Mrs Pappas was Nico's grandmother and had taken him in after his parent's deaths. Alf went to see her to ask about Lynn's disappearance but she spoke very little English and couldn't understand. Nico later revealed to Lynn that he lived with his grandmother and that she forced him to take medication, even though he didn't want to. Lynn told Nico to get his gran to call him by his real name and to stop making him the slave to a bell.
Alf, Frank and Tom then went out to see the Pappas' again and Nico was taken into custody. Floss went around to see Mrs Pappas and she spent the night at the McPhee's after some hoons threw a rock through the kitchen window. It was her first time off the farm in twenty years. The following morning she returned to the farm to find out Nico had been released.
Mrs Pappas was seen again complaining about somebody sneaking around their farm to Alf and Ailsa and a few hours later Nico's cow was found dead having been poisoned.
