Scripts - Episode 3125

LONDON-A SQUARE

DON, IRENE, HAYLEY, WILL and NICK are there.

IRENE

Don, love, it can’t have been Marilyn. I’m telling you, it just can’t have been.

DON

Well, if it wasn’t her it must have been her double.

NICK

This is just great. We come all the way to England to see Flathead chuck a mental.

HAYLEY

I saw a woman with blonde hair, but that’s all.

IRENE

I mean, you saw the woman for how long. Half a second.

ROBBIE draws up on his moped.

ROBBIE

Hayley, hi.

HAYLEY

Robbie, what are you doing here?

ROBBIE

I’ve got a few hours off so I’ve just came down to see some friends who have got a stall here.

DON

I’m sorry. I’m ruining this for everyone.

IRENE

No, you’re not Don. Not at all. Well, what a hard start to the first day, eh.

DON

Yes, yes, it certainly was. Look, I’m sorry, but if no one minds I think I’ll go back to the hotel.

DON walks away.

NICK

But we haven’t seen anything yet.

IRENE

Mr. Fisher only means himself Nick.

NICK

Hey, well, you know, that’s fine. We’ll be right.

ROBBIE

Well, I can see you all later.

HAYLEY

Aw, OK, well it was nice running into you.

ROBBIE leaves.

IRENE

Eh, look guys, I really should get back to the hotel and keep an eye on Don now. Look, can you lot be trusted to spend the afternoon and not wind up locked in the tower?

WILL

Yeah, I’m going to check out the dudgeons.

IRENE

OK, Hayley, you’ll be all right, love.

HAYLEY

Yeah, yeah, I’ll see you later.

HAYLEY walks away.

IRENE

Will, you keep an eye on your brother, eh.

WILL

I travel sixteen thousand k’s to be his minder.

IRENE

No, you can just let him wander around London by himself and get lost or you could start behaving like a member of this family for the first time since we left home. Now, I want you both back at the hotel in plenty of time for the big do tonight.

NICK

I don’t need him hanging around.

IRENE walks away. HAYLEY and ROBBIE are walking along together.

ROBBIE

Are you following me?

HAYLEY

Maybe.

ROBBIE

Hey, I haven’t got a problem with that. What happened to your family?

HAYLEY

Aw, they’re all doing their own things.

ROBBIE

So, you’ve got me all to myself.

HAYLEY

Yeah, if that’s OK.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

FLYNN and GYPSY are in the office.

FLYNN

Hey, Gyps, can you take that and this and get Sal to check them over.

GYPSY

I could, but I won’t. Nice try.

FLYNN

Come on Gypsy. You know how busy I am here.

GYPSY

What I know Flynn Saunders is you’re gutless.

FLYNN

Don’t hold back there Gyps.

GYPSY

I won’t. It’s not my style.

FLYNN

Yeah, I’ve came to realise that.

GYPSY

And don’t change the subject either. We’re talking about you avoiding Sally.

FLYNN

Aw, were we.

GYPSY

Yes, and we were talking about the fact that I’m not going to let you avoid her. It’s so weird seeing you like this.

FLYNN

Like what?

GYPSY

Like all pre-teen and angsty about Sally. You’re normally so in control.

FLYNN

I’m not angsty. She doesn’t want to see me. She doesn’t want to know me.

GYPSY

You’re so clueless to. Look, you and Sally have to work this out.

GYPSY leaves.

LONDON-A ROAD

WILL and NICK are there.

NICK

This is so cool man. We’re on like the other side of the world. Want to do something?

WILL

You want to go to the dungeons don’t you.

NICK

Yeah, we get home and everyone says what did you do in London. Aw, yeah, like we checked out the dungeons. This is our chance to really check it out.

WILL

Nah, I’m not in the mood for crowds.

NICK

We’re in London. What did you expect? You haven’t enjoyed one minute of this trip so far. Man, if your missing Dani so much why don’t you just run home to her.

WILL

Nick, will you just stop it about Dani.

NICK

And why are you in such a nightmare mood? You know, I’m going to go and have fun and you just go and get stuffed.

WILL

Nick.

NICK walks off.

LONDON-A MARKET

ROBBIE and HAYLEY are there. ROBBIE puts on a Scottish hat.

