Extended Summary

Roman’s on remand for a raft of serious offences, and it’s becoming clear to his friends that it may be a very long time before they see him free again. Nicole is taking his incarceration very badly. It frustrates her that despite having everyone’s sympathy no one seems to really understand what this means to her. Trey tries hard to be sweet and supportive, Miles and Kirsty have opened up their home to her, but she’s grieving for the loss of a way of life – one that she grew to love. It seems Miles is the only one who can offer her any consolation.

While Jai and Kirsty welcome Nicole into their home, both have no stomach to have to put up with her boyfriend, Trey, hanging around. Trey has bullied Jai in the past, and lied about Kirsty and had her sacked, so their reluctance to engage him is, to a large extent, understandable. The problem is they keep whining and whinging to Miles about the situation so much that he finally snaps. He tells them in no uncertain terms that they are being selfish. Trey seems to really care about Nicole, and is trying hard to help her through tough times, and that’s the overriding consideration here. He also tells them he’s disappointed that no one seems to realise what Miles has lost in Roman going to jail. He’s Miles’ best friend and someone who showed him enormous kindness when he first rolled into the Bay as a homeless man. Kirsty and Jai are chastened by his comments.

Barlett introduces Miles to the school’s new relief teacher, May Stone. As she attempts to familiarise herself with the bay, she meets Angelo in the Diner and they begin to get to know one another. He invites her out for a drink at the Surf club later and she agrees.

Tony apologises to Rachel for his attitude the night before and assures her that the baby is a new beginning for both of them after the pain of losing Jack. Tony has raised a few eyebrows in the Bay, particularly Hugo’s, by seemingly forgiving Angelo for killing Jack, and even extending the hand of friendship. Tony has invited Angelo to go fishing tomorrow and both men seem to be looking forward to it.

However when Martha finds out from Hugo that the fishing trip is the reason Tony can’t help her on the farm tomorrow, she pays Tony a visit. Martha, still filled with grief and hate, rips into Tony. She can’t understand why he’d want to do anything with Angelo. Tony takes her rant in his stride, but is hurt by it. Later in the evening when Tony confirms the fishing trip with Angelo, he finds him in the surf club with May – and Tony doesn’t appear to be happy about the fact that Angelo is enjoying himself. In the early hours, Angelo turns up to leave for the fishing trip – and it is clear that Tony has more than just fishing on his mind.
