Extended Summary

Annie calls Irene and tells her that Geoff has taken off and the reasons why, but Irene remains adment that Annie still can’t come in and see her. Belle starts to get overwhelmed with all her responsibilities and confides in Aden about Claudia’s pregnancy and her worries about Irene – Aden is a great help to her, offering to go along with her when she visits Irene. During the visit, Irene tells Belle that she’s seen the Doctor, who has arranged medication and counselling to help her stop drinking, but she is visibly depressed and giving up hope of ever being released. Irene mistakenly believes that Aden and Belle are back together, but they quickly tell her they’re just friends – despite some of their old spark still being evident. Aden later admits to Rachel he wants to get back with Belle, but Rachel advises him just to be her friend for the moment. Aden tells Belle that if he’s distracting her from her own recovery, on top of all the other issues she is facing, he can back off – but Belle says she needs his friendship. Angelo drops in and tells Belle that the bullet in Lou’s body does not match the bullet that Irene shot the policeman with. However, the bullets are of the same calibre and the DPP believe there could have been two types of ammunition on board – and that having shot Lou, Irene disposed of the relevant set overboard. They still plan on charging Irene with Lou’s murder.

Xavier hassles Martha about when Hugo is coming back, and Martha snaps at him. Xavier is worried that Hugo and Martha have had a fight, and feels he’s been caught in the middle. Martha admits to Rachel that she’s been hurt by Hugo staying away, as well as being concerned about how Xavier is handling his absence. Xavier start to worry that if Hugo and Martha don’t fix things up he might have to leave Summer Bay – this in turn worries Ruby, who decides to get to the bottom of things. Ruby does some digging with Martha about Hugo and comes to the conclusion that the reason Martha is angry is because she likes Hugo. Xavier struggles to believe her, but she presents a strong case.

Angelo meets Tony while out on a jog and invites him to do some weight training at the gym, offering to spot him. After the workout, they discuss Irene’s case and Tony tells Angelo he is doing a good thing trying to get her off. Alf sees the two of them talking and he is surprised at Tony’s attitude toward Angelo. When Alf comments to Tony that it seemed odd he was talking to Angelo, Tony snaps that he’s just trying to move past things like everyone has been asking him to. Alf tells Martha and Rachel about it, and Martha vehemently criticises Tony being friendly with Angelo. Martha then has a go at Angelo, who points out that, not only did Tony make the first move, but that if Tony is offering forgiveness it’s not his place to knock it back. Tony tells Rachel he’s only trying to move on and Rachel accepts this, telling him he has her complete support on whatever he needs to do to move forward.
