Played Nick Parrish
Bruce Roberts takes his role as Summer Bay's resident policeman seriously. To prepare for the part, Bruce actually applied to join New South Wales police force!
"I went through all the physical tests, running, jumping and so on," he explains, "When they told me I'd passed, I had to tell them I'd changed my mind. I didn't dare tell them the real reason."
Bruce spent a year at university before joining the National Institute of Dramatic Art. A few years later, he was offered the part of Nick Parrish in Home and Away, but he had to think about it before joining. "I was worried that I might get into a rut. There's always a threat of being typecast when you appear in soaps for a long while," he says, "but the high profile you get from Home and Away is great."
Bruce admits that he felt a bit weird playing a policeman at first, but he's very pleased at how his part in Home and Away developed. "You see Nick arresting people a bit," he says, "but there's a lot more emphasis on his coming in the door after work."
Bruce's birthday is 4 October.
We're in the process of creating a brand new look Back to the Bay to freshen things up, clear out the clutter and add some features as we go. Apologies for how long it's taking and how much of the site is looking rather peculiar as a result, but rest assured we're making progress and the new look will be complete within the next few weeks.