ROBBIE

Hayley. Auch I the noo Jimmy,

HAYLEY

What?

ROBBIE

Auch I the.

HAYLEY

You need help.

ROBBIE

OK, how about this? That’s not a knife, this is a knife.

HAYLEY

Don’t give up the day job Robbie.

ROBBIE

Do you want to browse some more?

HAYLEY

No, I don’t really feel like shopping actually.

ROBBIE

Then, why don’t I show you the city I love?

THE BEACHSIDE DINER

JUDE and SHAUNA sit at a table. COLLEEN serves them.

SHAUNA

Well, this ones for VJ, but we bought most of these clothes for Gypsy’s bub. Look how tiny they are.

COLLEEN

Oh, hard to credit we were all that size once. I’ll be about five minutes, all right.

SHAUNA

OK, thank you.

JUDE

Thanks.

SHAUNA

Colleen.

COLLEEN walks over to the counter where ALF is.

COLLEEN

If you ask me, I’d say young Shauna’s getting just a little bit clucky if you know what I mean.

ALF

Yeah, well it always happens to Sheila’s, doesn’t it. One of their mates gets preggers and it doesn’t take long.

VINNIE walks in.

VINNIE

Hey guys.

JUDE and SHAUNA hide the baby clothes.

SHAUNA

Hey.

JUDE

Hey, how’s it going mate?

VINNIE

I don’t know. Listen, Leah’s going to be in a bit late. She was up all night worrying about Alex and the Camara.

COLLEEN

Well, she shouldn’t be in her condition. You tell her there’s nothing to worry about there.

ALF

You look a bit rough around the edges yourself, mate.

VINNIE

Aw, I’m soldiering on.

COLLEEN

Well, you don’t have to worry about me Vinnie. Silence is golden if you know what I mean.

VINNIE

Uh.

ALF

Colleen had a visit from Sergeant Cray last night.

COLLEEN

Let them ask their questions. They might as well save their breath. I didn’t say a thing except your dad’s the crook, always has been, always will be.

VINNIE

Thanks Colleen.

COLLEEN goes into the kitchen.

VINNIE

Thanks for making sure they asked me why I was so quick to work with a low down, stinking con merchant like my father.

ALF

Ah, settle down mate. I mean it’s not as though you clamped in ice just yet, is it?

VINNIE

Mate, you think. I should have this coming a mile off Stewie. I thought I put my fist through the cobwebs of the past, but obviously I was just fooling myself.

LONDON-THE HOTEL

DON and IRENE are in the hotel room.

DON

You know, seeing Marilyn or even thinking I saw her makes me realise now that I fooled myself. That chapter of my life was closed.

IRENE

Some wounds never heal.

DON

I’m sorry Irene. I really want to show you London, what a beautiful city this is and now.

IRENE

Now nothing Don. Look, the kids are as happy as Larry. There off doing their own things and quite frankly I could do with a bit of a lie down anyway before tonight.

DON

Yes, I guess your right. I should use this opportunity to go over my speech. Work in a few jokes maybe. Thanks Irene. I really mean that.

IRENE

Don, don’t dwell on this. This nights about you and Hayley. You focus on that.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

FLYNN and KIRSTY are there. GYPSY sits and listens.

FLYNN

Oh, so what the news from London?

KIRSTY

Aw, nothing, but Dani’s being a total drama queen about it.

FLYNN

Having to give her time.

KIRSTY

Yeah, I suppose. I just wish they’d come back so I didn’t have to listen to Jade yack about Nick all night.

FLYNN

So, you’ve got two drama queens.

KIRSTY

Yep, I’m surrounded.

SEB walks in.

SEB

Hey.

KIRSTY

Seb, hi. So, how’s the big time manager. Got any more gig set up for Indecision.

SEB

I’m doing OK. Em, can you look at something for me?

KIRSTY

Yeah, sure. I’m looking at a postcard from Mr. Fisher. So?

SEB

So why didn’t he sign it Mr. Fisher?

KIRSTY

Why?

SEB

He signed it Donald, see.

KIRSTY

Em, isn’t that his name.

SEB

Yeah, but why Donald? Why not Mr?

KIRSTY

Well, what would you want him to sign it? Granddad?

SEB

Get real.

KIRSTY

What’s he written anyway?

