear anything I’ve got to say, but please can you just listen. There’s a couple of things you’ve got to know. Number one, you and Will were not together when it happened and number two, he didn’t know it was his baby. I didn’t tell him till just before he left for London.

DANI

I know, but you see, you knew. You knew all along and you watched us. You let us fall in love and you knew it was going to be ripped apart one day. How could you be that cruel?

SUMMER BAY HOUSE

BRODIE and DANI are there.

DANI

I can’t believe she’d even bother. As if anything she’d have to say would make any difference to me.

BRODIE

She’s a bit of a sad case isn’t she?

DANI

Sad.

BRODIE

Yeah, look at her. She’s alone, she’s pregnant, her family  aren’t here. Will’s probably never going to speak to her again after she lied to him all this time.

DANI

I still hate her.

BRODIE

Do you hate Will too?

DANI

I don’t know.

BRODIE

They’re millions of guys who would just die to go out with you.

DANI

Yeah, but the thing is. I don’t want millions of guys. I want Will.
