Daniel Amalm

Played Jack Wilson

Daniel Edvard Amalm was born in Brisbane on 6 February 1979. His unusual surname is pronounced Or-marm. Daniel's mother is Maltese and his father is Swedish.

Growing up in Brisbane, Daniel was interested in music than acting. He has been learning the guitar for eight years and can play many styles - classical, rock, blues and Latin American. He studied with the Queensland Conservatoriun of Music and was a runner up in the 9th Australian Classical Guitar Competition. Daniel also performed as a soloist with the Queensland Youth Orchestra.

Daniel was one of the regular buskers in the Queen Street Mall and it was while performing there that Daniel was spotted by the manager of jazz great George Benson. He invited him to meet George who was so impressed with Daniel's talent that he gave him a donation towards the classical guitar that he was saving his busking money to buy.

He did some modelling work and won two local modelling competitions. Daniel's introduction to the TV industry happened by chance. A talent agent spotted a Japanese student who was staying with Daniel's family. When they contacted Daniel's father, he suggested that they also audition Daniel.

Soon afterwards, Daniel was on his way to Sydney to play Jack Wilson on Home and Away. It was a pretty big step to be moving away from home at the age of 14, but his mother moved to Sydney to be with him.

On playing Jack, he said that he enjoyed playing him, "I think he is really cool, he is a little dumb but streetwise. He wants to do the right thing but when he gets into trouble, he lies and that gets him into more trouble."

When he has some spare time, Daniel likes to practice his guitar, go to the gym, go rollerblading or see a movie.

While on the soap, he quickly became one of the hottest young teen stars. His step sister Bianca set up a fan club to help him handle the bundles of letters arriving each week.

He was nominated in the Logie Awards in the Most Popular New Talent Category in 1995. Daniel first appeared on Home and Away in BL287, episode 1435, airing on 1 April 1994.

After leaving the soap in 1996, he was working as a musican and released his debut album, Coming At Ya!, which he described it as "dancey and pretty straight up".

He also had a small role in a TV movie, Whipping Boy.

In 1997, he released Honey Dip.