SEB

The history of Kuala Lumpur.

KIRSTY

Stupid question, eh.

GYPSY walks into the office. FLYNN is there.

GYPSY

Don’t forget to drop that stuff off at Sally’s.

FLYNN

I really don’t have time to.

GYPSY

Yeah, you do.

LONDON- A ROAD

HAYLEY and ROBBIE walk along.

ROBBIE

The city now just like a garment where the beauty of the morning, silent, bare ships, towers, domes, the inters temple lie open until the fields and until the sky.

HAYLEY

That’s beautiful. We’re studying Wordsworth at school.

HAYLEY and ROBBIE are now at different part of London.

HAYLEY

I can’t believe this is the bridge.

ROBBIE

Now you have to tell me about Summer Bay.

HAYLEY

Yeah, it’s beautiful too. Different though. Everything here is so old.

ROBBIE

There is a new city here too. New architecture.

HAYLEY

You know about architecture?

ROBBIE

Not enough. I’m a student slaving part-time at the hotel for my fees. What I do know, if you want to see new architecture you’ve got to look up. You see.

HAYLEY and ROBBIE are in a different part of London.

ROBBIE

The great fire as good as wiped old London town off the map. It was tragic. What else could Wren do, but build the most beautiful city in the world in it’s place.

HAYLEY

Yeah, I agree it’s a beautiful city, but have you seen Sydney harbour lately.

ROBBIE

Aw, getting a little patriotic are we?

HAYLEY

Yes, well I have to defend my turf some time.

SALLY’S HOUSE

SHAUNA and SALLY are there.

SALLY

Aw, that is so cute. Aw.

SHAUNA

You don’t think Gypsy will think we’re interfering again do you?

SALLY

No, I think she’ll be glad her friends are buying her all these thing that she’s going to be needing soon.

SHAUNA

Look at it. I wish the father was still around and then we wouldn’t have to buy all these things.

There’s a knock at the door. SHAUNA answers it. It is FLYNN.

SHAUNA

Hi, come in.

FLYNN

Thanks. Sal, I finalised this list of names. I think we’re about ready to go.

SALLY

Oh.

FLYNN

The remedial reading classes.

SALLY

Oh, right, thanks. You should have just given them to Gypsy.

FLYNN

Oh, she was a bit busy.

SHAUNA

Isn’t she on her way home soon.

FLYNN

I just wanted you to have plenty time to check over it, OK.

SALLY

OK.

FLYNN

So, I’ll see you.

SALLY

See you.

SHAUNA

See you.

FLYNN leaves and SHAUNA shuts the door.

SHAUNA

What was all that about?

SALLY

Sorry.

SHAUNA

Well, that was a pretty weak excuse to come around and see you. Is something going on between you two.

SALLY

No, of course not.

LONDON-A ROAD

NICK looks at a map of London.

NICK

Why don’t they make maps people can understand?

He crosses the road. Two of the members of Atomic Kitten, NATASHA and JENNY, are there. They sign autographs.

NATASHA

There you go.

JENNY

Take care. See you later guys.

AUTOGRAPH HUNTER

See you later.

NATASHA

Are you all right? You look a bit lost there.

NICK

A bit. I’m very lost.

JENNY

Are you on holiday?

NICK

Yeah, I’m from Summer Bay, Australia.

JENNY

Very cute accent. Sounds like a nice place for a holiday, eh.

NICK

Yeah, well you should go sometime. Look, you guys wouldn’t know where the London is would you?

JENNY

Yes, right, OK, so you’re here, you need to go all the way down here and go left as far as you go. You can’t miss is it. It’s massive.

NATASHA

Huge.

JENNY

Huge.

NICK

Excellent. Thanks guys.

JENNY

Right, we’re going to have to shoot off now, but enjoy the rest of your stay and we’ll see you again.

NICK

Hey look, if you ever think of coming to Summer Bay just look me up

JENNY

Stop chatting us up. See you later.

NICK

I’ll actually give you my number if you want.

NATASHA and JENNY get in the car. NICK walks away.

SALLY’S HOUSE

GYPSY, SALLY and SHAUNA are there.

GYPSY

You shouldn’t have, but I’m glad you did. Oh, thank you from both of us.

SHAUNA

Well, I’m exhausted from all that shopping so I’m going to have a shower.

SALLY

Oh, another little person. Don’t you ever wonder what they’ll do, what they’ll grow up to be, whether they’ll be happy?

GYPSY

Well, it can’t stuff up anymore than I did.

SALLY

Gypsy, you know if Will tells Dani that he’s the father that’s the end of keeping secrets. You have to tell Shauna. You do. It’s not fair. She’s going to be so hurt if the first person she hears it from is Colleen Smart or someone.

LONDON-A STATUE

WILL walks along.

LONDON-HORSEGUARDS PARADE

NICK films a soldier.

NICK

Here we are at the queen’s lifeguard.

WILL

Hey, have you lot seen Nick?

HAYLEY

No.

WILL

Well he ran off.

ROBBIE

I’ll catch you later.

HAYLEY

Yeah, but weren’t you two together.

WILL

Yes, until he threw a hissy fit. Now we’ve got to go find him.

HAYLEY

Does Irene know about this?

WILL

No.

HAYLEY

I better tell her Will.

WILL

Yeah, whatever.

HAYLEY walks in. ROBBIE is there. The phone rings.

ROBBIE

Radisson Edwardian Hotel. Good afternoon.

NOAH is on the other end of the line.

NOAH

Is that Robbie?

ROBBIE

Yes, mate it is. How are you?

NOAH

Yeah, good thanks mate.

ROBBIE

Good, good.

NOAH

Is Hayley around?

ROBBIE

Hayley. Sorry, Noah, you missed her. She’s just gone out.

NOAH

Aw, OK.

SALLY’S HOUSE

SALLY, GYPSY and SHAUNA are there.

SALLY

Gypsy, you know.

GYPSY

I’ll just go and have a pow now.

SHAUNA

What was that about?

SALLY

Aw, just something I’ve been reminding Gypsy to do. Hey, looks like Seb will be coming to the remedial reading classes.

SHAUNA

Aw, that’s terrific.

SALLY

Yeah, now we’re just keeping our fingers crossed that any of the other kids will actually turn up.

SHAUNA

We, as you and Flynn?

SALLY

Yeah.

SHAUNA

Wasn’t he a bit weird when he came over here before?

SALLY

Was he? He’s probably just stressed out about the drop-in centre, you know, having to raise all that money for the repairs.

SHAUNA

Yeah. You know, nothing will be keeping him here if the centre closes.

LONDON-THE HOTEL

ROBBIE is at the counter. IRENE walks up to the counter.

IRENE

Excuse me.

ROBBIE

Mrs Roberts, how can I help you?

IRENE

If Will turns up could you tell him that Nick’s here and could he get himself to start to getting ready for tonight’s book launch.

ROBBIE

He’s there now.

WILL walks in.

IRENE

Aw, g’day sunshine. You’re brother’s back, OK, so we better get upstairs and get a move on.

WILL

Whatever.

IRENE

Come with me. I want a word.

WILL

What is this. There’s nothing to talk about.

IRENE

Sit. I said sit. Is this to do with you and Dani?

WILL

It’s nothing.

IRENE

Will, nothing is why you’ve been walking around in a foul temper with everyone and everything and your mind of god knows where. Now will you please tell me what is going on?

WILL

It’s nothing I can’t handle.

IRENE

Aw, you reckon, do you?

WILL

Yes.

IRENE

Well, from everything I’ve witnessed since this trip started mate, you are not handling it, not one little bit. Now we’re not going anywhere until you tell me what is going on.

WILL

It’s about Gypsy.

SALLY’S HOUSE

SALLY, GYPSY and SHAUNA are there.

GYPSY

He didn’t know and I decided I wasn’t going to tell him.

LONDON-THE HOTEL

WILL and IRENE are there.

IRENE

Will, you’re scaring me. What about Gypsy?

SALLY’S HOUSE

SALLY, GYPSY and SHAUNA are there.

GYPSY

So, I just, I have to have my baby and, em, it’s up to him to sort out what he wants to do.

LONDON-THE HOTEL

IRENE and WILL are there.

IRENE

Oh, Will. What are the two of you going to do?

SALLY’S HOUSE

GYPSY, SALLY and SHAUNA are there.

SHAUNA

The baby needs its father in its life and I should know that.

LONDON-THE HOTEL

IRENE and WILL are there.

LONDON-THE BOOK LAUNCH

DON, HAYLEY, NICK, WILL, IRENE and JOANNE, somebody from the book company.

HAYLEY

Sorry we are late.

DON

Yes Joanna, my apologies.

JOANNA

No problem.

IRENE

All right love.

WILL

Yeah.

Somebody from the Book Company named JAMES comes over.

JAMES

Excuse me. Come on in Donald, hi, James Cooper.

DON

Oh.

JAMES

Hi Hayley.

DON

Hello James. Good to meet you in person, finally.

HAYLEY

Em, this is Irene Roberts and my brothers Nick and Will.

IRENE

Hi.

JOANNA

I was just telling Hayley with her talent, she could easily find work over here.

HAYLEY

It’s a beautiful city.

JAMES

Well it surely can’t compare with your open spaces in Australia.

HAYLEY

Ah, someone told me that to see the real London, you have to look up.

JAMES

Well, it sure is true.

NICK

Hayls, are you going change your mind and give a speech?

HAYLEY

No way.

DON

Why not Hayley? You were very good last time.

HAYLEY

Yeah, well last time I knew everyone there and I was still scared stiff.

DON

What a shame that Judith, Edward and Peta aren’t here. Thank you.

WILL

They would have really liked this.

HAYLEY sees ROBBIE.

HAYLEY

Hey Robbie.

SARAH MCKAY DROP-IN CENTRE

SALLY talks to a group of kids.

SALLY

We want to help you. That’s the whole idea of the course, but, em, we can only do that if you’re committed to the classes so we’ll depend on each other. All right, yep. OK, I’ll see you in class.

FLYNN comes out the office.

FLYNN

Sal, can I see you in the kitchen for a moment?

SALLY

Yeah, is there a problem?

FLYNN

Ah, nothing more than usual.

They go into the kitchen.

SALLY

Sounds serious.

FLYNN

Yeah, well it is. I cannot handle this any longer.

SALLY

I don’t know what you mean.

FLYNN

Yes you do. You know exactly what I mean. I cannot handle not being your friend. I cannot handle not being your anything anymore. I mean, I’m thinking about you all the time. I’m wanting to see you and the way you look at me out there like I’m some sort of dirt bag, it’s pretty hard to take.

SALLY

You hurt me Flynn.

FLYNN

I know, I know, but a mate of mine, a very wise deceptive mate of mine said that living now with what is good is more important than worrying about what bad stuff might happen in the future. Am I making any sense?

SALLY

Not really, no.

FLYNN

OK, avoiding a relationship now because I might have to go and deal with Ashley is a mistake. It’s worse than mistake, it is pathetic.

SALLY

But things got out of control. You needed to pull back. I understand that.

FLYNN

No, no, you don’t understand. I care about you and I really care about and I don’t want to pull back.

SALLY

You don’t have to say any of this. I’m all right, you don’t have to feel sorry.

FLYNN

I’m not saying this because I feel sorry for you. I’m saying this because it is the truth. Now, have we started something.

SALLY

Yeah.

FLYNN

Yeah, well I want to keep it going. Now, if you can forgive me for that non-kiss moment, I got scared. I was an idiot.

SALLY

I can’t argue with that.

FLYNN

I promise you they’ll be a lot of kissing moments from now on.

SALLY

That’s a big promise to make.

SALLY and FLYNN kiss.

LONDON-THE BOOK LAUNCH

JAMES, WILL, HAYLEY, IRENE, NICK and DON are there.

JAMES

And now, ladies and gentlemen, please, allow me to introduce to you Donald Fisher.

The crowd applauds.

DON

Thank you, thank you, very much. Well to be perfectly honest with you, I don’t know how or indeed where to begin. My head is still spinning from all this sudden fame. Yeah, so sudden in fact that it is only taken me forty years to get where I am today. Yeah, on the other hand, this young lady standing over here, Hayley Smith, who illustrated our book is so talented that she’s only just started on the adventure of living and is already successful. Yes, yes, the adventure of life is something that my son Byron never had. This book is a tribute to him. To the joy, the happiness, the completion he brought to my life if only for the very shortest of time.

MARILYN walks in.
